I live in South Dakota, yes we have computers and internet here.
I have known for some time I have been piling on weight, but did not realize how much until I had my doctors appointment and I bawled when the scale read 184.
OUCH.
I want to lose it and I want it gone NOW. Don't we all.
Would love to hear what others are doing, as far as "programs".
Here is my problem. I have a nasty case of fibromyalgia and other autoimmune problems which make it impossible for me to do any vigorous excercise. I do try and walk my dog when I can, but that's about it.
I need to lose about 40-45 lbs. I can't believe it has gotten this bad.
I am a food addict. I eat out of boredom, or sadness.
Anyhow nice to meet you all and I hope to be accountable to someone for my actions, maybe this will help me stay on track. This time.

Sharon

Howdy, welcome! I've been here for about 3 days myself.

I've read alot of the sticky notes, and alot of the threads, and the general consensus seems to be that no matter what program you follow, what you eat, or how much you work out, it boils down to this:

You need to burn more calories than you eat to lose weight.

There are debates on working out in the morning, eating more small meals instead of fewer larger ones, how sometimes when the light from Jupiter reflects off of the moon in just the right way it affects appetite... but I don't think anyone will argue with the simple logic that burning more than you consume leads to weight loss.

Personally I'm forgoing all of the mystics of it all and eating less :) The trick for me is finding higher volume foods with less calories to eat when my stomach wont quit roaring at me. So far: Collard greens are good n heavy :)

Hi Sharon

Apart from your health problems we are very similar, my weight had crept on over the years and was in tears when I realised just how bad it had got - that was 10 months ago and have lost weight calorie counting and going to the gym.

I agree with JMike you need to burn more calories than you consume - sounds easy doesn't it, but it isn't - I know. Can you not do a few weights at home? That combined with walking your dog which gives you some CV work might help. I wish you luck.

Hi Sharon welcome to the forum!!

The only think that works for me personally is Calorie counting and Cardio exercise and some weight training on the side:ack2:

Good luck on your weight loss journey!!

Hello

I can really understand where you are at right now. Before my fibromyalgia flared up, I had taken off close to 50 pounds. Now due to the excessive pain, working out is difficult.

I like you eat out of boredom as well as due to emotional or physical stress. I have been really changed my eating habits in the last month but instead of taking the weight off, I seem to be gaining. This of course frustrates me and makes me want to give up.

In addition to drastically revamping my diet, I have once again joined the land of the exercising. I was told that aqua exercise is best for people with fibro - I found it hurt just as much as if I worked out like I am used to doing. So now, I'm working on building up my stamina again and just dealing with the excruciating pain.

If anyone out there has any ideas of how to kick start my metabolism or some tasty low-cal/fat recipes, please feel free to share!

Thanks,
Stormy
