Hi guys,

Heres my story Not really much to say I have ben Big all my life and this past month or so I have ben trying to do something about it. Im 29 right now and I weigh 361 lbs and im only 5.7. So needless to say I need to do something with my self. Its kinda hard with my life style since I work graveyard, then go home to wach the baby and then get my sleep where I can. So anyways I finally said F this I have 2 kids and I need to make sure im there for them in there future and I want to be able to play sports with them and show them how to do things I had never done with my father. So at my work we have a GYM. So I have ben going in atleast 3 times a week during my lunch break and using the equipment. When I firs started I was using the tredmill for 10 min and only doing about .3 miles and having to stop because my leg cramps up bad.( Right leg has a injury from being ran over ). So I still stuck it out and did it for about 2 weeks and also lifted dumbells and some weight on the cybex machine. Last week and this week I started using the ARC trainer and I like that a lot better I can usually get in .5 miles in 10 minutes and usually use it for atleast 15 minutes where I get 7.5 miles. I have satyed on for 22 minutes one time a reached 1 mile ( I was so proud of my self ) Anyways on the resistence I do 21 and incline I set it at 5 Ben doing this and using the other machines for weights. Sholder press and what not. When I first started I was at 366 lbs and now im at 361 lbs. My question is what would be best for me to do on the equipment we have.

Tread Mill
Arc Trainer Lower Body
Upright bike
Bravo all in one
Lat pull down machine
free weights ( Dumbells )

Take into consideration I only have say 29 minutes a night to do this and im just starting out.

Please any advice would be great. I want to try and loose 100 lbs with in 1 1/2 year. and then go from there and try for atleast another 80. My goal weight is 180 lbs. but my first goal is to get down to 260.

Also my job has me sitting a lot since I am a computer tech.

At work right now and will be hitting the GYM at around 12:30 am anything you guys think I should do more than other. Like I stated above usually go on Arc trainer 15 minutes then I do some weight lifting for about 10 to 15 minutes before I have to clock back in.

Also is it true that I have provably lost more fat than im seeing since im lifting weights also and muscle weighs more than fat and is actually leaner ??

Welcome to the forum, I am pushed for time right now but will come up with some suggestions later tonight.

I Get pretty sore after a couple days and usually at least need a one day break in between, Im working my way to doing it 5 days at the gym at work. This last week I did 4 days and today was just my 3rd day, I feel pretty good and energetic right now so im hoping im not sore tomorrow and can go for another 4 day week. After if tomorrow works out good I will shot for 5 days next week.

Since no one has really chimed in I did my regular routine today and was on the Arc Trainer for 15 min Said according to my weight that I burnt 240 calories. Then I did a bit of weight lifting on the machines about 4 sets of 15 reps on the Lat pull at 100 lbs. Then I did 2 sets of 40 on the other machine pushing out like a punching motion ( not sure what its called ) that was at 70 lbs. Also did a little Cardio Shadow boxing on the mirror for a couple minutes. (This is fun for me But I get tired fast ).

Wish we had a punching bag and speed bag in the gym. I love those things. Let me get some practice in which I have not done in for ever. ( 2nd degree Black Belt in Taekwondo when I was 16 ) Even do speed bag really was not used during my taekwondo days I really like it.

Well done. I would say if you're feeling sore after a workout then maybe slow it down a little so you still feel energetic and fit enough to do a little the following day. I've exercised every single day but one for the last 29 days and on that day I did 5 hours of gardening. The results have been a revelation for me. From getting out of breathe on the stairs I did a full 60 mins (5.4 miles) on the treadmill 2 days ago which I followed with 50 mins on the rowing machine yesterday.

Thanks :)

So far I feel pretty good, I know my arms are going to be sore cause I could feel it already but my legs feel good so I know I can jump in there again tomorrow and get some cardio in at least. Maybe not any lifting but could provably switch it up with some sit ups or something like that.

When I firs started I was using the treadmill but my leg would cramp up bad I think its from old damage, I also did not notice my self working up as much of a sweat as I do on the Arc trainer so that is why I switched.

Well guys Just got finished right now with my work out, Did a power 5 minutes on the Arc trainer only because my upper legs where hurting a bit at the start so I just kicked it into high gear for as long as I could take, machine said I burnt 120 calories. Then I decided to go on the treadmill for a bit since my lower legs felt fine, jump on there with a couple 10 pound dumbels and walked at 2.5 for 5 minutes curling dumbells and also lifting over sholder. Then I put the weights down and walked at a 2.8 for 1 minute then jogged 2 minutes at 3.5 then went back down to 2.5 for 2 minutes then ran again at 3.5 for 2 minutes then a 1 minute cool down. Got a drink of water after all this and then procided to do some Lat pulls at 100lbs did 4 sets of 15. Then I did 4 sets of 10 on the all in one ( Pulling down 120lbs with both arms using rope attachment. That's ended my work out. Feel pretty good I could defenetly feel the burn on my arms again.

Welcome to the forum.

You are doing really well by starting to exercise like this. There will be other people that can give advice on exercise better than me (I tend towards the idea that any exercise is really good - the main thing is to do something)...

I can say that exercise alone will not get you the weight loss that you crave... we have to watch our food too and eat cleanly... You do not have to survive on lettuce leaves or anything - but cutting out junk food / takeaways and eating more fruit and veg and drinking plenty of water really is necessary if you want to lose weight.

I suggest that you read the following thread - it may help you settle in and make friends

Good luck with your project.
