New Girl ready for a Slimmer New Year

My name is Jessa. I plan to take charge of my weight at the New Year mark and hope for some noticible results by March when I am taking a ten day trip to Mexico.

I am 31 yrs old. I am a short girl (5'2") with a medium build. I am currently around 162 lbs. I have always been slightly overweight. I have lost major weight 2 times before. The first time was 6 years ago on weight watcher & a circuit training gym (I lost 30 lbs). The second time was a year and a half ago using fitday (counting calories) and body sculpt classes at the gym. That time I lost 40 lbs. Both times I felt sooo good but its only lasted about 3 months each time. I guess I felt all cute and skinny and just let it all slip (rewarding myself waaay too much with pizza and beer!) That last time I even wore a bikini (first time!!!) I'd really like to do that for my trip to Mexico.

Anyway, the plan is to start using my gym membership. Drink 8-10 gl water a day. Increase veggies, proteins and whole grains. Smaller portions. Track calories (I'll probably use Fitday). Increase general activity (less loafing in front of tv).

I'd love advice and support.

Smiles,

Jessa

Your plan sounds good and reasonable. What is your goal weight by Mexico? Beginning or end of March (8 or 12 weeks?) I'd say you could easily do 10 pounds by beginning of March. I doubt you could do 30-40 like before in 2 months.

Mid-March. So ten weeks. My goal is 20 lbs. Thats 2 lbs a week. Not too bad. Beyond that my goal for July is ten more lbs.

Twenty lbs will bring me to 143 lbs which is fine as long as I focus on toning a too. Honestly looking more fit and less flabby is the best goal for me at this point. I know muscle weighs more than fat so I don't want to get too discouraged if I don't lose 20 lbs... If I look reasonably good in a bathing suit I'll be happy! (I'd like to look steller by summer though!!)

2 pounds a week is ok. I have never been able to sustain it, but I know others have. Best of luck to you on your bathing suit body!!

I am wondering why you gave me negative rep? Was something I said misunderstood/percieved as rude or unhelpful?

Good luck on your once again journey to your weight lost goal. Maintaining your habits usually keep your weight loss in check. Trying new sports and activities helps a ton. Find a sport you love to do and it wouldn't be "exercising" but a time to challenge yourself and have fun.

P.S. Why wait till the New Year to start your weight loss aim? A suggestion, I would start today. Make that commitment. A high percentage of resolutions are never reached. Good luck to your sexy new you!! :O)

so sorry!

oh no!! I didn't mean to do that--- I thought it was a goood thing.. Is there any way I can change it. I've never used a forum before. Your advice was helpful, definitly. About the 2 lbs... I guess its more about the average. I usually lose alot the first week. and then have some good and some bad weeks.

Thanks for the support. I guess the reason I was waiting was-- I didn't want any drinking on New Years to throw me off. But now I'm leaning torwards being a designated driver. Losing weight is more important than partying. I know from experience that nothing throws me off course more than a hang over. I probably will start tommorrow.

You know what's best for you. Again, good luck and remember to come back to the forum to get that extra push you need. Take care.

Cute dress. There is no way that I know of to take it back. In the futre, click the scale, then the "Approve of this post" circle and write a message in the box. It's pretty easy, but I did not even know it exsisted for months after I joined!

Remember, you can not physically "tone" a muscle through any external application. In other words, things like doing high repetition sit ups will NOT "tone" your abs, for example.

Also, muscle is more "dense" than fat, not necessarily heavier. A pound of muscle is equal to a pound of fat. However, because of muscle being more dense, so to speak, it takes less to equal more. ;)

I think you are right on with what I underlined!

I'm going to start taking this body sculpt class I used to take. It hits all the major areas... lots of squats and light weights with lots of reps. Last time I lost alot of weight it really helped alot in addition to my normal cardio. I usually do it 3 x a week. Yeah my aditude is pretty much I really just want to look good.. I don't need to get too hung up on the scale.. though it is a helpful guide.

Hi Jessa,
I think you'll do great! Just keep in mind to take it in small steps. I'm new here too.

For myself I'm using Fitday also (see my signature for my journal) and running or elliptical 5x per week and a class at my gym called at least 2x per week.

Tuesday is my first day back at the gym. Good luck to you!
