I have gained and lost weight numerous times by working out and changing my diet a bit. I was a size 22 and was just getting into a size 12 and haven't worked out for almost 2 months now and have started with my old pattern of eating crappy food. I can feel the weight creeping on. I don't know why I continue in this pattern. Its mind blowing. I work so dam hard getting the weight off just to gain it back. I want off of this self defeating cycle. I want to gain the confidence to be fit. One of my dreams is to be a personal trainer.Anybody struggling with these issues and have any ideas how to stop this cycle. I also quit smoking 16 days ago.

Hey Tracie,
Welcome to the WLF!

First a big time CONGRATULATIONS for quitting the smoking! GOOD for you :D

As for the weight ups and downs - what have you done in the past that's worked for you to lose weight? Is it a sustainable eating pattern? Something you can do the rest of your life? If not, then once you stop dieting, it's not surprising if the weight comes back.

Have you checked out or ? They are both good resources for tracking calories, nutrition and fitness.

Howdy,Tracie Welcome and goodluck to ya.I went from a size22
to a now 13/14 and can't wait to see a 12 I would pass out from
the excitemnet lol! Congrats on getting down to a 12 thats hard work
right there and quit smoking so you know your a strong person and
can do it! Have a great Thursday,Tammy:)

16 days. You're not quite out of the woods yet. Focus on maintaining the smoking cessation. Keep the weight loss in the back of your mind, but it would be so easy for you to start smoking again, using the weight issue as a crutch. Revisit weight loss in earnest again after you've made it at least a month and a half without cigarettes.

Yay for you!

Hi.
Hooray for determining to get healthy!!
The best advice I've got from this forum is to start with small goals. Like drinking 64 oz. of water every day.
I stopped putting butter or margerine on my toast or sandwiches. 50-100 calories less right there.
YOU CAN DO IT!!:)

Well first of congrats on getting into a size 12...I dream of the day I will be a 12 again...it's prob. been 5-6 years since I was a 12. Congrats on quiting smoking too! Losing weight and quiting smoking at the same time is a tough job. But you WILL do it. Not just CAN you WILL!

I know a few people who quit smoking and when they had the desire for a smoke they went on a walk or did some sittups. Maybe you can try it. And if you can get back into the habbit of healthy eating things will start looking up.:) Don't get discouraged. Everyone has a set back once in a while. Just remember that you CAN and you WILL defeat your weight problem and your smoking!

Good Luck!

Jenny

Congrats on the weight loss. I am new to the forum and have many, many, many, pounds to lose. I am looking forward to the "cyber" support. Keep your chin up!!! You can do it!!!!

thanks everyone for your encouragement today, I have since gone to the gym and walked this morning. I have been getting very honest with myself so I can understand this pattern of mine and i know i need to be accountable for the behaviour I have that support this self defeating pattern. I need to start moving whether I feel like it or not. If I gain my weight back I am not going to want to stay a non smoker. I am going to promise myself to do some form of excercise everyday.
