Natasha's Diary: In it to win it...

Hi nmartinez0531, thanks for stopping by my dairy! Just read through your dairy and looks like your back on track :)

I used to babysit for family and if they had a problem with my rules or punishment they could find someone else to watch them. I refuse to be disrespected by a child lol. I hope that all works out for you. Maybe talking to the parents will help.

Thank you Annie for understanding where I'm coming from... and THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH for the postive words and encouragement... I really needed that!!! :) That's why I'm so glad to be on here, all the positivity really helps you stay on track and want to keep going.

Solty... Thank you for stopping by and checking out my diary.. and I'm totally with you on the talking to the parents thing. He's my cousin-in-law... and I did talk to him, he just kinda shrugged it off.. So I told him to either have a talk with his kids and tell them they need to obey and listen or if I don't see a change, he'll have to find someone else :( I hate to do that to him, especially because he's family, but that's how it's gotta be... So thanks for your empathy and advice :)

Okay... so I wasn't on here yesterday... Way too long of a day, I was totally freakin busy all day long, but I did great!!! :hurray: I ate 1379 calories for the day, walked a mile and worked out for about 15 minutes on my balancing ball, so It was a FANTASTIC day!!! :)
Now... about today... well, not so good :( I went to a family bbq... always asking for trouble when you eat at them... there's no such thing as healthy.. but oh well, I did 1884 calories for today, and I walked 2 miles and worked out for 25 minutes on the balancing ball, so it wasn't totally bad, but I pretty much ate crap, pretty much no veggies, unless you count the half cup of salad I had :) Ah well, it could have been worse... ordinarily I would have easily eaten over 3,000 calories on a family bbq day... So I'm cool :coolgleamA: Well, I'm gna drop in on some diaries and get caught up so until next time :seeya:
Natasha

5/30/2009... Whoohoo!!! :hurray: I weighed in today... down 4 more lbs... That's right, I'm now at 253 lbs. I've lost a total of 2 inches off my waist, so I"m now at a 50" unstead of the 52... I feel so good. I did great on my calories... 1342 Calories... but I didn't work out, just cleaned house... Tomorrow... well actually today is my anniversary, so I probably won't be back in here until June 1st... I'm just really happy that my good eating habits are paying off. And although my calories are low... I have been eating very balanced and everything looks good, and I'm not feeling hungry... So I'm cool with it.. Well, Happy Anniversary to me and my Husband... 1 year married even though we've been together for 8 years... hehehe. Well until next time... :seeya:
Natasha

*Takes a deep breath in*

Congrats on the 4 pounds!!

Congrats on the 2 inches!!

happy anniversary!!!

Hope you guys had a nice time. Keep up the great work :)

Okay, so I'm back in here... gonna update this thing...
Thank you so much Solty, I really appreciate you stopping by... I'm going to swing by your diary here in a few to have a looksy :)

Okay, so yesterday was the anniversary, we went out to eat (naturally) I didn't do as great on my calories as I had wanted to but I did about 1860, no working out... not even in the bedroom... we were too tired :( Anyhow, it was a pretty good day.

Today, I was feeling a little bummed out, so I didn't work out, I did 1512 calories, I was trying to stay below 1400 since I knew I wasn't going to work out, but those little things tend to add up and I misweighed my wheat thins, so it added on another 120 calories... Still great though, being that I was eating around 3000 cals before I started this... I will do better tomorrow. :) Richard will be at work... I won't be as stressed out, it will be alot better :)
So as far as that goes, there's my little update... :seeya:

Weight training isn't going to bulk up a woman anyway, unless your that rare one that gains lots of muscle. We just aren't built to gain muscle like men do. I use heavy weights in my routine. I shoot for being able to do at least 8 reps and to hit fatigue before about 14-15. Once I can lift more then that I raise my weight, and I do 3-4 sets of everything. Like today was chest and arms for me.. so I did 3 exercises for my chest.. 3 for biceps and 3 for triceps. I've been at this for going on 6 months now and have done nothing but slim down. Rather then do cardio 6 days a week I do it 3 and do weight training the other 3 days and it's worked well for weight loss.

