Need some help!

Hi,

I am new to this forum and this is my first post. Let me tell a little about myself and my workouts and then I will ask my question. Well, I started my weight loss plan in february. Since then I have lost 60 pound and I am really excited about it. But I still have a long ways to go. I am now 5'10" and 250 pounds and I want to get below 200. I know I can do it but I think I have officially hit a snag.

For the last month I have not lost a pound. I have weighed the same thing day in and day out and I will be honest, I am getting a bit frustrated. I work out 4-5 days a week with weight training and different cardio exercises( I have read that it is good to mix it up and not get used to a routine). I am even training to do my first 5K marathon(for me that is a big deal and I am pumped about it). I definitely workout harder than ever because I have gotten into better shape since losing the weight and I count my calories everyday. According to a calorie intake calculator that I used I am supposed to eat between 1700 - 2000 calories a day and I meet that mark pretty much everyday. I never go past that but sometimes I do fall below the mark. I have also read several books and magazines about eating properly and have made a life change towards being healthy. No fast food or junk, just good proteins, whole grains, and vegetables. So, with all that being said, what do you think could be the problem? How can I get passed this plateau? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

I think, if you post your specific routine, it might help to see a problem, but I'll do my best with what you've offered above.

Have you heard of or tried HIIT? Interval training can be an effective plateau buster! Are you continuing to "ramp up" your workout routines? (i.e. longer/harder cardio sessions, increased weights on the bar, etc.) You have to make sure that you continue to "shock" your body into letting go of the fat. You can also check into dietary measures...if you are pretty regular about eating 1700 cals a day, and doing the same routine, your body just learns how to efficiently accomplish those activities wtih that amount of calories, thus slowing your weight loss. You can try eating a lower amount of calories on your non-workout days, eating a little over on certain days (others here can explain this much better than me--check into "carb cycling").

Hope that helps! Like I said, you may want to post your exact routine so we can look at it.

I agree with Greenhorn Gal. Your body becomes "acclimated" to the frequency, intensity and duration of your exercise. If your doctor says it's ok, push yourself to a place that you haven't been before. Is it uncomfortable? You bet, but as you push your limit, you will notice your body is able to tolerate more and more discomfort.

Congrats on your weightloss!

Thanks, I guess I haven't really ramped it up too much. I have increased speed on the treadmill and the elliptical but not really the time. I will try going a longer amount of time and see if that gets me going again. Interval training was something I have read about and I will give that a shot too.

Thanks for the help!
