I've been walking/running for a month now and I have lost about five pounds but now it seems I have hit a plateau. I'm 5'10" 245lbs, for breakfast I eat a peanut butter sandwich and for dinner it's broccoli and a chicken fillet am I on the right track advice appreciated.

Hi mikey

Thanks for posting.

If I were you, I would remove that peanut butter sandwich.

What worked for me was switching to a Paleo way of life. (Peanuts and bread are not allowed on this way of life)

I have been there and done it. Lost 45 pounds in 3 months.

Ask me anything.

Hey Mikey,

Just some general guidelines:

1) Do more meals a day; it sounds like you're cutting way too much by only having two meals a day. If that's all you eat, your metabolism slows down (because your body understands you're starving) and further fat loss becomes harder each day
2) Add more proteins and veggies to your meals, not only to speed that metabolism up again but for your health too
3) Consider adding weight training, instead of just cardio
4) I would drop the peanut butter sandwich: mixing carbs and fats in the same meal is not a good idea if you're trying to lose fat

Best,

Fred

You have need to change your diet chart.

1. Fill up on water-rich, fiber-filled foods like vegetables, fruits, beans, hot cereals, potatoes, corn, yams, whole-wheat pasta, and brown rice.
2. Start lunch and dinner with a huge salad full of fresh vegetables.
3. Every day, if possible, enjoy soup, stew, and/or chili
4. Eat only when you’re hungry.
5. If you’re still hungry after dinner, enjoy fresh fruit.

Mary, explain your reasons rather than just posting a cookie cutter response to an old post.

Believe it or not, eating too little will hinder your weight loss. This is commonly called 'starvation mode' but is more accurately called adaptive thermogensis. Essentially, your body has a protective mechanism where it will set your metabolism based on what you give it. If you only eat 600 calories per day (which is generous based on what you've said) then you'll end up burning only 600 calories per day.

I'd invite you to eat more.

Two easy places to start would be to eat a decent breakfast (eggs and veggies are fine) and to eat lunch. Sticking to meat and veggies is a great idea for weight loss, so maybe get rid of the peanut butter sandwich.

Hope that helps!
