My right shoulder is hanging down!

Hi all, I'm a new member.

For the past 8 months since I injured my Right shoulder (Football Injury), it has been hanging down. It is very noticable and at times embarrasing because I have somewhat of a muscular upper body, (combination of a little baby fat & weight training - 6"1 190, I'm 17 ).

I completed the Physio for about 2 months immediately after, and now I'm just following an all-around workout schedule (Tuesday-Pulling, Thursday-Pushing, Saturday-Legs). [Mon,Wed,Fri, I do alot of pushups, stretching and a shoulder shrug exercise (bring shoulders to ears, drop and repeat) that I was taught while doing physiotheraphy]

But still, my right shoulder improvement has been minimal, and my doctor recently said it should be fine In another year - I'm not sure what to think... he told me that 8 months ago too... while showing off to his colleages about never seeing anything like this before. I'm a little bit uneasy about him... his advice was "keep working at it" - I was looking for something specific, but, is this what I need to do?

I'm anxious to know if you guys & gals know of any exercises that can really improve my posture and strenthen my right Deltoid. More reps? Less Reps? What are some excercises that will definetely help? I might be doing something wrong right now?

Please help, thanks in Advance.

what was the diagnoses of the injury...??

was it nerve damage because this would have caused the atrophy and depending on when it is fully healed you wont be able to build up the muscles 100%.

Your physios heading you on the right track, his building your upper trapezius and deltoid to try and elevate your shoulder to the corrct level. Your problem is that the muscles are smaller and weaker and have probably been stretched. so it will take time...

Yep, I did the nerve test but it the neurologist said the right side was not a serious nerve injury. The damage was apparently, minimal so the electronic shock test+ sticking a small pole in my shoulder test?, came up negative. My shoulder looks terrible though.

Is the best I can do just continue working out? and, wait for it to heal naturally?

Or could I speed up the process? Are more reps and less weights better in my situation? Moderate lifting, Moderate reps (8-10) or, Less Reps more weight (maybe build mass on the right)?

it's really hard to say without knowing the diagnosis. What was your physical therapist treating you for? Are you done with PT?

If you're not confident with your doc, go to an orthopeadic doc who specializes in this sort of thing.

Did you get an MRI? Is it a rotator cuff injury? Did the shoulder sublux or dislocate?

I don't feel comfortable suggesting any exercises until I know what it is that's wrong. If your shoulder is literally hanging down to the point that it's noticible, it sounds like a pretty significant injury; a shoulder dislocate that's not back in, some major ligament damage or stretching...does it still hurt?

No its not a dislocation.

If you type in waiters tip position thats to do with what your talking about, except yours is just on one side.

If i were you just do what the phsyio says, if you dont think its good then try a better one. id do moderate though so you can build it up. Essentially it depends on when the nerve heals the test he did on your shoulder was testing for the axilliary nerve.

I'll definitely try to find the exact diagnosis, but I think Matt is right. It was not a dislocation, or a rotator cuff injury. I typed in "waiters tip position" and that is what's happened to my right side.

I do remember them saying there was some nerve damage (not extensive), but it was mostly damaged tissue.
