Need to lose this weight!

I have been overweight now for about 3 years. I got into a comfortable relationship, where one of our favourite things is to eat out. So in the first year I gained 18lbs. Then I continued to struggle trying to lose the weight as we decided to get pregnant. Well I only had lost 5 lb then found out I was pregnant. I gained 40 lb during my pregnanacy. (yes I was one of those people who thought they would eat everything while pregnant) My heaviest came at 202lb the day I gave birth. Within 2 weeks of having my baby I dropped 26lb immediately. I was ecstatic!!! I thought this is going to be easy to lose this weight...WRONG. I then gained 9 lb over the summer and have been struggling to lose this weight ever since. So I now weigh 185 lb.

I am one of those people who wake up every morning thinking ok today is the day I am going to lose this weight, so I eat a healthy breakfast. Then by lunchtime my mind is wandering (thinking of junk food). So I usually cave if not during the day then in the evening. Then I tell myself it's Ok I will just start tomorrow!! I give myself goals. For example I was suppose to lose 10-20 lb for Christmas...well I did lose 8 lb before Christmas and decided to award myself, by eating everything in sight over Christmas. I have a wedding in my family coming up in August. So I now have a new goal to lose 50 lb before the wedding. Up until 3 years ago I was always known as the small, pretty one in my family. So when I gained this weight I know they discuss it discretely. So you'd think that would be motivation enough for me to lose this weight...but unfortunately I still have the mentallity of there's always tomorrow. So I now only have a few short months so I have to start and stick with it!!!!

So I am hoping by joining this forum, will help motivate me!!!!

Would like to meet a female who weighs the same, with the same goal. So we can help each other out.

The key is willpower. How far will you go?

If you had to jog 800 meters and it was pouring rain would you put your sweater on and go run no matter how wet it was. Or would you sit inside and say to wet?

Food is dominating your life right now. It's your primary pleasure. It's your hobby. It's your reward. And it's in control.

You need to break the cycle.

As far as I can see, there are two issues:

1) The aforementioned authority of food in your life

and

2) The short-term mentality. It's always, "I'll lose weight by this date," with no concrete, long term approach in mind. It's always temporary behavior modification which will *always* lead to temporary results. Once the temporary way of living comes to an end, you revert back to #1 where all progress is reversed.

You've identified the cycle. Now it's a matter of becoming conscious of it more often than not so you can start breaking it.

Hi Monique! Thought I would stop by to check on you. Looks like this is a pretty new diary. Can't wait to hear some updates!

Thanks for the advice, every little bit helps. I now weigh 180.6. Not losing the weight as quickly as I wanted, but still losing. I find being in the biggest loser challenge on here very motivating. :) I also appreciate the motivation from my partner whiskeytangofox. We are the "Silver Team."

Hi Monique I decided to read your diary after you read mine!!! We have about the same amount to loose and around the same time frame I am also struggling, I have mini goals like when I reach the 20lb loose I will reward myself I used to say a purse now I decided that since summer is almost here I will get a pedicure!!! This way I break the cycle of rewarding myself with food. When I start thinking about junk I try to get on here and read others diaries. Obviously doesn't always work. I wish you Luck and hopefully by the time August gets around we will be close if not at our goal weight!

WOW!! I weigh 185 lbs too...and i want to lose 40 lbs (only 10 lbs apart) by August too!! so our goals are pretty similar, i'd be keen to keep in contact, keep each other motivated!
i'm 17, 5ft7, always been overweight, gone down throughout teenage years but I'm tired of not being able to feel as free and confident with my body in terms of clothes and swimwear..
By the end of August our new beach house is going to be ready. And a few weeks later is the beginning of my last school year. That's why August is my goal..
I want to live the experience of being completely confident as a teenager! I'm a lot more confident than most of the girls i know, i'm happy with who i am and i dont think i'm ugly at all, i just wanna shed off those pounds..
and i have the EXACT same problem as you.. the tomorrow problem! i always do that!
And at most, i stick to diets (or just healthy ways of eating and doing exercise) for a week or two, sometimes up to a month, lose up to 10 pounds, feel so good that i go and eat..and dont stop.. and put it all on again!
So todays the last day of holidays..i'm getting back into my routine tomorrow! Let me know if you'd be keen to be weight loss buddies..just keep each other updated with how its going! I think that type of motivation could really work! :)

Hi julietaryn,
I am Rita, well I tried to lose weight one year ago, and at first month I lost 6lbs, I was so happy with that, I did not instant, and ate again. But I gain back 8lbs again. I felt so bad.
I tried again, but I began to lose weight with my friend this time. Everyday, we motivated with each other, we kept going and going, finally in 3 months I lost 20lbs, and my friend also lost about 24lbs. We were so happy. Now we still motivate with each other and keeping our habit to control our weight.
The real solution for long term is to have good habit about food and exercise. A reasonable weight loss rate is around 0.5-2 pounds a week. To loose weight too fast is bad for health and will resolve nothing in long terms.
Here I share with you some tips I use for myself to loose 20 lbs in 3 months:
1. Take the habit to go to buy food with a list (of healthy stuff of course – forget soda, cookies, chocolate…) and with having eat something before.
2. When you need a snack before lunch and dinner … eat some fruits (fresh or dry) and some vegetables (little carrot…). Forget the “low fat” product snack … useless and expensive!
3. Share your weight-loss plan with a friend. It is always easier when you are two people (and more fun!)
4. Write down your goal on many papers with details (prefer something like “loose every week 2 pounds” to “I must eat less”) and stick it everywhere (bedroom, fridge, bathroom …).
5. Drink a lot of water ( 3 L per day) and forget all kind of fast food.

Let’s keep update with how it’s going, it will really work.

Hi Monique, I'm Theresa! i just wanted to tell you that you can do it. It may be hard, it maybe a struggle, but you can do it. I am also in the process of losing weight from my last (of 3) babies. I started out at 201. I got down to 183 and I'm now back up to 191 (while in recovery from a recent surgery). I refuse to go any higher. My 6 weeks is not up from my surgery but I am going to make sure that I eat well unitl I can start back working out. Feel free to read my dairy at any time. It may not be much help but then agian on some days it may. Good luck!

WOW! So happy to hear from everybody :) So sorry I haven't got back to you sooner. I was so busy reading everybody else's stories, that I neglected to check my own...I didn't think anybody would have read mine. I am so glad you did, and I would love to do this journey with you...YES WE CAN DO THIS.
