New guy here

Hey everyone; I'll just start off with some basic info about me -

I just turned 18 and started my freshman year at college. I've moved around many times, and my favorite foods range from oatmeal to biryani. My parents are from Columbia and Argentina, but my roots can be traced back to Portugal (my mom's side) and Saudi Arabia (my dad's side) o_O

So what brings me here?

I played a few sports growing up, but upon entering around 7th grad-ish I started to really let go. I started eating very bad things, especially fast food. To top this off, I pretty much became inactive and lost any physical talent I once had.

I was pretty much in a hole throughout 7-10th grade. I'm not sure what happened, but I just woke up one morning and made a "few" life changes right then and there. I just cut all the bad stuff like soda and fried foods, and put in grilled meats and veggies. I started going to the gym and started doing 10 min. of cardio every day. Eventually, I would increase the time and the speed/resistance until I practically became pretty hardcore.

I'm really glad I did this. I remember I was about 230 lbs. on my 16th annual doctor checkup. Being 5 foot 8 at the time, that was really bad - both for my health and for my self esteem. The next year, his jaw dropped when I weighed in at 180 lbs.

Now I'm about 150 lbs. Some could call it excessive but I'm happy at where I am now. I always eat healthy and keep up a good exercise regimen. I used to be very sorry for myself, and thought I was cursed. But with hard work and willpower I beat everyone's expectations. I feel great, and I've never been happier in my life. I'll be sure to post some pics on that before/after thread when I get a chance.

I'm currently training to be on my college's swim team. It's hard work since it's been many years since I last swam, but I'm going to do my best to make it for the next season.

I'm also trying to build some lean muscle, so I thought coming here would be a good idea. Sorry for the long post, I'll contribute as much as I can.

cheers

Way to go!

I think you have done an amazing job! The fact that you took this step towards fitness makes you a winner all the way :). Keep up with whatever you are doing. Make sure you couple your cardio with weights though. Working out rocks!
