Need Help On Losing Weight

Well I'm overweight, but I'm very active in sports and weight training.. and the meals I eat aren't that healthy either.. I always heard running can lose a few pounds but I'm not really a runner and plus I have astma! I was just wondering, what can I do to lose weight! Can anyone give me some advice..

Start eating better.

If you are active in sports and the asthma isn't an issue there, then it probably wouldn't hurt you too much if you did some running. Mainly, though, you need to worry about your nutrition.

Look:

Losing weight is a function of controlling your energy balances. If your energy expenditure is less than your energy intake, the body has no choice but to store/create tissue in some form or fashion.

Clearly, if you want to get rid of the existing tissue (fat), you've got to give your body a reason.

That reason is by expending more energy than you intake. You must create an energy (calorie) deficit.

Your body functions on X amount of calories each day. If you feed it a lower amount Y.... guess what.... it still needs X amount. Because you only fed it Y, your body is going to turn to its existing stores (fat, muscle, etc) to fuel itself, in laymans terms.

This, in essence, is how you lose weight.

The energy deficit can come from an increase in activity which in turn, will increase the expenditure side of the equation. It can come from an decrease in food consumption. Or, it can come, preferably, from a combination of the two.

All that said, hopefully you understand that calorie balance is a critical concept with regards to weightloss.

Of course there are other important variables, too, such as macronutrient breakdown and what not. But it sounds like you need to get your energy balance under wraps first.

I have exercise induced asthma and i couldnt really run that well either without having to use an inhaler every 10 minutes. What i did was swim, I lost about 60 lbs from it along with eating healthier and now that im more fit the asthma seems be be a lot more stable.

hi there,
2 years ago I was exactly in your shoes, I was active in sport, doing weight training and even eating healthy, but I still was over weighted! The best advice I can give you is to “educate yourself” and learn even more about weight loss and training. That was what I did, and today I got a lean body! When changed my mind, and start reading some books then really begin to see results!!! I would recommend you to really start learning about dieting and fat loss training, by buying some books or maybe invest in a personal trainer. Then you will defiantly see results.

Cheers :action11:

There are lots of others cardio option besides running you may consider since Cardio is one of the most important things you can do for your body, whether you want to lose weight, build muscle or improve your health.

Keep in mind cardio exercises are very good option to lose weight gradually but steady way. If you want to lose your weight quickly then you need to perform intense exercise simultaneously with cardio.

Here are couples of option you may consider to lose your weight in steady way:

• Bicycling: By using the power of your legs, you increase endurance while burning lots of calories, anywhere from 250-500 in 30 minutes, depending on how fast you go and how high your resistance is. What makes cycling even better than other activities is that you can incorporate it into your daily life.

• Elliptical trainer: The elliptical trainer is also a good choice for runners looking for a break from pounding the pavement. A 145-lb person burns about 300 calories in 30 minutes.

• Swimming: Swimming is another great choice because; it's a full body exercise. The more body parts you involve in your workout, the more calories you'll burn. Spend 30 minutes doing the breastroke and you'll burn almost 400 calories. Best of all, your joints are fully supported so you don't have to worry about high-impact injuries.

• Step aerobics: It's also a great calorie-burner, targeting your legs, butt and hips while burning 300-400 calories in 30 minutes (during high intensity sessions).

• Rowing: In 30 minutes, a 145-lb person can burn about 300 calories, but if you've never tried rowing, it can be tough. Start with 10-15 minutes and add time to subsequent workouts to give your body time to adapt.

• Walking: It's harder to get your heart rate up with walking since its low impact but, if you work hard at it, a 145-lb person can burn about 180 calories in 30 minutes.

• Jumping on the rope: A 145-lb person can burn a whopping 330 calories with a 30-minute workout, but you'll want to slowly work your way up to that.

See, there are lots of options to lose your weight in steady way. Try to change your overall lifestyle and don’t forget about diet. Add lots of vegetables, fruits and salad in your daily meal.
