Hi all.
I just turned 40 and its time to drop some weight (again).

212 - Apr 26 (started weight loss program):
208 - May 9
??? - May 16 (weigh in every Fri AM)

Goal 1: 199
Goal 2: 189
Fitness Goal: run 5km in 30 min.
Strength goals:
Bench 205 x 7 reps (Current: 165x6)
Squat 225 x 5 (Current: unknown)

I'm the classic yo-yo dieter. This time I'd really like to keep it off. Diet is mostly just eating smarter - no fried foods, no junk foods, a lot less simple carbs. I haven't worked up to running yet - just doing elliptical & bike. On Sat I hurt my back doing deadlifts so once its better I'll start hitting the tradmill.

Nice to be here!

How did you hurt your back doing deadlifts? In the exercise forum, there are videos that will help you out wiith a strength training workout to make sure your form is proper and avoid injury...

Do you know why you're a yo-yo dieter? What's going to be different this time? Are you seeing this as a lifestyle change where you are eating your favorite foods and not depriving yourself?

Welcome and happy belated birthday...

Thanks for the welcome.

I'm actually quite experienced with weight-lifting and have done deads a lot in the past. This time I just went too heavy, too fast which resulted in poor form and a tweaked back.

I am a yoyo dieter for a few reasons but primarily because, as my name suggests, I really hate cardio. I know the solution would be to get involved in a 'real' aerobic sport but finding opportunities where both my interests and availability coincide is difficult, and gets more difficult as you get older.

The other reason I yoyo is that I don't treat it as a lifestyle change. I drop the weight so I'm thin. Because I'm thin I allow myself to resume bad eating habits and also reduce excersize. Then, of course, the fat starts piling on again and the cycle continues.

THIS time I want to take up more aerobic activities once I am more fit so that I have non-gym calorie burner interests. I also intend to continue to watch what I eat but allow myself a cheat day so I don't feel totally deprived.