Everyone is different tho so of course you'll have to find what works best for you and what you'll stick with doing consistently. Just don't be afraid to lift more then those girly neon foam colored weights lol.

And don't feel bad when you go over calories. I don't... stressing about it isn't going to change anything.. it will only make you feel bad. And not having any treats for a period of time would kill me :p

Happy (late) anniversary

:seeya: Hey Hun,

You may not be doing as great as you'd like, but you're still tracking and I think thats a good step...you're conscious of what's going on. Things will stick soon.

Good Luck!

I'm with Solty here (I went over and checked out your post in the other diary).

Bulking is not going to happen to a woman because of some very simple physiological reasons. Yes it's possible to build up, but OMG the amount of work it takes...

Weight training will, add muscle, tone muscle, increase strength and give you more active tissue with which to burn more fat.

That being said. If you are currently not very active, it will add some density, so you will lose inches, while not necessarily losing weight on the scale at first. Even in a caloric deficit you can gain some muscle if you are not very fit to start with (ask me I was one of those people:D). You reach a point though where a lot of what you are doing is preserving as much lean mass on your body as possible and primarily burning fat. Which just happens to also be a really good place to be...

Best part id that if you do some strength training now, when you hit that goal weight you will already be toned, ready and HOT!!

Yeah, I used to lift in highschool and I did bulk... that's what scares me :( I don't think it would really hurt me now because I have so much fat that I think it will slim me down, so I'm going to try it... and trust me, I don't deprive myself of anything, I usually just make it fit in my calories :) But I think I've just bn feeling down so that's probably why I was even more bummd about my little overage :) I'm okay now though, and it's not a big deal. Thank you so much for your advice solty... It means alot and I am going to try what you said :)

OMG!!! Girl, where the heck have you been?! LOL! Yeah, I know I'm doing good, I just don't want to get to comfortable or over confident and start majorly slacking like I always do... But I'm very proud of myself :) How are you? I'm stopping by your diary to check on ya...;)

Aww thanks Karl... Okay, I'm convinced... I'm so doing the weights!!! I'm already bulky in fat, so if I bulk a little but it's muscle and this jiggly shit starts disappearing, I can deal with that :) Starting tomorrow... well actually today, I'm doing this!!!

June 2, 2009... OOPs, I almost forgot to actually track in my diary... I did really low on my calories today... only 1216 cal.s... The thing was I was craving beer... Budlight baby!!! So I didn't eat that much so that I would have some calories to spare for my 3 beers... Well after all was said and done, I put everything in fitday and I was really low... I don't feel hungry or deprived, so I'm just going to assume it's okay, but it was wierd. My calories have never been that low... Here's what I ate today...
Tuna sandwich on whole wheat bread with 1 tbs mayo, 3 pickle chips
12 wheat thins
3 budlights
a very nice salad with lettuce, tomato, cucumber, red onion, 2 TBS of Ranch dressing, 2.5 oz turkey, and 1.5 oz beef steak in it.
Okay, I guess it wasn't really that much, but I didn't really feel too hungry anyways... Anyone else do that sometimes? Hmm... I guess tomorrow I'll just put everything into fitday before I eat it and then I'll know i'm on track if I stick to that... That seemed to work better. I just like eating what I want to eat and when I want to eat it, so that's why I stopped doing that, but my calories have been a little whacky lately... from the 1200's to 1800's. I think maybe I need to set a solid balance and stick with that... On another note though, somedays I feel hungrier than others... my son used to do this all the time and I had asked his pediatrician at children's hospital about it because sometimes he would eat alot and then some days he wouldn't really touch food... I thought it was wierd, but his pediatrician said that's the way people should eat... that if we all listened to our bodies instead of thinking we have to eat around the clock or a certain amount everyday there wouldn't be all the obesity in the world and we'd all be our ideal weights and healthy... That's pretty much what I've been doing is eating just when I feel hungry and eating just enough to make me feel satisfied, not stuffed like I used to. Why I couldn't do this years ago is beyond me, but I don't know... Anyone else heard of this or was she the only one who voiced this? What do you guys think? Okay I'm so rambling already... lol. I'm going to go and check in on some diaries and try to get some sleep. So until next time... :seeya:

Slacking up

OOh, I definately know what you mean about slacking. Back in 2005 I lost 30lbs and got too comfortable I guess. I was 180! *sigh* I wish I was 180 now, but the way things are going, maybe by New Years.

