Need some Weightlifting Advice

Hello all,

I want to make some changes. Presently for the last two years or so I have made it a mission to try to lift more each week, always trying to get that last pound. Lately I been asking myself why am I doing this, not in competition or anything, except maybe with myself. I find I hurt myself more often attempt heavier weights.

So I decided perhaps I should drop down and stick to lighter weights. Presently I just do more reps, I actually can find it harder at times, perhaps since I have a lighter weight I am focusing on my form more. I am pretty happy with the way I look now, moving to a different style of lifting, in this case lighter weights with more reps am I going to lose my present shape. I am not so much concerned about how much I can lift, but rather just staying in the shape I am in now.

Love to hear some opinions on this

Thanks

it doesn't matter how much you can lift. you can still grow muscles with light weights. you should try high reps with light weights, and low reps with heavy weights. do that for about 6 weeks and then try heavier weights, and no you won't lose your shape.

You still need progrssive overload but i agree taking a few weeks or a month to do full body moderate weight for instance will help with form and injuries. Negatives also help with injuries.

form is pivotal. I always perform very light warmup sets to stretch, but mostly to find that mind/muscle connection, and make sure that I'm using the right muscle for the move. it's easy to let your shoulders to a lot of the work on a bench press...or you can force the pecs to take on that load, with the triceps as backup, and force those deltoids to stabilize rather than move the bulk of the weight.
