Need Your Help - Fitness.com redesign

They apparently only look at the threads if I email them the link... What seems blatantly obvious to us clearly isnt to everyone!!! Maybe a clueless newbie needs to be involved in any redesign!

yea, maybe your right!?

Well this too is from my forum and I don't mind if it's used here as well. Actually come to think of it it won't work perfectly since WLF doesn't allow images to be embeded which is what I did to highlight how to quote but you get the point.

GENERAL LAYOUT

If you’re new to the vbulletin platform or to forums in general, we thought we’d give you some general advice to use when navigating your way through the community. It can be a bit overwhelming as these communities have more links on a screen than you can shake a stick at!

More detailed information can be found in the FAQ section which can be found in the top, blue row of links below the Body-Improvements logo.

For the most part there are two levels of forums. There’s the parent level then there’s the sub-forum level. From the main page, which you can get to at any point in time by simply clicking on the company logo, you will notice that there are 4 parent forums. They are:

• General Stuff
• Training
• Nutrition
• Community

Each of these has its own associated list of sub-forums. For instance, if you scroll down to the Training Forum you will notice that it contains 4 sub-forums; Resistance Training, Cardiovascular Training, Flexibility Training, and Training Videos.

POSTING/STARTING YOUR OWN THREAD WITHIN A SUB-FORUM

To start your own thread, simply go to the sub-forum of your choice. Once there, at the top left you will see a button for “New Thread.” Click it and you’ll be able to give your post a title and body. Once you’ve typed everything, click on the “Submit New Thread” button at the bottom of the post box.

POSTING WITHIN AN ESTABLISHED THREAD

You can also participate in an already active thread that resides in any of the sub-forums. If you find a thread you’re interested in adding to, simply scroll to the bottom of it and hit the “Add Reply” button. Your post will fall in line based on chronological order.

Since some threads are very active, it’s a good idea to quote the post you are specifically replying to within the thread. To do this, find the post you are directly replying to and hit the “Quote” button at the bottom of it. When you do this you will see your own post box with the referenced post in quotes.

UNDERSTANDING THE QUOTE FEATURE

A lot of people have trouble understanding the quote feature. If you wish to quote multiple parts of another member’s post, line by line, simply hitting the “Quote” button isn’t enough. As an example, suppose another member posts the following in a thread:

“In order to lose weight you must be in a caloric deficit. That said, macronutrients also play a vital role in the process of losing fat.”

You read this and want to ask some questions. You hit the “Quote” button at the bottom of the above post. What will show up is your own post box with the above post in quotes as shown here:

quote1-1.jpg

You can see that there is an open and close quote box.

The problem is we want to get specific and reply to each sentence individually within the same post. All you have to do is separate each sentence and make sure that each has its own open and close quote box.

In this case it would look like this:

quote2.jpg

As you can see we simply put open and close quote boxes around each section of the post we wanted to reply to individually.

READING THE FORUM

When viewing the forum, some people choose to visit only the forums they’re interested in participating in or reading. This is certainly fine. Simply go to the specific sub-forum you are interested in and start reading. The threads will be ordered from newest to oldest. Newest being the thread with the most recent posting activity and the oldest being the thread with the oldest posting activity.

Others don’t like missing any threads started across all the forums. If this is the case, simply click on the “New Posts” link found in the top, blue row of links. This will display all of the threads that have been active since your last visit to the forum regardless of what sub-forum it is from. You can also click on “Quick Links” and under that “Today’s Posts” if you want to view the threads that have been active in the last 24 hours.

STICKY THREADS

The various sub-forums have threads of importance that are ‘stuck’ so that they never leave the top of each forum. We ask that you spend the time to read them as they are full of useful information.

THIS SHOULD BE ENOUGH TO GET YOU STARTED. IF YOU HAVE SPECIFIC QUESTIONS SPEAK UP. HAPPY POSTING!

Would you like me to put that in the "newbie tips" thread then steve?? Also, just b/c I started the thread doesnt' mean you can't edit anything or add your own info. As far as I'm concerned any mod can edit or add to his/her liking.

Hello,

It takes me right to the main site...used to.

First it was weight-loss.forum.com, than it took me to weight-loss.fitness.com, and now it takes me right to (even after typing the last in) fitness.com. So unless I hit up a *new tab* I type it in, and that's what I get. The main site.

I have yet to look around in there. I've only checked out the *weight training forum* seems a little slow in there. I've just stuck to this area.

For what it's worth, I found the forum from the main site, and spent a fair bit of time (okay, about a week) there initially, looking around and reading stuff.
But once I was really into the forum, I stopped going to the main site. Haven't been there in 5 months, probably. Sorry.

I request a new section called 'UNDERLYING ISSUES'

Hi,

There is so much discussion about how to lose weight, tons and tons of discussion about what people eat.

Why not have a section for "Why" I over eat?

The underlying issues are really the problem, and if we do not address the underlying issues we are putting a band aid on a gaping wound. Let's really encourage looking at why. If we don't change the why, we will be better off than before, but our losses will be in jeopardy.

The reasons for overeating are various, boredom, abuse, intimacy, self loathing, feeling stuck, depression..... Let's share our own stories, so we can see ourselves in others. The core issues are things that people sometimes do not share, but this board is a safe place for most of us.

Behavior change is essential to losing weight, but we should look beyond that.

Thank you!

If you like one on one attention, I don't blame any of you for only using the forums and getting the feedback that you need here in the WL community - but our main site has great exercises that can really work to your advantage. You can make your own work-out programs from them, print them off, and then take them to the gym with you. I'm not saying that's the only thing that will benefit you, but I'm saying it's the one thing you can get from the main site that you can't really get here!!!!!
