Need some help

Not sure if this is the right section, my name is Jason and Ive just started working out and changing the way I eat. I have read numerous places its a lifestyle change and not going on a diet so that is how I am looking at this. Currently I weigh 240 lbs and im 5'-8", I know that sounds huge for my height but I am really not that big. I will post pictures later tonight when I get home, I think taking pictures will help keep me motivated. Basically I need some advice from some of the guys who have been doing this a while. Im not looking to be huge, basically I want to cut down all my fat, have a nice body and be in shape and feel better about myself and my apperance. I played college baseball, so I know the foundation is there its just covered by fat. I was in pretty good shape when I started my job, problem is my job is a desk job and sitting at a desk all day doesnt help burn fat. My main questions are these. Whens the best time to workout? Morning? Night? If I workout in the morning should I eat before or after my workout? I feel like working out in the morning will be tough at first with waking up earlier and such, but I also feel like I will feel better throughout the day. Also for breakfast I vary on what I eat. This morning at 7:30 I had a 100 Calorie cereal bar and a glass of milk and was good until about 9:30 or so when I ate some apple slices and nuts. For lunch I will be having a small sandwich with turkey and ham, then a snack in the afternoon of apples and nuts. Dinners I am not sure yet. If anyone can give me any advice on these things that would be great. Also what are good workouts? if you could give me a day by day breakdown that would be awesome. Also is it beneficial to workout everyday or no? Thanks again, and sorry its so long.

So, I'll just try to tackle a few of these:

1. When's it best to workout? Whenever you'll be INTO it. If you're going to half ass it in the morning, then do it at night. If you'll have distractions at night, then do it in the morning.
2. Personally, I'd try to squeeze in some protein at every opportunity, but there are worse things than nuts, apples and turkey.
3. Should you workout every day? No. Your body needs time to heal. Soon enough, you'll injure yourself.
4. Good routines? There are millions, but I've always liked full body routines 3 times a week for weight loss, with some intervals or other form of cardio on a couple of off days, but everyone's different. Seriously, just google 'full body routine'. If you want a book, The New Rules of Lifting is a good place to start.

Whenever you are free in morning or night do the workout after workout it should be at least after 2 hrs you should eat something.
Don't skip breakfast it is the main part of healthy weight loss effort because it increase your energy level and metabolism throughout the day.
Drink plenty of water 6-8 glass per day it also helps you to loose weight. Water helps metabolism to burn 3% of calories from your body and it also helps to flush out toxins from your body.

First of all, congratulations on taking the step to start making some positive changes, that is so great.

Your first question about when is the best time to workout, typically it's in the morning, for many reasons but most important is that you're more likely to DO it if it's first thing in the morning. Plus, it sets the tone for the rest of your day. So maybe just start by getting up 20 minutes earlier and gradually increase it to 3o and then 45. Take the process slowly so you're less likely to quit, if it's too aggressive, you may quit.

Women, typically don't get enough protein and breakfast bars are sometimes loaded with sugar and in two hours you're starved, to try to shoot for a more protein based breakfast and lunch. I love eggs but will also make plain yogurt smoothies with fresh berries and some protein powder.

Strength training is really important as well. You need to MOVE every day, but not high intensity workouts. So maybe on the days when you don't get in a full workout, those are days you can take a walk after dinner, or during your lunch hour at work. If you sit at a desk job, I try and encourage people to get up every hour and stretch or walk for a couple of minutes.

Don't try to change too much at once, take it slow and gradually add on, that's the surest way to maintaining your changes and successfully losing weight!

Good luck!
