Need Motivation

hey guys...i think i'm in need of motivation...

i've been following the weight watchers program (without going to meetings) and i find myself discouraged because I want to lose weight more quickly! (and yet i know that the faster i lose weight the faster i will gain it back, as i've proven in the past)

i've read up on the 'Body for Life' Workout regime, has anyone tried this technique?

does anyone have suggestions on workout regimes for "tall, small upper-body but bottom heavy" females? Is lots of cardio essentially the answer? Should i really be doing leg weights before losing more weight? I don't mind doing weights with my upper body but i'm afraid to workout my legs since i'm slowly starting to run...i don't want big calves...

any suggestions are appreciated...

i wouldn't worry too much about getting big calves because calves are 90% genetic. They are extremely hard to build, so if you don't have them, don't worry about it. You should be doing some leg work as it'll help build up your legs to improve your running, as long as you don't overtrain, and your quads are your biggest muscle group, and therefore your biggest fat burners.

are you sure about that?...not that I want to discourage Ruby...but I always had nice lean calves until I moved to the city and chose the bike for a main form of transportation. My calves aren't overly big, but they sure increased during that time and I have never been able to get rid of them. They were very muscular during my bike-riding times but now they are just big and not muscular at all anymore. I have to admit though that during that time I also gained about 25lbs and not all muscle

doh!

Does anyone swim? Swimmers always have such lean bodies...that's what I want :)

I just saw some pictures of last summer and they've given me motivation, but I still have a silly question. I've only ever lost weight once (two years ago) and have slowly gained most of it back over the past year. I know yo-yo weight loss is horrible but as i lose weight again will it come off in all the same places again? I don't know if the question makes sense...

My genetics gave me broad shoulders and back and smaller hips--not very much difference between waist and hip measurements and both smaller than my shoulders. I can't buy a suit with jacket and skirt together because my top is a couple of sizes larger than my bottom.

If you are more pear shaped, try swimming or rowing. They both develop your upper body--and most of us women have weaker upper bodies than lower. I'd also try pilates. I've done it, and it helps you strengthen and stretch to give the illusion of longer muscles. Don't shy away from strength training. The biggest reason that most people are out of proportion is usually because fat is held in certain areas and not others. Strength training really cranks up the metabolic furnace.

Good luck, and don't worry about the time it takes. Focus on whether you're doing today what you intend to in order to take care of yourself. One day at a time.
