Need re-motivation

Hi, my name is Jeannie. last year I lost 70 lbs and this year I have gained a little back and just can't seem to get "Back on the wagon" again. I re-joined Curves last week and am trying that. That helped last year and I recently moved and thought I could save a buck by giving up my gym membership. But I really loved it and last year I did so well there. My main issue is I am a binge eater. I do great during the morning/day, but when I get home I eat everything in the house before I realize what I have done. Its horrible and I feel so ashamed of myself.
any words of advice?

Hi Jeannie!

I have the same problem with bingeing on weekends & at night. I found that it helps if:
1. I don't have junk food in the house.
2. I put the treats in a really high shelf in the cupboard so I can't reach it easily
3. Before you open the fridge STOP & think "Is it REALLY worth it?" What will you lose if you don't have the snack? Is it really essential to have that food?
4. Treat everyday as a weigh-in day - this works really well for me.
5. Talk to someone who will put things in perspective

- Hope this helped!! Jas-

I agree with Jas above. One thing that really helps me is to get my "binge" foods out of the house.

I know if there are chips of any kind in my house, I"ll eat them. Even if I'm not hungry, I'll eat them. So I don't bring them into my house. Ever.

I also really think about what I want to eat. If I crave something and I can't break the craving, often I'll tell myself that I can have a healthy snack first - an apple or some carrots or something like that. If, an hour after eating the apple, I still want the food I'm craving, I can have a little. Usually I find that if I eat an apple and then do something else, by the time bedtime rolls around, I've forgotten about the original craving to begin with.

Also, if nighttime eating is really a problem, then save up the majority of your calories for the evening. There is NO reason you can't eat 1/3 of your calories during the day and the remaining 2/3 at night for dinner and a snack. I have done this in the past when I felt like I HAD to eat at night and it's helped me break the night-time binge cycle.

Oh, and one other thing - make sure you're eating enough calories overall. If you're starving at night, then it might be that you're cutting your calories TOO low. Based on your ticker, I'd say you should be eating around 2500 calories a day to lose weight. So if you're cutting it a lot lower than that, it might make it really hard to get back on the wagon and stay on. :)

Good luck to you! :)

Focus on how much you have already achieved. You have achieved a lot - it should encourage you to continue the job.

As far as the binge eating goes - a lot of us have food that can really speak to us. I cannot allow cereal into the house. If it is here - I will eat it. Hunger has nothing to do with it... I have got so that even the plain healthy stuff is just too big a temptation for me. I will finish the box as soon as it is here. I tell my husband that if he must buy it - it needs to not come into the house. He can take it to work and eat it there - but if it comes into the house - it is not like he will eat it here because I will have got there first.

I have to agree with the others. Try to keep it out of the house...
