Natural way to quit smoking?

: Is it possible to quit smoking through natural methods, I mean without using those nicotine patch or medications. I don’t have much faith in medications.

Do you have kids? If so, take a good long look at them and wonder what they will go through watching you kill yourself by smoking. 100% natural, and 100% free.

Agreed

Your spouse will work as well.

Or you could just quit. Thats natural. Cold turkey is as natural as it comes.

I hate to sound like a jerk, but its really not that hard. I smoked for 10 years, 1-2 packs a day, and i quit cold turkey. For a few days i felt ****ty, then i pretty much got over it. You just have to want to quit i guess. After quitting you will realize how gross it is.

Yeah like everybody says it is possible to quite without anything and that's as natural as it comes.

I used to quit all the time so I know your pain. Falling back happens it takes a lot of will power and REALLY wanting to quit for you to start all over again after you fall back. Anything chemical or natural you can take is just replacing the smoking with something else for a whole. There are more methods/programs for quitting smoking than just about anybody would realize so if you try one and it doesn't work then try another. Don't feel weak if somebody tells you they had no problem quitting and you are having a lot of trouble, it is an addiction it affects different people different ways. Some social smokers don't inhale much even though they burn 2 packs a day some people who smoke 5 or 6 cigarettes a day are taking in more nicotine if they suck them right back.

There are lots of methods to help you quit do a little research and find one that sounds good to you, support groups, whatever it takes. If the first doesn't work for you then try another. If you really want to quit and commit to quitting and get your family/friends to help you can do it. And yes even if you do quit successfully you may see someone smoking and want one real bad a month, a year, 5 years, 10 years later so it is a lifelong thing.

Good Luck, you can do it if you believe in you.

I went cold turkey too, but my biggest problem was being out with beer in one hand and cigg in the other with smokers around me. So I stopped going out to give myself time to get over the first couple of weeks, in that time I had loads of extra energy and felt better in myself. I still like a beer so had a couple at home in front of the telly. After 6 months or so of this I started going out now and again but I would stop drinking when the urge got to much and went home. 6 years later still not smoking and I can go out and drink without being bothered by smoking.

Take away the social part of it to give yourself time to recover and become stronger mentally.

i quit cold turkey like the others. my hubby quit by going to a hypnotist and he hasn't smoked since.

I used Bloog Electronic Cigarettes to quit smoking. They are not natural, and are similar to Nicoderm, etc. They are however much safer than cigs...

Have you heard of Allen Carr's easy way to stop smoking? Google it if you're curious. I bought his book just out of curiosity (I've never smoked). It looked good though (but like I say, I can't vouch).

Head Games

Decide that you don't want to be an addict - decide that you don't want to be mentally weak, and just stop. Anyone who says they can't do that just doesn't want to quit. Make yourself want it, thinking about it any way that you can. Pathologize it - think of your addiction as a cancer (before you get actual cancer, of course), and cure yourself of its hold on your health, money, and time.

Consider it a character-building exercise. You can do it - your body doesn't really want it, anyway.

Best of luck.

I justed to struggle with smoking. I was able to quit for 1-3 months stretch and got bored and returned back to the bad habbit. The craving was there even after 2 months; like a nagging voice.

THEN, about 17 months ago, the craving kinda went away slightly and I decided to change my lifestyle along with quitting smoking. Had to avoid all the atmosphere and a few friends that were smoking. It's hard to quit when things around you bring the craving back like drinking and hanging out with old buddies; especially drinking!!! Instead of going to bed at 2 am, I went to sleep before 11 pm and everytime that I had a craving, I would go excercise. I mean for the first 1-3 months, I excercised 1-3 times per day to replace that smoking high with a runner's high. It's crazy BUT the lots of people replace smoking with excercise.

My point is to keep trying and trying if you do fail. TRY your best to go cold turkey BUT if you cave in and smoke 1-2 cigs, forgive yourself and get back on the horse. As a semi-punishment, I forced myself to workout for 1 hour for every beer and 2 for every cigs....

Stopping smoking isn't that hard. 3 of my mates have recently done it, all in an instant!

I used to smoke a bit, but stopped with ease. I'm now just a social smoker (when im drunk) ;)

Just do it. Stop buying them, simple.

here's some encouragement I found on wikipedia:

The immediate effects of smoking cessation include:

* Within 20 minutes blood pressure returns to its normal level
* After 8 hours oxygen levels return to normal
* After 24 hours carbon monoxide levels in the lungs return to those of a non-smoker and the mucus begins to clear
* After 48 hours nicotine leaves the body and tastebuds are improved
* After 72 hours breathing becomes easier
* After 2–12 weeks, circulation improves
* After 5 years, the risk of heart attack falls to about half that of a smoker
* After 10 years, the chance of lung cancer is almost the same as a non-smoker.

I don't smoke - never have - but I realized how addictive nicotine is as I watched my mother dying of lung cancer and still smoking. Quit cold turkey works for some, but not others.

To answer the OP's question, I am sure there are lots of "natural" and/or "herbal" products that proclaim they can cause smoking cessation, but I would personally give more credibility to products approved by the FDA (US) or other government-approved regulator rather than some television infomercial.

How broad are the FDA though? My recollection is that the mainly cover drugs so if someone is looking for a natural alternative then the FDA are not the people to ask.

yes there are many natural ways to quit smoking. there are many herbs which can help you and also there are some home remedies that can help you a lot.

I quit cold turkey 3 1/2 years ago, but my method requires you to have some major illness. I had major surgery that kept me in the hospital for 10 days, and there, as you may know, the nurses are just unreasonably inflexible about smoking. What with the lines for IV feeding, catheter, NG tube, I couldn't slip away for a puff. No way, even after I could get out of bed. Then when I got out of the hospital, it would have taken a deliberate effort to start again, and it wasn't that hard to avoid making that effort.

very much possible. Always think mind over body. I did manage to quit after smoking for 8 years and yes i was addicted. All I did was to think that I want to live long enough to see my grandchildren and im only 25..

Quitting smoking for good isn't that tough as long as a person performs full self-discipline. Once a smoker finds it hard then it only means he still is capable of smoking again because of his smoking environment. One way to resist is to prevent things that will remind of the bad habit.

I have been a chain smoker for 4 years and I admit it is really hard to stop because your body got used to the chemicals that a single cigarette stick contains. What I did was I lessened the number of sticks I smoke per day. Until I reached to the point that I got used to smoking only one stick a day. I'm glad I was able to continue my discipline up to now.
