Need help/advice!!!

I am new here and am interested in any/all advice I can get. I am 32 years old and weigh 350 pounds. I am afraid that I will not get to see my daughter grow up if I do not do something about it. My problem is....where do you start? I know obviously that I have to change my diet and get active. The diet part is not a problem...will be starting weight watchers. The exercise is the problem. What do I need to be concentrating on when I exercise (cardio, weights, etc.)? How often do I need to be doing these exercises? What types of weight training do I need to do? How many reps and how much weight?

I am researching all of this information on the net but would really like to get some first-hand advice from people.

Thank you for any help you might be able to provide.

The best thing, I find, is to do something you like. If you like running/cycling/swimming/rowing/dancing, etc, then do that. After that, all you need to do is make sure your energy expenditure (bmr + harris benedict equation gives you a ballpark figure) is more than your energy intake (what you eat), and you'll lose weight.

Your best bet, though, is to read the stickies, particularly in the Weight Loss Through Exercise forum, and the On Topic forum. Heck, all the forums :D

Diet and what you're eating is going to be the biggest factor in your losing weight.

You want to make sure that you're eating enough as well and have plenty of wiggle room with your calories - too low is not a good idea for your current weight you want to eat for the body you currently have... and as you lose weight -adjust downwards...

Movement is easy... start by walking - just make your efforts consistent - don't overdo it and build up gradually...

Yeah, what the others have said is good advice.

I do weight watchers and started at 311lbs and they also focus more on the diet than on exercise. What I did, and found to be most beneficial, was to just start off with more activity and work from there. I know when I have failed in the past I've been looking for a quick solution and became all gung-ho about exercising and all that, but weight loss is slow and ultimately a matter of changing your lifestyle. So, I would say there's no need to rush in the deep-end exercise wise unless you're ready for it. Focus on your food choices and portions and just become more active. Walk a little more here and there and as you lose weight things become easier.

I found that changing my food habits was something that I had to retrain my self to do, but could start immediately and notice the differences and that the amount of activity and exercise that my body needed/could do was progressive.

Anyway, that's just how it was for me. You may be completely different. Best of luck.