I've read that for women, when it comes to toning, reps are more important than weight. so if you are doing 12 reps and it's easy for you, increase to 16, 18 etc... Or until fatigue. Maybe you could look that up and get some more info, I suck at giving info lol.

Good Luck.

Oh, and just for the record?

Athletic girls are hot, okay? The hell with those skinny little stick figure chicks. Give me a woman with nicely toned and solid legs over one of them any day!

I always get worried when someone says they haven't felt hungry and are eating really low calories. What happened with me is when I cut my calories down to under 1500 I stopped losing weight, I was never hungry. Well I'd get hungry but the feeling would pass quickly.. maybe 3-4 mins and it didn't come back. It got to where I was forcing myself to eat just to get enough food in. I did some reading and raised my calories to 2000 and the weight started dropping again and has been going down ever since.

The only other thing is that 1200 is the lowest they say is healthy for a women to go so that doesn't leave you anywhere to go as you lose weight. From the bmr calculators it seems you go down about 50 cals for every 10 pounds you lose.

Just some food for thought tho. everyone's different, I just don't want anyone to get stuck like I did. It was really annoying to be eating so little.. working out so hard and not losing lol.

Yeah, I'm trying that here in a few minutes, I'm going to use my 5lb weights and just do about 6 reps of 10 to start... we'll see how that goes, I don't want to overdo it since I haven't lifted for so long and get too sore... lol.. That sucks cuz then you can't do it again for a few days and then you're afraid to do it cuz you don't want to get to that ugly sore feeling again, so I'll just try to listen to my body n see how it goes.. Yeah, I had done the same, I had gotten down 24 lbs, then I started getting too comfortable and gained it all back but 5 lbs! LOL! Man that pissed me off!!! Noone to blame but me though... Thank you for your advice and you were right girlie...

Oh yeah, definitely, I don't want to get twig skinny, I've always enjoyed being thick.. I used to weigh like 155, which is almost considered overweight for my height and built and all, but I was solid and thick in all the right places... I think it's so unattractive when women are too skinny, there's nothing to them... :) Thanks for re-enforcing that though, I don't think alot of women think that men like a little meat on a woman...

Thank you Solty, I appreciate that because I thought something was wrong with me, but now that I know I'm not the only one who's went through this, I don't feel like such a freak... lol. So I'll try to keep my cal.s up to at least 1600, I think that might be a good starting point... It's a lil more than half of what i was eating before... Plus I noticed I'm not moving things... if ya know what I mean.. as good and I think it's because i'm not feeding myself enough calories to go regularly... Right now, I'm only at 1262 calories for the day... I don't know what I'm going to do because I'm not hungry and nothing looks good to even try to nibble on to add a few more calories... ah well, better cal.s tomorrow I guess. I'm curious, what causes you to not feel hungry like this? Usually I can grub some food down, obviously or I wouldn't be as big as I am now... now all of a sudden, it's like no way in hell do I want to eat!!! I don't get it! I'm going to have to google it because i'm curious... :)

Your body goes into a conservation mode. It's a natural defense mechanism to deal with hunger in starvation situations. It slows your metabolism and starts trying to conserve fuel and store it. This is why I always try to eat a little bit more on days that I exercise compared to the rest days. A calorie deficit too big will trigger your body's adaptive defenses into a starvation reflex, thus no weight loss.

