I've stumbled on this forum while randomly browsing around the net for information, and i've decided to join! lol. Somehow being around with people who are trying to lose weight makes me more motivated. :D

I'm 15 (turning 16 in July), and i've been trying to lose weight since october last year. (Sometimes i do wonder if i'm losing muscles instead of fats because even though i'm 3kg lighter than when i first started, my fat percentage increased T_T" ) *i seriously think i need proper guidance*

I'm currently 5'4" and 127.8lbs, with 29.6% of body fat, just in case you were wondering. XD

Hi Ruby

Welcome, I'm new to this site also. i stumbled across this website by by browsing also.

127 lbs seems light for someone your height but I guess it's how you fee that matters.

I am no expert but its important to exercise regularly and eat healthy. To lose at least one pound a week you will need to eat between 1500 to 1800 calories per day . I've read that by cutting 3500 calories per week you should lose one pound.

I'm sure this webiste will have plnty more useful advice and lots of support.

Good luck in being a healthy you.

Hi Ruby,

Your BMI is 22 which isn't bad at all.

How do you figure your body fat percentage? (if you don't mind my asking)

I guess what i'm trying to do now is to cut down on the fat percentage. I've read something about the 1500 cal thing too, i'm trying to adhere to it but it seems that sometimes i overeat. XD

Thanks!

I used this machine that you hold it with your hands right in front of you, and arms stretched.

I'm sorry i can't think of a better way to explain this >_<;

I have no idea what that would be. Is it a machine you own or one at a gym???

I don't own one, and neither it's at the gym. It's a long story how i chanced upon one; i was sort of "dragged" into a 'survey' by some diet-food company, and it happened that they have the machine. XD

Perhaps, speaks more than a thousand words? ;D

Hey Ruby.

It sounds to me like you're putting a lot of faith in this machine and not so much in how you feel or look. :)

I'd say for now, don't worry about what you think your body fat percentage is. At 5'4" and 127 lbs, you're within a healthy range. It's probably likely that you need to get in shape more than you need to lose weight (although as part of getting in shape, you might lose another 5 or so lbs).

Keep in mind that WHAT you eat is as important as how many calories you eat, especially when you're down to those last few pounds and when you want to make sure that your body looks fit and in-shape, vs. just skinny and flabby.

I'd make sure you're eating lots of lean protein, lots of veggies and fruits, and then complex carbs (whole grains, oats, etc.).

What are you doing for exercise? If you have access to a gym, picking up some weight lifting will really help shape your body. If you don't, you can still do body resistance work - things like squats, lunges, stepups, pushups, chinups/pullups, presses, dips, etc.

Hope that helps some and feel free to ask questions if you need to.

I used to use this machine at the gym, though it broke down a while ago. (it's just like any other scale) The last count a few months ago i had of my fat percentage was around 27, so imagine my horror when the reading was 29+. XD

For the exercise part, I mostly run 3 times a week at the gym if i have the time to, about half an hour each time. Sometimes i ride the stationary bike if it's not occupied.

I used to do weight lifting with some of the lighter weights, mostly the 1.2kg and 2kg ones. It might sound a bit irrational and paranoid, but I stopped doing it this Feb for fear that my arms will get too bulky. (well, what can you expect for a fifteen year old XD)

I've got this burning question i've wanted to ask for a long time. Is cheese good? (I've heard somewhere that it helps for growing teens, LOL.) I know it contains loads of protein, but fat as well. I eat them moderately, like a slice in the morning once every few days. I really hope to know if it's okay to eat them.

Thanks in advance! ;D

Ah. You fell into that myth/trap. You can't lift and get "bulky" w/out putting some serious effort and diet into it. First of all, women dont' have enough testosterone in their systems to bulk like that naturally and secondly, even men who bulk up have to put hardcore work into it.

Look, I lift heavy and have been doing so for over a year - and I am not bulky. Far from it. You're not going to get that way either. And ditch the barbie weights - start lifting real weights and doing real exercises - things like squats, lunges, pushups, stepups, etc.

I personally think cheese is great. :) Yes, it's high in fat, so you need to be moderate about how much of it you eat, but then again, I'm a big believer in moderation, rather than giving things up.

I've heard something about the testerone thing, but sometimes i can't help but feel paranoid. XD

But thanks, i'll take your advices seriously. :D
