Need to be pointed in right direction!!

I'm new to the forum and heard great things about this site. I'm 28 years old and I recently underwent big changes in my life, mainly health... I joined this forum to get some help about getting back in shape... I smoked cigarets since I was 16, weight about 240 lb. Today I weight around 205 I'm 6'1', the reason I lost weight before I started any kind of fitness because of back troubles. Didn't think that trying to work out with all the excess weight was a good idea..

I need to know what's the best way to start any kind of fitness? I have been told everything from nothing but weights to swimming. I don't think that going out there and throwing up as much weight as you can first time is a good idea. I had cut down on smoking to the point were I almost don't smoke on some days.

Need to know how should I start my fitness workouts, and still be able to work 12 hours a day.
