Need of a woman's help!

First of all, thank you very much for this forum. I have been learning TONS here in the last weeks, even though I have just registered.

I am completly new otherwise, this is my first post!

I am in need of help. I got myself a personal trainer recently, and to be honest, the guy has been training me like a footballer! Anyway that's how I feel

Lots of legs with big weight ,inner thigh abductor at 150 lbs, And lots of machines for the arms.

I have talked to him about it, but unfortunatly, I think he just wont change my routine, or he wont change the kind of routine I have.

What I really want, is something with free weights, something to elongate the muscles, something to get fit.

I am probably completly lost here, and maybe what he makes me do is just perfect, but this is just a feeling I have, that this routine is not for me.

I see women train in the gym, and they do a lot of abs, a lot of free weight, and god they look great!

I'd like to know if someone would be up for a challenge 'a girl if possible..', to make me a routine, to make me a training plan, and see the results I would get. I'd be ready to give monthly pictures of my progress.

If you are up to the challenge!

Oh, I also do HIIT on an eliptical machine. I do 2 minutes of really High intensity, and then 2 minutes of cool down.

Ps: as you can see, english is NOT my first language!
Thank you so much, and I will keep on being an avid reader of this forum. I hope someday I have enough knowledge that I can help someone myself.

My stats are: 5,5. 150 lbs, not muscular, big boned, curvy with thick thighs.
I have a fairly good cardio.

Hi Mikuchan,

I'm not a female but may be able to help.

Firstly, it might be an idea to tell us what your goals are and then tell us exactly what the personal trainer is getting you to do.

Generally speaking, women do not need to train any differently to men. That being said, I am not sure of the reasoning of using all the machines over free weights, considering this is actually what you want to do. Doesn't sound like they are very good personal trainer to me.

You may want to invest in a book called New Rules of Lifting for Women. It sounds as though it would be perfect for you. There is also a men's (the original) version which is also fantastic. There would be absolutely no problem in you following this program either. I believe the womens version has more specific information on diet etc relating to women.

Hey there!

I just started my workout plan a few weeks ago, and my stats are a little different (5'9'', 150lbs, 17yrs), but you're certainly welcome to do it with me! Currently, I'm doing a pretty quick and simple workout, four times a week. Maybe we can keep each other on track :D

Generally, I do the same cardio as you - 2min hard, 2min easy, for about 20 min. I used to do it on the elliptical but I'm changing things up a bit and trying it on the bike instead. My routine is push/pull, with about four exercises a day. Basically...

Workout A
Bench
Front and lateral raises (as a tennis player, I want to make sure my shoulders are strong)
Squats

Workout B
Lat pulldown
Bentover Row
Abs (still don't have a set routine for this though)
Squats

You can check out my journal for full details: http://training.fitness.com/journal/topspin-s-journal-30483.html

Best of luck!

you'd think that when you pay for a personal trainer you don't have to come to sites like this to learn how to better your workouts....guess not.

Are there other personal trainers in your gym? If so, talk to each one and ask what routine they would put you on. You may find a better fit for yourself. Seems to me a personal trainer should be like any other investment and you want the most/best for your money. Shop around in other words. If you are under a contract with your current trainer see if there is any way to break it without losing a lot of money (or it may even be worth it for you to lose the money). You need to have a good relationship with your PT and have every confidence that he/she is doing what's best for you.

Good luck and don't settle for less than you expect (i.e. don't lower your expectations when someone else (your PT) isn't meeting them).

I agree the rules for strength training are the same for men and women but most women do not want to follow the routines men follow. I don't know many women who want to be hoisting barbells or bench pressing. I know there are women out there who do but in my girly girl circle it's not very common. Fortunately, there are many other options that are more appealing to girly girls :)

I'm a personal trainer and female. Feel free to PM me if you want help.

Read the book from cover to cover in a day, and my views on how I should train are completly changed. Not only that, but I now enjoy my hard manly workout hehe. I enjoy to be able to raise the weight on the machines, and to break a sweat trying to reach that 12th rep. Thank you for this advice, this has changed the way I see training as a whole. I am not afraid to train hard now!

Thank you so much to you, and everyone else who answered!

Good luck !

NROLFW does not in any way even confirm that you are on the right path with your workout. First of all, it's a great book, and you really should read it.

You're trainer is an idiot. Sorry, someone had to say it. He's not training you like a footballer, he's training you like someone who hasn't a clue.

I am embarrassed that people like that even share my profession. He should have a DB hurled at his head!
