Echo Steve and Eric,
I think it's best to eat simple foods, meaning without lots of processing, additives, sauces and nonsense. Whole foods.
Bring your own lunch to work or wherever, it is very diffiult to control what you're eating when you're eating at a restaurant. Portions at restaurants are WAY bigger than need be.
I have been using FitDay (no affiliation etc.) to track my eating. It is remarkable how small things add up, even healthy things! I plan to keep tabs in formal way daily for as long as it takes for me to really understand how much I need to consume to support my lifestyle.
I am convinced that the focus really shouldn't be on losing weight, the focus should be on developing a way of eating and exercising, which will result in a fit body and a healthy weight for the rest of our lives.
Enjoy the journey!
