My weight loss program idea

Hi!

My name's Raj, this is my first post on this forum so nice to meet you folks :) I used to hang around the weight watchers forums but I think I like this one better.

Well, it's almost 3am here and the reason I'm up this late is because I'm excited about an idea I had and I couldn't get back to sleep... I wrote a program called "LifeTracker" in my spare time, basically it lets you enter the foods you eat each day and the exercise you do, and it keeps track of calories, protein, fat, and various other info. For example, in my case I aim for a 1400 calorie diet, and it automatically figures out what ratios of nutrients I should have. Each day you can enter your weight, and it can create graphs or charts so you can track your progress. I have used this program myself for a long time and lost 60 lbs, and my family has started to use it as well. It's also been really useful for me as a vegetarian, because I can use it to make sure I'm getting enough protein and calcium (easy to overlook if I'm not careful).

The bad thing about the program though is that it doesn't automatically know, for example, that a Healthy Choice Macaroni and Cheese is 290 calories. You have to fill out that information yourself. Once you've filled out the nutrition info for a food once though, the program saves the info so you never have to look at the nutrition label again.

Anyway, today I had the idea of possibly revamping the program and adding lots of features, and then trying to sell it online. I'm not greedy and I would rather help people out with this program than try to rip them off, so I don't think I would make it very expensive. I'd like to just give it away for free and encourage people to donate, but given the choice I don't think many people would donate, and I could really use some money since I'm pretty broke... One thing I could do is offer a money back guarantee so that way hopefully people are satisifed. If someone manages to lose 20 pounds or something, I'm sure they'll think it was worth the $10 to buy the program. On the other hand, if they don't lose any weight- no problem, they just get their money back.

So, I was wondering what some of the people on this forum think about the idea. Would something like this be useful? Would you actually buy it if it were $10, and if not then what would be a reasonable price? Also if there are any features you'd wish for out of a weight loss program, I would greatly appreciate it if you might have any good ideas or suggestions.

Thank you very much!

Raj
