Need support to help man who last 371 lbs

Hi My name is Katrina and my fiancee used to weight close to 600 lbs, 591 to be exact. He now weighs 220 and is extremely compliant with exercise and diet. However because of his previous obesity, he still has moments where he wants to or desires to eat fast food, pizza, etc., and I can see him really struggle with this --- like an alcoholic working to not drink --- I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about how to help me support him. I first and foremost don't want to unknowingly sabotage him (however he is very strong willed and focused on maintaining his weight) and I would like to see him relax about food.

Hi Katrina ... it's awesome that you want to support your fiance in that way and congrats to him on losing the weight.

One thing to keep in mind is that food may *always* be a struggle for him. The statistics on maintaining weight loss are not terribly positive and many of us struggle to maintain the losses once we've made them.

From your side, I think the obvious things are try not to bring foods into the house that you know are tempting to him or are what we call "trigger foods" - things that he can't resist or can't eat just one serving of. Participate in cooking healthy meals when you can.

But also just be there to listen if he wants to talk or if he's struggling. Even if you do everything just right - there are days that will be tough for him and there's just nothing you can really do about that except be there and be supportive.

Good luck to both of you! :)
