Need lots of advice...

Hey everyone,
I am a 22 year old male who is 5'10" and 216lbs. I want to get going and improve my health and I need advice. Currently I eat a lot of fastfood and am not very good at the three meals a day thing.

I just signed up for a gym and plan on going there at least 4 times a week. I try to do cardio (mostly tredmill) for about 45-50 minutes (powerwalking/jogging) and throw in about 15 to 20 minutes of cycling.

Question 1: I have never lifted before...can you guys give me some advice for begining lifting? Or even a website with tips?

Question 2: There is no way I can do 5 meals a day (between school, gym, and work I don't have a lot of time). What would be a good three meal plan? For example...would a bowl of cereal and 1% milk be good for breakfast? And how about a deli sandwhich (no mayo or bacon) for lunch? And what about dinner?

Question 3: Motivation will be the hardest thing...I mean sticking with it. I plan on frequenting these boards a lot to keep me on the wagon but what would be a good weekly or monthly goal? I dont want to get through the first month, lose 5lbs and give up thinking that I could of done better.

Sorry if these are repetitive questions. I would really appreciate any advice. Thanks a lot!

Preditor,
If possible, I would try to plan on going to the gym the same time everyday. It sounds like you have an extremely busy schedule, and if you tell yourself "I'll go after I...", things will keep coming up, and you will end up putting it off.
Plan for it like you would a class. It doesnt have to be 2 hours either. If you have 30 minutes, then you go for 30 minutes. If you have it, plan on an hour. No more!
Next, make sure you are doing things you enjoy doing. If you hate the treadmill, run outside. If you hate aerobics, "sneak" it in by shooting hoops.
As far as the weights, if you've never lifted before, take advantage of a free orientation or 2 that the club should offer as a courtesy.
Stop the fast foods as best you can! If you cant, order grilled chicken sandwhiches with no mayo (problem is they usually butter the buns). Eat more than a bowl of cereal for breakfast. Have some fruit, toast with PB, a cheese stick. Sandwhich for lunch is good. Dinner should be low in carbs, and not too big a portion.
As far as no time for 5 meals a day...
throw a protein bar in your gym bag and eat it after the workout. A cheese stick and a peice of fruit, box of raisins, sanwhich bag with nuts, yogurt...you dont have time for that?
Hope this helps!
You should get some good advice from this board! The people are great!

Just to add to gymcoch this is a very good workout routine for power and muscle. But its a very good idea to get some advice from your local gym. However, this is the best FREE course i have seen. You can learn a lot.

I would work on the lifts slowly for the first few weeks thou before hitting intense weight to get good form.

This is only one routine there's thousands but its one of the good ones. :)

Like I said in the book forum, I've glanced over Max OT and it looks interesting, but it doesn't have much of a cover or anything and I have no idea where it's from. Plus, the "I am teacher, you are student, you must listen to me," would carry a lot more weight if I knew it was someone credible. Not to say that that means that Max OT isn't good... but I seem to have a lot more faith when I know who the authors are, and the authors seem credible, like in Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle.
