My new journey begins, I need your help

226 lbs. 1/2 pound off my lowest so not a big deal. I'd like to get to 190 so we'll see how clothes fit, how I look in the mirror etc. I'm more basing it on that than an actual set bodyweight. When I was in good shape in college I weighed 190 so that's why I set that as my goal.

Dang, my chest is freakin' sore. I tried to hit it from all different angles on Sunday and it must have worked. Its sore pretty much everytime I move my arms. My tri's are sore too so it looks like I'm doing something right. Hopefully my back and bi's will be just as sore tomorrow. I tried to increase the weight on those exercises too.

Gotta go pack my lunch. Sandwich, reduced fat wheat thins and an apple. I'll pick up a diet pepsi, Fuze slenderize or bottled water while I'm out and about. Will post later. See ya, Greg

Pretty good day so far. It's one of my days off so I just worked and that's about it. I had a bowl of cinnamon life for breakfast, 2 strawberry fig newtons and some low fat wheat thins for a snack. I ate a turkey sandwich on whole meat for lunch. I got home early and was in a mood to eat everything in the house. I ended up only eating 3 bites of macaroni and cheese as I was making dinner. The kids wanted meatloaf so I made a huge meatloaf so they'd have leftovers. I ate 1 piece meatloaf (probably 4-6 ounces), 3/4 cup green beans and maybe 1/2 cup mashed potatoes (no gravy). My wife brought home a huge tin of chocolate cookies from work. They are really small. I ate 3 because they looked really good. They were alright but not near as good as I thought they'd be.

My biceps are pretty sore today and I can feel my back a little bit. Tomorrow is my 2nd rest day so I've got to stay on top of my diet again. I'm doing legs, shoulders and traps on Thursday. It's going to be a really busy weekend so I'm planning on working out chest and tri's Friday instead of Sunday, then back and bi's Tuesday instead of Monday. I'd still be able to not miss a workout while being around the house for the Christmas weekend. Take care and I'll post again tomorrow. See ya, Greg

Good job man, keep up the hard work... you are making nice progress.

Btw if you ever end up with another typo again that you don't notice till after you post you can always go back and edit. You probably already know but just making sure hehe. I'm talking about when you accidentally put in 125.5 instead of 225.5, you can hit edit and change it whenever if you want.

Thanks for the info Cnat. Don't know why I didn't edit it just decided to include it in another post.

Today has gone good so far. My chest is much less sore but its still a little tight. My biceps are still pretty tight, especially when i extend my arms all the way down and stretch them out.

Food has been kind of screwy today. I started off OK and ate a pretty good sized bowl of raisin bran with probably a cup of 2% milk. I ran off without packing my lunch so I thought I was in trouble. No problems really though. I was at a customers and was hungry so I ate a soft serve ice cream cone. When I got home I ate a piece of meatloaf, probably 3-4 ounces. We are having tacos for dinner and I'm using lean ground beef. I go to the store Friday and am going to pick up a few low fat alternatives to the usual things we have around the house. I'll pick up some low fat or no fat shredded cheddar cheese, low fat/no fat margarine and some skim milk. I'm the only one in the house that can stand low fat items so I won't have to worry about them staying around. I've already got low fat salad dressing and hellmans light mayo in the fridge. Its amazing the number of calories that you can save by making little changes like I just mentioned. I already drink diet pop so thats not a problem. I gotta stay "good" because I said I'd post pics on Christmas day. Hell, I'm going to the store now before dinner to pick up the no fat cheese, margarine and skim milk. It really feels good to be motivated again. See you all later, Greg

Good decision by me, lol. I got back from the store and started the ground beef for tacos. I finished that and thought "what can I make that is decent?". I put about 2 cups lettuce in a bowl, added 3-4 ounces of the taco meat, 1 tbsp. fat free cheese, 1 crumbled up taco shell (probably a poor choice) and then added salsa for a fairly low fat dinner. The further I get into this I realized all the small things I used to do to be able to eat a variety of foods while keeping everything fairly healthy. See y'all tomorrow.

I may get a chance to sneak in another workout here in a bit, we'll see. Take care, Greg

I work for Sysco foods

There are a few of these nationwide right? Big buildings with a ton of refrigerated trailers? I believe there is one opening near my hometown next year (Indiana) and I am hoping that I can possibly get my garage setup and be there goto service team. Of course that is a hope.

