But I am working on it! :biggrinjester:

Just wanted to introduce myself; my name is Sue, female, 63, living in Boondocks, NSW, Australia, with two Rottweilers and beloved hubby, 53. Hobbies are diets (I've been on one or another since 1965) :svengo: Rottweilers (show/breed/obedience train), travel and photography.

I firmly believe there are two types of eaters - hunters and gatherers. I'm a hunter! If I don't have animal protein at least twice a day I just don't stop eating, ever. By sticking with a high proportion of protein in my diet I stabilised at US size 6 for many years; then a pulmonary embolism pushed me back to size 18. :willy_nilly: Now I'm back at a size 10 and losing again.

Meanwhile, my 6 foot husband (190 pounds) can be perfectly content with a banana or ONE slice of cake! He's a gatherer I guess? He doesn't seem to be affected by the need for protein that rules my life. My aim in life is to weigh MUCH less than him, as I should at 5' 5 inches!

Would love to hear from anyone at all, but especially doggie people or those who just eat and eat for no good reason (like me). :grouphug:

I have a year old lab mix, sometimes I think we could take a lesson from our pets! He runs around all day and comes in to eat when his stomach rumbles. And he does know the word treat, but for now he just runs them off chasing dragonflies.

Good luck with your goals, I'm trying to eat only when necessary at the moment! Such as when my stomach actually growls, and I have a need, not just a want. :)

Both me and my brother are losing weight, as you said, "eat for no reason", we look back on our habits and laugh, we realised that eating had become more of a hobby, doing it simply because the act of eating was good/comforting, which is a really bad behaviour to have.

Once you're aware of your own behaviour though it's only a matter of a little willpower to change it.

Hi and welcome to the forum (from a fellow New South Welshman- an expat, as the location reveals) :)

I firmly believe in doing what works for you. There are health reasons to not eat too much meat (if that's what you mean by "animal protein") but apart from that, if you stick to your calories (even having an awareness if you don't want to calorie count) should lead to weight loss. There's no point in being hungry and mindlessly eating. I used to mindlessly eat before I started calorie counting and being aware of the foods that helped keep me full. (protein's definitely on that list)

My parents have a black lab, sadly I can't afford a pet and wouldn't be allowed one in the apartment I now live in. I'm visiting them in a month or so and am almost looking forward to seeing the dog as I am to seeing my family (I haven't seen my family in 18 months. I think comparing seeing the dog to my family might mean I have skewed values) I'm definitely an animal person, and much more dogs than cats.

What's your plan to help you lose weight? (I'm a calorie counter, and it's the only thing that's ever worked for me- I've lost 7kg in 7 weeks)
