New - Help Wanted!

Today is my first day visiting this site. I see there are many motivating factors out there and I hope they benefit all of you.

I am here in search of motivating partners to help me in my adventure to shed the unwanted pounds. I would love to have some people join me and try my methods for losing weight.

Many of us have tried dieting in so many forms and few of them work.

Last year I found out I had lots of food allergies. This in turn limited drastically what I could eat daily. When I first learned of all the allergies I had it turned my life around. I found myself reading every single label of every food out there. After about a week or two of studying and preparing myself mentally, I started my diet. It was very tough for me due to my lifestyle and taste. I had to actually plan meals a week in advance to get the right combinations.
The first full week was not too bad. I had the normal cravings for soda and the occasional sweet tooth. (for me this was unusual) I really missed all condiments quickly. At the same time I realized I was rather satisfied with the food I was able to eat and was rarely hungry.
I was able to stay on the diet for 5 month. It is safe to say I was about 92% committed with little cheating. During this 5 months I began getting my energy back and lost a total of 29 pounds.
The downfall was the fact that I would give in here and there and eventually became lazy. I no longer prepared my food and soon I found myself eating out again and again and again. The weight slowly came back and my energy quickly vanished. Not to mention the sinus issues I experience from various foods. I mean, I could not eat beef, dairy, eggs, Corn, Brewers yeast, Coconut, caffeine, tea, coffee, sodas, and wheat. I was limited regarding Chicken, pork, and oranges. I was also not allowed to eat the same thing daily because I had to have 3 days in between. They say you become allergic to what you frequent when you are an allergic person.

So - with that being said I have decided to start my diet again and commit myself to it. I am also encouraging any of you who want to join me in this task to get on board.

For me, I felt it was easier to create my own web page to post and track my daily/weekly stats, food and exercise routine for the world to see.

Please take a look and tell me what you think. I would love to have others to do the same thing I do and share your results with me.

I welcome all feedback. I am obviously not a web designer as this is only my second attempt at a web page. It is a work in progress but I hope it helps me stay motivated to stick with this diet and rid myself of all the junk I eat every day.

welcome to the forum. :D I took a look over your website and I was just curious if this "diet" you're on was created by a dietician or physician wrt your allergies?

I mean, I could not eat beef, dairy, eggs, Corn, Brewers yeast, Coconut, caffeine, tea, coffee, sodas, and wheat. I was limited regarding Chicken, pork, and oranges. I was also not allowed to eat the same thing daily because I had to have 3 days in between. They say you become allergic to what you frequent when you are an allergic person.
Wow. You listed everything and anything that I eat almost daily. haha! So.... what do you eat? (You listed beef, chicken, wheat and the "foods" section.) Also, I read over "the plan" in your website and I'll say, that's pretty darn restrictive. No sweets? No condiments? No alcohol.... ? MmMMm beerrrr.... haha I'm sorry I'm asking so many questions and by no means am I judging you. I'm just really curious about this program is all.

Welcome to the community. I've never seen someone with so many allergies.... I couldn't survive I don't think, if I couldn't eat those foods, lol. Guess you've got to do what you've got to do though.

Best of luck with your diet. Why do you think you fell off the wagon originally? Usually, when the first attempt doesn't work, it's wise to change up your approach the second time around.

How were your allergies diagnosed? RAST / skin prick test / IgG testing / elimination diet + challlenge? Are you sensitive to small amounts of corn? Corn is a bad one to have to completely eliminate, because it's in everything, including iodized table salt. I know some people who can't eat traditionally-produced beef, chicken, or eggs because the animals are corn-fed and they react to the traces of corn proteins. If that's the case for you, grass-fed / free-range meat might be a viable option.

Your food list is also missing tons of things you aren't allergic to, and includes a huge number of allergens, so I'm not sure what to make of that. Wheat-free / dairy-free isn't significantly harder than either one alone, even if you like bready things. Also eliminating eggs *is* harder, and the EnerG egg replacer contains corn (the citric acid is corn-derived), so wouldn't work for you.

You've still got a good list, though - soy, peanuts, tree nuts, turkey, lamb, fish, rice, quinoa, tapica, potato, arrowroot, and most fruits and vegetables. If you like baked goods, xanthan gum is supposed to test out corn-free, even though it's corn derived, so once you know you're not reacting, you could challenge that. I can do a gluten-free flour mix that doesn't have any of your allergens in it that bakes cookies completely indistinguishable from wheat flour cookies, and the xanthan gum improves it.
 
The foods I listed were the foods I am allowed to eat and LIKE.

I was provided a list of foods I was unable to eat and then I had to do some research on what I can and Cannot eat. For the list I can eat, I can only have them every three days. Weird.

Once I started this diet originally it was truly difficult because nearly everything I ate was on the "NO" list.

When cooking I soon realized that I do not have to fry my chicken or pork chops. I also do not have to use oil or cover them in a sauce. Along with fish I use Lemon and Lime and Orange (occasionally) to add a little zest to the food. I never really cared for fish but after ridding myself of the junk, it was as if my taste buds became more keen and/or lenient.

The eating was actually better than what I was accustomed to in regards to taste and quality. The problem was the preparation and planning of ALL of my meals. This also meant no dining out unless they had a cook/chef willing to prepare your Salmon without oil etc..... I truly put a damper on my lifestyle as I knew it. Really, dining out with friends WAS my life!

Falling off the wagon was easy. I started traveling with the company and slacking off.

Even when I am not on the diet I eat beef once every two weeks. It makes my sinuses close up and is very uncomfortable. Then again, most foods do the same thing!

Corn is one of the most devastating items for me. The odd thing is that Fresh natural corn has minimal impact where something with Corn Syrup closes the sinuses instantly.

They conducted blood and skin test on me. As I went through the initial phases of the diet the Dr. had me try small amounts of certain items to test the reaction. Since I was pretty clean when I tried things the reactions/results were noticeable immediately. I went for 8 years not breathing properly through my nose and then I was breathing and sleeping so much better. Then I eat a 6oz steak with NO seasoning or sauce and "BAMM" the nose shuts off and OTHER things eventually happen as well.

As far as wheat and dairy - The wheat I can have in SMALL portions every three days - Rice - Pasta - Bread - etc....... The dairy has a very quick affect/effect on me so I stay away from it when I can whether I am on the diet or not.

I am sure you have gone for extended periods of time eating Tuna, Chicken and Brown rice..........right? I did that when I was in the Military and working out regularly. It was much worse than this diet and extremely boring. I actually enjoy the foods more than I ever thought I would. The problem is planning and preparing day in and day out regardless of where I go.

I hope this new approach works better for me. I have never tried using the input, feedback, motivation and such of others to help me through anything in my life. So, I thought this would be fun to interact and see some varying opinions or options.

Update

Well, it has been nearly two weeks now and it has been really challenging. The weekend camping trip with the guys did not help much. This consisted of eating good and drinking plenty.
Then on Sunday I went to see the Family for our Thanksgiving meal. I ate some junk and really ate lots of Roasted Turkey. The biggest downfall was the 1/2 slice of lemon pie.
It has been hard to stay on track with my schedule lately but I feel I can control it much better than I have. The positive is that I have reduced the amount of food at each meal whether it was part of the diet or not and the snacking is drastically reduced.
I have not done near the exercising I hope too but it is a work in progress.

I have managed to drop 3.6 pounds and I am not sure why. I say this because I feel as if I am still eating too much junk but the reduction must be working. Then again, my weight can fluctuate 2-5 pounds on any given day.

What does this mean? More commitment on my part and get to the gym!