Yes Tony, pretty much each state has their own Sysco "house". Around here there is Sysco Oklahoma, Sysco Arkansas, Sysco Dallas(a city, I know), Pegler Sysco (Nebraska) etc. Good luck getting on board. They area a great company with great benefits. Take care, Greg

Got to the gym late today so I did light weights with little rest between sets. 4 sets squats 135x12, 3 sets leg extensions 12 reps each, 3 sets leg curls 12 reps each, 3 sets seated calf raises 12 reps, I supersetted traps and front raises (you guessed it 12 reps each), side raises 2 sets 12 reps each, rear laterals 12 reps each. I hopped on the bike for a little over 20 minutes then hit the treadmill for another 20. I hit everything I needed to hit and got out of there only 15 minutes later than usual.

Diet was "challenging" today. Started off OK with a large bowl of raisin bran. No snack. Had my boss riding with me today. We ate mexican food for lunch, beef burrito, rice and beans. I had a few chips and salsa but tried to watch the amount. After the gym, I got home and ate 2 pieces of sausage with 2 pieces of whole wheat toast. I passed on the biscuits and gravy. Not the best choices but the amounts were within reason. I'll be back by myself tomorrow so things will be back to normal. I am down a total of 13 1/2 pounds but still have a long ways to go. I'll keep you all posted. Pictures are coming Christmas day. See ya later, Greg

Sundays - Chest and Tri's, I vary my exercises but usually focus on around 10 sets for each bodypart. I try to really wear them out since I only work them out once a week. They get plenty of recovery time.

Mondays - Back and bi's, pretty much the same. 10 sets of each, exercises vary. I blow them out pretty good them let 'em rest.

Thursdays - Legs, traps and shoulders. Pretty much the same thing. I try to blast them pretty good then let 'em rest.

Each day I workout, I follow the workout with around 20 minutes of stationary bike followed by about 15 minutes of treadmill. I'm really wanting to add one more workout day in each week. If so, I'll either split out legs one day, traps shoulders and tri's the next. Or, I'll simply do the three workouts that I'm doing now and end up repeating one workout once a week (ex. Sun-chest/tri's, Mon-back/bi's, Thurs-legs/shoulders/traps, Fri-chest tri's). The next week I'd start with back/bi's etc. and repeat whatever follows. They won't always be on the same day but I'll still have plenty of rest days along with an extra day than I do now of aerobic activity.

I'll have to work it out with the wife but I'm sure we can come up with something. I'm in such a better mood when I workout and I'm so dang tired when I get home that I'm not hard to put up with. Heck, I'll get dinner ready to be put in the oven before I go to work and call the kids when I get to the gym, have them put it in the oven. She can do something to go along with it and I'll clean up when i get home. Heck, i don't care, just give me another day at the gym. So, thats what I've got going on now. We'll see how things progress. We'll see ya, Greg

Not at this point. I really like the idea of being able to "bomb" a couple of bodyparts each day. I don't feel like I could recover adequately if I switched to a full body workout. I used to work everything except legs twice a week and after a while just didn't make gains and starting getting little nagging injuries. Once I increased the intensity of my workouts and decreased the frequency that I worked each bodypart I made really good gains. We'll see what happens now. I'm only into about my 3rd week so I'm still getting used to being back in the gym etc. It may be something I look into in the future. What do you feel are the advantages?

Today was a disaster, LOL. Went to my folks house to open presents. I ate Chocolate chip cookies, peanut brittle, pizza. My MOM can cook like no other. I guess that's my "off" day for the week, hehehe. We're going to open presents in the morning with the kids. After that I'm off to the gym. Chest, tri's, bike and treadmill. I expect it to be dead at the gym so I can get in and get out. It's been a couple of days since I've been so I'm looking forward to it. I say I've got to be "good" because I plan on posting new pics on Monday morning. But, we'll see what tomorrow brings. I'm almost to the point of saying that I'll maintain my progress through the new year, bowl games etc. then get back on it after the bowl games are over. But, I'm not to that point yet. I still think I can lose a pound of two over the next week even with the bowl games. That'll just put me that much closer to my goal.

It's currently 4:09am and I've been wide awake for about an hour. I have no earthly idea why. I figured I'd come on here, look around, post about my awesome day of being out of control and then get back to bed. Not tired yet so guess I'll look around a little more. Take care and I'll post tomorrow night. See ya, Greg

Damn, I'm tired now. I went back to bed at 5:15am, slept for a couple of hours and my wife woke me up and there was no going back to sleep then. I had a great workout, chest/tri's, 25 minutes on the bike and 20 minutes on the treadmill. My legs are SHOT! After I biked, I put the incline up to 7% on the treadmill and actually jogged for a couple of minutes two different times. Like I said, my legs are shot. My chest and tri's are pretty tired too. I'll see how sore I am tomorrow and Tuesday. I'm going to wait to post pics until a full month has passed. Changes should be more obvious by then, especially with my eating the last 2 days. I can overcome my past few days of poor diet. I'm actually doing fair, I've been eating good at breakfast and lunch, just my evenings have been bad. Snacks and a few desserts at get togethers. But, overall I'm doing OK. I'm eating lunch with the in-laws tomorrow and that should pretty much end the festive eating for the year. Not posting until a full month has passed will give me another week to workout and diet until I post pics. Maybe I can be down to 220 by then, we'll see. Hope everyone has a great Christmas and New Year. I'll post either tomorrow or after my workout Tuesday. See ya, Greg

