Hi everybody,

I come to your forum in need of supportive friends, insightful insight, and to do this journey with friends.

I'm a fat, lazy, 21 year old girl, and I have been overweight pretty much for the last 10 years.

Last year I lost all the weight I needed to lose through Bulimia :( but when I realized when I was doing to my body, I stopped and unfortunately all the weight come back on.

I need motivation to exercise and discipline to stick to a diet. Both I don't have. I don't have a diet plan either.

I want to lose 30 pounds (14kg) in the space of 4 months. I need your help guys and girls. I promise I will do the best I can to help you too.

My reasons for losing weight are to look sexier and to feel more energized.

Thank you all in advance.

xxoo

Good luck with your weight loss.
Can I ask, what was your reason for choosing 4 months? do you have a special even or anything?

Hi, and welcome :)

The first thing you need is a plan about how you're going to lose weight. I seriously recommend, whatever plan you choose, having an awareness of your daily calorie intake and what you need to eat to lose weight. In order to do this, you need to calculate your BMR and maintenance calorie allowance (you should be able to do this by searching for "bmr calculator" in a search engine. I used one that incorporated my activity level into the calculation, others use ones where you deduct calories burnt from your total), and then reduce from that number in order to lose weight (the numbers I work on are reduce by 500 to lose a pound, 1000 to lose two pounds- nearly a kilo. Others work on different figures, like reducing by 30%. You should never reduce below 1200 except with professional advice and preferably strict medical supervision). As you're in Australia be aware that there are 4.2 kilojoules in a calorie, so you'll need to convert most calorie equations accordingly.

I recommend having an awareness of your intake because the science of weightloss is eating less calories (to a point) than you burn. (I say to a point because if your body thinks it's starving then it'll hang on to all of the fat to stop itself from dying) I advocate making lower calorie choices and making sure you're satisfied- both full and pleased about the food you're eating. Being bored with your food or being hungry all the time can lead you astray on a diet. You also can't always control what you're eating and the best choice to make when you're out is a lower calorie one.

I'm not that great with the exercise myself, but the more you exercise, the more you're allowed to eat (to a point- for me the difference between if I was completely sedentary and moderately active is 400 calories, for other people it may vary).

It's possible to lose that amount of weight in four months, but you'll find it very difficult. Safe weight loss is between a pound and a kilogram and a week, and most people don't experience consistent weight loss. I second Gemma's question- why do you have to lose the weight by that time? Isn't it better to make the change sustainable, even if you don't quite get there in time for your deadline? Isn't health the most important thing?

I'd recommend looking at the stickied posts, which contain a lot of invaluable information, searching through the forums for information you're interested in, and looking at the food diaries (Weight Loss Diary - Weight Loss Forum) for an idea of how other people are going about their weight loss. (You're also welcome to look at mine, linked in my signature, for an idea of what calorie counting might look like. I promise you I don't go hungry and I'm not bored with my food) I'd also advocate setting up your own if you want motivation and accountability.

You have the same problem that I needed to fix and that is to find your personal motivation for losing weight. One of the things that was very effective for me was to use visual aids.

It could be pictures of your favorite actor or actress. Place it in a prominent area where you will be able to view it frequently. This way it will stay on your subconscious mind and help you get to your targeted weight.

Without motivation from the start it's nearly impossible to reach your goals...take your time with this one. So take a couple of days and write down as many things as possible that you could use for motivation...just thank me for it later.

This will make a big difference!

You must be careful not to slip into bad habits again--Does your doctor know about your bulimia? The psychological issues that come with being over-weight and then losing that weight are often overlooked. You must have a good outlook and be sure of your choices in your mind before you begin your journey! I'd also recommend starting a diary on here to log your food and talk about weight loss (or personal!) issues with the rest of us that update our diaries :D

I am so glad to hear that you've beaten the bulimia. I wont go on about that then.

The other thing to put in your diary when you start is your height and current weight.

In my link below i diaries my food that i eat every day. I don't eat a lot of meat but there should be some ideas there that will help you.

Like Amy its important to eat enough food to avoid going hungry - this leads to binging. And its important to enjoy your food. Together this means its worth putting a bit of effort into your meals so that they taste good. Cause you know, you want to set yourself up with an eating habit that's going to last you for the rest of your life.

My choices has been pretty radical. I"ve quit all added sugar foods - because i find it hard to stop once i start. If you think you've got more self-control, then be prepared to get good at exercising it by keeping these foods in yoru diet but only for the odd occasion.

I find it a lot easier to go without the tempting foods and i find this helps me make my daily food so much more enjoyable because that's where my emphasis is. You'll see what i mean when you read my diary.

Though i might add, i know some people eat in response to emotional crises. I do too but i've got my emotional life a lot more stable now. It only took half a lifetime but there you are, i did it. You are still pretty young so you will have lots of ups and downs emotionally, most likely. Your diet will have to be able to cope with all that.

So the main thing i've realised iwth regard to that is don't lose heart if you slip for a day or a week or whatever. Renew your commitment to your goal. This works for all our goals. If you keep sight of your goals, you will achieve them. Get lazy and careless and you've got no chance.

Good luck.

I'm an aussie too. Welcome aboard.