Okay... so I bulked up my calories last night to 1421 calories... I ate a blueberry bagel with strawberry cream cheese... maybe not the best choice, but it could have been ALOT worse!!! Rich has chocolate in the house again... URGHHH! I didn't want to eat any of that since it was kinda late... so I settled for the bagel instead... Thank you Karl and Lilly for all of the tips and encouragement... I will try to keep my calories up a lil more and I did stretch before I did my weights... Damit!! I am so out of shape... those lil 5 lb weights f***in burned the shit out of my arms!!! LOL! Good thing I only did those 6 reps of 10... We'll see how I'm feeling later... LOL! I did the butterfly movement, the one where you bend over to one side and pull up... don't remember what they're called... and the ones where you go straight up with your arms out in a Y kind of shape... hmmm... I guess I should learn the terms of these work outs.. haha... I remember how to do them, just can't remember the names...
Okay, so I decided... this is kinda dumb... but I didn't measure my whole body in the beginning, just my waist... so I decided to measure everything now... so my waist had started out at 52"
Here are my measurements now...
Chest: 49.5"
waist: 49.5" ... down another .5 inches since Saturday :)
hips: 48"
arms: left- 18" right- 17.5"
thighs: left- 26.5" right- 28"

My weight today is: 250 lbs!!! ... down another 3 lbs since Saturday :) I'm not going to change my ticker until Satuday though... that's my official weigh in day... so this was just a overall measurement of my body as of today... I'm going to do this at least once a month... hope those numbers start dropping.. O yea... Anybody got any tips on how to get a butt? Lol! It might sound funny, but I have no ass and I look funny... the lil bit I did have was all fat and now that's gone too, I want to start building a nice one, I know working it out can only build so much, but hey something is better than the nothing I have now! Thank you in advance for the tips...

Sounds funny huh? So you could imagine how much of a crooked apple I am!!! :smilielol5: LOL! I was like whoa... that can't be right, but I measured, remeasured, and then had my husband do it.... thought maybe I wasn't doing it right.. and yep! Those are my measurements... UGHHH! I can't wait for those numbers to drop more... Well, I'm going to try to go eat some breakfast and clean the house... today's my orientation at my college... gotta get my books today too... I start next week :hurray:
:seeya: Natasha

:) You're so awesome, girl!! You're doing so well!! :)
:hurray:cheering for ya!!

Thank you Annie for stopping by.... And it does feel so good.. I'm so proud of me *patting myself on the back* :hurray: Okay... so I did 1385 calories today... Not too bad... I decided I'm just going to listen to my body... I'm going to eat when I feel like I'm hungry instead of pushing for a certain amount of calories... Certain days I feel really hungry and other days I don't... When I make myself eat when I'm not hungry to fill in those calories I don't feel well, and feel like my body's telling me to just STOP!!! After reading a few more tips and a few diaries... I think this is the plan I'm going to stick to... I'll make sure I keep them over 1200, and no more than 1800, but not going to just force food down... I feel good today.. I did my orientation... Man, my Anatomy and Physiology book is huge.. Swear it has to be 10 lbs! LOL! I'm so excited.. my first day is Tuesday :) Wish me luck, I know it's going to be hard! I'm so so happy about my lost lbs and inches today... It's freaking awesome... I'm going to do some lunges and weights later, trying to build muscle and some buns... LOL! Well, I'll check in again later to see how everyone else is doing... gotta drop in on some diaries and I'll probably check back in here to see if anyone else has posted... :seeya: Natasha

Buns = Glutes = squats, deadlifts, rack pulls...

These are compound lifts that work a bunch of different muscles at the same time so they are good for your body all around, also they use big muscles and require a fair bit of energy to do.

Caution: all of the above require good form. You have to pay attention to how you are doing them so that you don't hurt yourself. The best thing to do is to start out with body weight, then go to just the bar and finally start using plates. Alternately, there are also some that use dumbbells and such to work the same muscles. I like this site for therir descriptions and the fact that they list the exercise next to the muscle group it works (BTW, it would be good to look at in concert to your A&P class). ExRx (Exercise Prescription) on the Net

Steve, the Personal trainer also has a website, and he has a bunch of instructional youtube videos out there that give good instructions on form. I think if you search youtube for troutman81 you'll find videos of his exercises.
