i'm starting my weight loss diary today, hoping it will motivate me even more to start losing and keeping off weight. and the main goal for me is to stop comfort eating on all this junk food!!

i have approximately 40 pounds to lose. i would like to be slimmer in the next few months.
i weigh 145 pounds (i think, haven't weighed self...), 31 inch waist, 39 inch hips, 36 inch bust. i would like to be a size 12 in the next few months.

as regards "junk food" itself, i've decided NOT ban it from my life(that's just not realistic for me), but basically cut down on how much i eat in the day.
hopefully i can start a healthy excersise plan aswell- but right now i'm a bit confused about that. i may need to browse this forum a lot more for excersise tips.

day 1.
what i've eaten today

  • 1 medium slice of pepperoni pizza
  • glass of water
    • 15-20 crackers
    • 1 small packet of crisps
    • 5 thin turkey slices
    • 2 more glasses of water
    • 1/2 a large chocolate bar (400 calories, or more)

Welcome back St Heavy.

I think if you want to beat comfort eating, you may have to deal with your emotional issues. And also find other ways to respond to emotional upsets as they happen.

I think you have to be quite strategic about your eating to avoid too much junk food. I will be interested to see how you go.

With regard to exercise, it doesn't really matter what sort you do though its a good idea to mix it up if you can.

What confuses you about exercise?

I'm gonna consult my book and tell you your healthy weight range. 123 - 156 pounds. You will be very slim at 123 but still not putting extra stress on your organs and such. So aim for that.

Well walking is a good place to start. Its fairly hard to injure yourself from walking and it helps build up fitness. It raises your heart rate but not so high that you might keel over. After a bit you can start running if you like. Just gradually build up endurance. When you run you don't have to run fast. Just start slow. Even for walking, buy yourself some good shoes. Do'nt go with the fashion brands, get a known sports brand. I wear Asics, New Balance are also good. Get fitted up in a shop.

There are so many sports you could go for. Just brainstorm a bit and try something new if you can afford to. Sport does cost money and sometimes quite a lot of moeny but when you are doing activities you enjoy, its really great. Once i took up triathlon and that was when i was always a bit scared of riding a bike. Triathlon taught me how to ride a bike better. I like being competitive so to be able to go in races was a lot of fun. And i like swimming.

Or you do like a team sport. Most team sports involve a lot of running.

Or do you want to do an adventure sport like rock climbing or sea kayaking.

what i am getting at is its not all about the gym.

If you want to do a class, some gyms have them it seems. Various exercise classes such as pilates and zumba and so on. Try things. Then there's yoga which i love.

I do an adventure sport that fits in with my love of travelling. I go cycle touring. Though cycling is not something i do at other times because our roads are so bad. When i am on tour, i get pretty fit. But many people can't do long tours and they just go away for weekends.

There are so many ways to take up sport that are enjoyable and can enrich your life. So keep an open mind and just try things.

great help, thanks!

What kinds of foods do you enjoy eating and help make/ keep you full? I highly recommend porridge for breakfast- it's incredibly filling and can be really nice either on its own or with some fruit (I have berries, which are a very low calorie hit).

Are you using or are you interested in using a calorie calculator? That should make things easier to track, and give you an idea of where you're going wrong. Also, are you measuring/ weighing your food (ideally weighing)? This will make a big difference to the accuracy of your diet.
