My Recovery from Obesity

Hey Don - You are doing fantastic. Sooo close to 100 lbs. Hope your cramps have eased up on you and that the cravings are no longer harassing you.. ;) such pests they are!

Anyways, keep trucking on my friend. As always you are such an inspiration.

Helloooo all!

I'm still here. :D

Popped in a couple times to update, but just didn't feel it. Sorry for the absence, and I do appreciate your checking in on me.

It's been a sluggish few weeks, due partly to burnout from the intensity with which I have been committed to this process since starting, but also, I think, due to other factors like the steroids, the chicken fortress, and the unseasonably warm heat we had around here. I hadn't quit my process, but I was blurring the lines between OK and NOT OK... eating a bit too much salty stuff occasionally, drinking less water occasionally, not hitting the bike occasionally, etc. Oh, I told myself lots of good reasons why it was OK to blur the lines, but the reality is that the difference (for me) between losing 3-5 pounds per week and losing 1-2 pounds per week is THAT level of intensity. As the expression goes, "the devil is in the details." I still ate pretty well and exercised some, but not at the same levels.

The end result is that I weighed in at 364 this morning, down 93 pounds, and about 3 lbs from a week ago, and 10 lbs on the month of May. That's good, but won't you don't see is that I have been up and down all week long. I think that I am feeling a surge of energy and focus coming on again, though. So hopefully I will start cranking up the machine again soon. I have hit the bike three nights running, added weights, and am eating right for the last 24 hours.

My Thursday Goals are: Eat greener and lighter as the day progresses, drink 5 liters of water, NO salt, NO simple carbs, and No refined sugar.

My May Goal for May is: Lose 7 more pounds to hit the 100 pound marker.

My 2013 Goal is: To lose the next 100 lbs.

That last one may be a reach, but I think it is doable. That is seven months to lose 100 lbs, an average of 14+ pounds per month. To date, I have averaged just shy of 20 pounds per month over the last 5 months and am on track for about 17-18 pounds this month. Using a model that predicts a 1% Loss of Weekly Starting Weight I will weigh about 262 pounds on 12/31/2013. The problem with that is that I have been averaging about 0.8-0.9% Weekly Losses for the last month, so I need to get my ass in gear. My expectation is that I will need to add a LOT of additional cardio/strength training in the coming months.

I need this as a challenge.

You guys rock! Thanks again for all the support you've shown.

Yay!! You're back!! :)

We all have these ups and downs so it's not like you're alone - ever! You still had a good overall weight loss and now you're only 7lb away from 100lb total. So exciting! Use that as your motivation to get through the rest of May to hit your goal. You can do this. I know you can! :)

Thanks Mandy! I may PM you my phone number so you can call me and tell me to get my butt in gear if I drop out for too long! :)

If your bad week is -3 pounds than you haven't had a bad week. All the ups and downs and frustrations are real, but the end result is great. Keep that bigger picture in mind and don't overdo things.

Stick with it buddy. Let's both go for -7 by the end of May. It will get you past 100 lost and me out of the 3teens and you off my signature.

Welcome back!!! :)

You are still doing freaking awesome! Keep it up - we are with you all the way! In the end it's so gonna worth it!

Glad to see you're back!
I have also had those moments where I blur the line. Like last week, I would eat well and within my cals, then I would say I was just gonna have a teaspoon of honey for just a taste. Of course it would end up being more like a good tablespoon (which is over 60 cals), plus a nibble here and there, but since they were just tastes/nibbles I told myself it wasn't enough to worry about or record, but those things add up!! At the end of the week I started to at least log my honey splurges and not nibble anything else. This week I am no longer having my honey splurges.
So I definitely agree with not blurring the lines, however watch the intensity too. You don't want to burn out and you want this to be sustainable for life!!

Honestly Don, I'm not at all worried about you dropping out for too long. That's just not you. You're too motivated and you'll get yourself back up with no problems. We all have those moments. We are human afterall. You know what you're doing. You're busting your butt to get to your goals. You will be just fine! :)

Thank you all!

Mystic, this is exactly what I was talking about. I know it sounds silly or maybe like no big deal to some people, but it's this compromising within a day that turns a great day into an average or bad day on the scales. I have been doing well for almost five months because I have managed to minimize these incidents. Lately, it's been a bit tougher to be so strict.

-----

Today's Weigh-in: Down 1.0 lbs for a total of 94.0 lbs. I had a better day yesterday. Still blurring the lines a bit, but not as bad as before. I ate pretty well... green and lean. Hit the bike last night for 8 miles. Did some weights (bench, curls and O/H press).

Playing with the numbers today, I saw that I missed a milestone in the last few days: I have lost more than 20% of my starting weight since January 5th. I'm at 20.6% today!

Also, I'm almost done with the Chicken Fortress. I'll post pics today or tomorrow.
