Nausea When Exercising?

Okay I've been exercising well... pretty consistently for about two to three weeks now. When I'm doing something that's stationary like weights or push-ups or crunches, I don't have a problem. But if I start doing something cardio like jumprope or jogging, I start getting stomach pains and a killer case of nausea. I've tried not eating before working out but I still get nauseous either way.

Is this like... normal when first starting out?

i wouldn't say it's normal for everyone just starting out...everyones body is different and reacts to physical activity in different ways.

i know, personally, that if i don't eat some sort of carb before working out (normally something quick in the morning, cereal bar or toast), i'll start to feel nauseous about 15 minutes into my workout...which then causes me to end my workout early because drinking a lot of water just isn't cutting it at that point. maybe because i workout in the morning and that has been a long time since i've consumed anything besides water.

could the cardio you're doing be too intense for your body to handle if you've just begun working out? i don't know when you started, but when i first started, my body HATED cardio. i would get out of breathe walking a fast pace on an incline on the treadmill and running would've absolutely made me kill over, i believe. maybe start out with some fast paced walking and work up to running?

just a few random thoughts...hope any of this helps :)

I get that way too if I don't eat. I cannot exercise empty. I eat a regular dinner about 45 minutes before my taekwondo class, which can be pretty intense, and feel great. Empty, I can barely make it through.

Nods and agrees, I train fairly intensely, well very intensely in Thai and Kick Boxing as well as MMA. There are times when we push ourselves too far and become nauseous, the only time I feel this when training is when I have pushed myself to the limits. It does not seem to be food related for me, however if you havent got enough calories in your body you will hit the wall quicker. Try eating at least an hour before training, seems to work well for me.

Nausea is likely to result from 2 things which are pretty much the polar opposite.

If you haven't eaten carbohydrates within 90 minutes before training your intense exercise could be causing your blood sugar to dip which gives some people nausea and dizziness.

If you've eaten any slowly digested foods ( protein & fat) too close to your training session, the food will be in the stomach. Intense exercise brings blood to your muscles taking it away from your digestive system which causes you to want to regurgitate.

Which one are you?
