My personal project and life time goal!

Hey my name is Abbie, im 21 and iv always had an issue with my weight. For as long as I can remember iv always been the larger one of the group and I was a big child. My parents put me on diets when I was little but with little success because my mood swings were awful and it depressed me a lot growing up. By the age of 13 I was already in size 14-16 clothes and it seems like every year iv gone up a dress size or two. Im 21 now, a size 24 and I started my journey around a week ago when I weighed myself after a year and noticed that I was a whopping 18st10! Last time I checked I was 16st so to see that figure really hit home. I find it difficult to stay awake and I find moving around difficult because I always end up with a lot of pain in my legs or I feel out of breath.

My aims of my project is to achieve a weightloss every week, I know sometimes I won't manage this but I feel if this is my goal then I will keep pushing myself in the right direction. Today I was weighed again and iv lost 3 pounds which is great news so all I need to do is keep pushing myself to my goal. Iv decided my first goal is 16st, then I will evaluate my goals once that one has been reached :) Thinking of treating myself to a little shopping trip every stone I lose to keep myself motivated :)

Hi Abbie! I just converted stones to pounds and saw that 18st = 252lb. My starting weight aka my heaviest was 250lb and I was in a size 26 pair of jeans. So we had very similar starting points. My journey started about 2 years ago, BUT I had MANY set backs and in theory should be well ahead of where I am right now. Kind of kicking myself in the butt for relapsing, but it's in the past. I'm here now and moving on.

It sounds like you've got a really positive attitude which is important. It's true that some weeks you may not lose as much as you'd like, just keep pushing. Also as far as exercise, don't push yourself too hard - I'm talking to the point of burning yourself out. Just do the best you can and you'll see your stamina increase over time. Find something fun to start (I found Taebo which I love) so exercising is more of a joy than an obligation. So happy to meet you and I wish you the best on your journey! :)

Thank you Mandy, I think if I was going to enjoy any kid of exercise it would be walking as I never had to use public transport as I used to walk everywhere but I guess I got lazy and stopped doing that which is probably one reason my weight is as it is. Im hoping to get to 200 pounds as iv always been curvy and I like it that way I just don't want to be as curvy as I am so 59 pounds to go!

I re-discovered biking and have really enjoyed that exercise and look forward to it. It's not casual strolling around on the bike, though, it's really going after it hard and fast. It's really worked well for me. Something to consider.

Good to hear about your early success!

Having good, realistic in-between goals is important in my opinion, so I think you are doing good in that regard. BugDude is quite right in his advice for biking - it's a really good exercise (even when you aren't going at extreme speeds), and exercise is important. The nice thing about biking is that it is (as far as I know) not as tough on your joints and knees since they don't have to carry your weight.

Thanks for the positive posts, once I have been paid ill look into getting some exercise equipment because I did enjoy bikes at the gym, also enjoyed the cross trainer for a 20 min duration but couldn't really manage the treadmill. I'd prefer to have my own equipment so I can exercise in my room :) thanks for the advice guys :)

I'm just like you! I much prefer to exercise in the privacy of my own home. Where I know nobody is watching me. Where I know I'm not being judged or criticized. Where I can go at my own pace. With the exception of walking outside, all of my exercise is done in my room. Either walking on the treadmill or doing Taebo.
