New Beginings

Hey all! I just signed on with this forum. A little back story on myself, I'm 23 and currently have goals to lose about 80 pounds, I am starting collage with dreams of being an equine vet. There are a lot of other, much smaller changes going on in my life right now too. I lost my mom to suicide almost 3 months ago, and it has pushed me to start trying to figure out who I really am and what I really want with my life instead of hiding myself and being afraid of everything the way I used to. My current diet plan includes an 1800 calorie diet with daily gym visits, and increasing my water intake while dramatically decreasing my intake of soda and coffee. I am a trail guide, so I spend hours a day on a horse aside from the other daily chores, I own 3 horses of my own, 3 dogs that will start to get daily walks along with the daily game of fetch that we already do. I am also starting professional riding lessons twice a week. Does anyone have any other tips/tricks to help someone who has tried and failed to get and keep weight off? Any specific exercises or styles of exercise that they would recommend to build muscle, increase flexibility, dexterity, specific muscle control, and balance? I am also going to start daily runs, and since I haven't run in several years, I'm starting from the bottom, with goals of eventually running a 5k, any tips on training for that? Anything helps, I won't give up this time, and would love to have a community or support system to lean on.

Wow. Ok. Not sure where to start, but I wouldn't even recommend much at this point. You are getting into a good routine and eating a safe amount of calories for weight loss. If you hit the gym, focus on large muscle groups. Squats, deadlifts, bench, etc.

Thanks! Its good to hear someone elses opinion on the plan.

I agree with allcdnboy for sure. You seem to have a plan in place. You will notice that consistency will take you farther than complicated plans. Stick to the basics and nail down the food and water intake and you will be losing the weight you want in no time. My grandfather works with horses so I am aware of how much time and effort they take and the love you have for them. Think about it this way, you wouldn't give your horses soda to drink would you? =)

Hope to hear more of your story!
