Hello everyone,

I'm brand new! My name is Charlotte and I live in Canterbury in England, where I am currently studying the last year of a history degree. I have suffered - as many of you probably have - from obesity for most of my life. I am 22 and constant dieting in my early teens caused me to suffer from an eating disorder until i was about 19. I am now perfectly healthy (mentally) but I would still like to feel healthy physically. I have already lost a bit of weight through attending 'weight-watchers' with my mum, but as you can imagine these sort of classes are fairly expensive and being a poor student, I can no-longer afford the weekly fee. However, attending these classes has helped me to realise that group support and being in contact with similar minded people, or those who are in a similar situation can provide a support system which can be key to an individual successfully losing weight! So here I am!

I have met a plateau and am no-longer losing any weight and I think that this is because I find it difficult doing it alone - i am proud of my achievements, yet I am becoming very frustrated, I am hoping to make some new friends and would love to hear other peoples stories along their weight loss journey.
(i notice that a majority of you are American and that you measure your weight in pounds, being British I work in stones, I am going to put my weight in stones and then in pounds in brackets - if this confuses anyone tell me)
So my starting weight was 15 stones (or 210 pounds), I have reached 12 stones (168 pounds) - which has me stuck!!

good for you for how far you've come...

What's your calorie count or point count to get you to this point? what's your exercise been like?

There's a few threads around on how to break thru plateaus but the best advice is to eat at maintenance calories for a while - then gradually cut back on calories. and the weight will start to drop again

Canterbury is one of the most beautiful towns in England... I loved the Cathedral and the quaint little inns that were there... really lovely place...

I think that you have hit the nail on the head for why I am plateauing - when I was at weight watchers we all worked on a points system and different foods had different points and we had to stick to around 20 points a day - and I have never been able to work out how many calories each point was worth - it was very confusing. Basically, I have been eating when my stomach tells me to and made sure that I have lots of fruit and veg and keep to around 20g of saturated fat a day.
I live 2 miles from uni and I walked to and from it on a daily basis - so I walk around 20 miles a week. But I dnt get any other forms of exercise. Thank you for the advice, I am working my way around the forum slowly lol.

Have you visited Canterbury? You're right I love living here - it has a wonderful atmosphere, I htink it is great that they have preserved all the old buildings. The Cathedral is also amazing.

Charlotte.

A few years ago - I was outside of london for a few weeks/months on a business trip and weekends I'd just take off and get on a train and go somewhere -Canterbury was so beautiful - I stayed at the Chaucer Inn - a really cute hotel - that had no elevators :) what really amazed me the most though -how quaint the village is.. but there was still a Gap, and fast food restaurants -just seemed out of place :D

Hi Charlotte

There are some other English people here. Why dont you visit their diaries and meet them. Names that I can think of off-hand:
Me
Angel
Tabitha
Rah (Sarah)
I like my user name (Becky)

Both Angel and Becky are a similar age to yourself.

You could also set up your own diary. That way you could meet lots of people and discovering what they do may help to keep you motivated. You in turn could maybe motivate them.

Good luck with your continued weight loss. You have done very well so far.

Take care
Best wishes
Margaret
