New and SO lost

Hi all…I’m happy to find this place. I’m in some pretty bad need of help. I have battled my weight all my life, but managed to keep it down enough. I have always fronted a rock band since the age of about 13. I started “really” gaining when I started having children. I would lose it all but about 5 or 10 pounds. In my late 40’s I remarried (fourth time) and quit the music scene. I gained about 20 pounds. Went back to singing in the clubs and lost a bit…quit for good about a year and a half ago and now have gained about 20 pounds. I feel very unhealthy, my knees crack, my back hurts. It’s like I go all day at work doing well and eating healthy and then when I get home, once I eat, I can’t stop eating. I am at my ropes end. Hubby doesn’t say anything, though I know it’s bothering him, he would never say anything to hurt my feelings. I need to do something but WHAT!? It seems everything I do fails. I'm depressed and miserable. At my 55 the 20th, Ijust want to be healthy. I don't care about aging or losing my looks...I feel I have earned every line! I have recently cut my hair after being long my entire life because it is thinning so badly....it happens when you grow older. But I have custody of my Granddaughter and I want to ne able to raise her.

Don't Give Up

I'm a new member and I'm getting a lot of support from this forum. I hope you're able to receive the same. I love chatting with others about weight loss and nutrition lifestyle changes. I don't believe in D.I.E.Ts because you’re Doing It Every Time. It gets harder to lose weight when we get older. I lost 60 pounds after my pregnancy. It was difficult but I kept plugging away at it. I got a journal and took the approach of documenting my thoughts and feelings because a lot of times my feeling stimulated my appetite. It was a vicious cycle that I was tired of. It’s seems you’re tired also BUT you’re still standing. Remember you’re 55 on the 20th, and you’re still STANDING. Take advantage of these moments. You have a family that most would love to have; children, grandchildren, and a loving husband. They’re cheering for you. But it’s up to you to make the change. I recommend taking small steps maybe just changing your portion size and eat half of what you usually eat and mix it with exercise which should result in change. Have you looked into a gym in your neighborhood? Maybe you’re not interested; the gym isn’t for everyone. You have to find your passion. I enjoy running so I took my exercise routine outdoors. I run all throughout the year unless the weather is bad then I resort to the treadmill. It’s boring but it’s something better than nothing. I recommend finding your passion and what works for you. The goal is to get those feet moving. Whatever you decide just be consistent. Good Luck.

I think Alex is right about the support here. I just came here to browse but after seeing how nice and supportive everyone is I decided to join and stick around.

Hey Cyber! Welcome to the board.

I'm could type out a bunch of stuff or copy a bunch of stuff from my journal, but I think it'd be faster if I just gave you the link. :)

http://weight-loss.fitness.com/weight-loss-diary/30962-just-little-bit-more-go.html

If you read the first post in my journal, you'll see that I've been where you are - at the "I've tried every diet and nothing works and I don't know where to go from here" stage. :)

What I do and how I lost weight is in there ... and I hope it helps you. Feel free to ask questions if you want.

And beyond that, I encourage you to read the sticky posts in teh various boards to learn more about nutrition, exercise, and how to really work to make a lifetime plan to be healthy - not just to diet to lose weight. :)
