UPDATED FIRST POST COMPARISON PICS - 1/9/13
Hi everyone! I have been sitting around doing nothing for a very long time. I'm an IT guy who sits at a desk all day and I am a gamer who in the past has sat at a desk all night. About 2 months ago I quit gaming entirely and a little over a week ago I had enough of everything that comes along with being heavy.
Winded after a flight of stairs, unable to do things I used to do (long hikes and such), being told I had to exit the carnival ride because it would not securely latch. The thing that has really pushed me is my back. In sophomore year of highschool, I had a lumbar spinal fusion for scoliosis. 14 screws and 2 rods later my spine was straight and it has NEVER bothered me since. Well, a little over a week ago I figured something out. It was my weight that was straining my back 100% of the time.
I have always been heavy, ever since childhood. It has always been excuse after excuse. Big bones(which I have a large bone structure(shoulders somewhere between 22" and 26" across) but we all know that bones are not an excuse for wearing size 46+ pants. But I love food.....yes, it's true. I love food. But food is not an excuse. I'm too tired! We have all been there I think but I am pushing through that. NO MORE TOO TIRED TO EXERCISE.
I am tired of paying $2 more for shirts.
I am tired of not being able to do fun things.
I am tired of being 23 years old and over 300lbs.
This is my story. In the past, I have failed. Soda is ONE of my biggest vices. I would allow 1 cheat day in any diet...and that would turn into 2.....then 3.......and failure.
Failure is not an option this time. I took before pictures and will eventually post them. I am typically a very confident guy but after having my wife take the photo and looking at myself from an outside perspective, it is humbling.
I was eating once a day, no breakfast, no lunch, and having a dinner of mammoth proportions. A cheesesteak, chicken fingers, a 2 liter of coke. Some nights were a little better but even on meatloaf night, I would find myself 1/2-3/4 of a meatloaf in. So It would go from no calories all day, no activity to probably double if not more of my daily caloric percentage in 1 meal and it was all junk!
No more.
As of 2/15/2012 both my wife and I have cut back to 1500-1800 calorie a day diets, all fresh foods no processed. High protein, low carb, low sugar. I drink almost exclusively water and it has been a bear to go cold turkey. The progress I have seen though feels good. Along with the diet, we are doing anywhere between 30-60 minutes of cardio a day. As silly as I thought it was, the wii fit will make you sweat. Especially when you are in as bad of shape as me. Once spring rolls a round, I will be breaking out my bike and such. No excuses this year.
My stats:
23 years old
5'9"
308.6lbs - 2/15/2012 (day I started diet and exercise)
295.2lbs - 2/23/2012
I'm sure the weight drop will slow but man, I cannot begin to describe how good it felt to ring in @ under 300. Once I drop 50 or so lbs I plan to start a little more rigorous training but I am going to do it. The last time I was under 200lbs was 1 month after that spinal surgery I had talked about. I was 188 or so. I was still chubby but this time, this time will be different.
I apologize for being long winded and I am sorry I have not posted pictures. I think at my 50lb mark I will post before and middle pictures.
Thanks for reading.