What a day! We did Christmas yesterday and had Christmas lunch at 1pm today. This morning about 8 my wife says "you've got time to go to the gym if you want instead of sitting around here all day". I don't sit well and she knows it. I'm guessing she knew I wanted to go and wouldn't have to put up with me going stir crazy, lol. So, I thought what the heck. It's my regularly scheduled workout day so I went and worked back and bi's. 1 guy in the gym when I got there, was by myself for a while and then 1 more guy came in as I was about to leave. Had a great workout. Rode the bike for 20 minutes and the treadmill for 10. About the same intensity on the bike and treadmill as yesterday but back to my usual times on each. I pushed it a little yesterday knowing my eating probably wouldn't be the greatest. I'll gradually increase my times but probably not more than 45 minutes total each day at the very most. I got home at 11:45 and still had plenty of time to shower and change for lunch. The wife is making dinner right now but I'm not hungry. I'm sure I will be hungry in a couple of hours. I'll eat something light then off to bed I go. This 24 hour access gym has been wonderful. I guess I'll workout on New Years also since its a regular day for me. I think the holiday eating is pretty much over. We don't make all the fudge, cookies, peanut brittle etc. so there isn't really much bad food sitting around. I'm taking it one day at a time but feel I've gotten through Christmas without much harm. Hope everyone has had a Merry Christmas. We'll talk to y'all soon. See ya, Greg

Got up and had to work for about 1/2 a day today. Ran off without eating breakfast. I called my wife on the way home and had her make me a turkey sandwich for an early lunch (about 11am). I bought my wife a gift certificate to get a tattoo so thats how I spent the 2nd half of my workday. We finished up at the tattoo studio and went to the grocery store and blockbuster on the way home. I was starving at blockbuster and hit the ice cream case, lol. I got an ice cream sandwich with 250 calories (80 from fat). That was pretty much my snack. I came home and made hamburgers for dinner. I had a hamburger patty, a few chips and a little french onion dip. Not the greatest choices but I stuck with small portions. Now there is actually food in the house so I can get back on the ball tomorrow. I've had enough sense to keep my portions moderate even with some of the poor foods I've been eating. My weight is still around 224 so I've maintained during the last week which I'm happy with. Tomorrow is my 2nd rest day then its back to the gym on Thursday for legs and shoulders. I'll check my weight in the morning and post about my eating tomorrow night. Take care and we'll talk to ya soon, Greg

Weighed 223.5 this morning. Thats the lowest I've been since I started so I'm heading in the right direction. I'm eating a bowl of cinnamon life cereal with skim milk right now. I need to fix a sandwich for later. I'll also take an apple, orange and some low fat wheat thins with me to munch on. I'm usually stuffed after the cereal (large bowl) so that is about it for my breakfasts. I've got to decide what to cook tonight. Its tough trying to please everyone but usually I can come up with something. Will post later if anything changes but definitely tomorrow after my workout. See ya, Greg

222.0 this morning. Total lost 16.5 lbs.

Diet fair today. Ate a few bad things but small amounts incorporated with a good breakfast and lunch, lasagna (1piece) for dinner.

Posting pics (for real this time) on the 3rd, 1st full month will be completed then. Would like to be down to 220 by then. Shouldn't be too hard, we'll see.

Worked legs, shoulders and traps today. Oklahoma State was on TV so I worked out while watching the game. Rode the bike 25 minutes and the treadmill for 25 minutes after the workout.

Overall a pretty good day. Will focus on diet, diet, diet until my next workout on Sunday. I need to stick maybe 1 "larger" meal in between now and next week to make sure I don't shut my metabolism down. Since I'm so close to posting pics I'll likely stick with good foods just eat a larger amount than usual at one of my meals. Like I said, we'll see what happens. Talk to y'all soon, Greg

Still 222 this morning which is fine. Raisin bran for breakfast today, mexican food for lunch (burrito, rice, beans, a few chips and salsa) then a small steak as well as a salad with light dressing for dinner. I was planning on grilling chicken but the chicken smelled bad so I took it back to the store and bought the steaks.

My legs are kind of sore from yesterday but they'll be fine by Sunday when I workout.

I took some "mock" pictures last night and they look pretty much like my 1st ones. I've lost 16.5 pounds and i guess I've lost it evenly everywhere because my proportions look pretty much the same. I have noticed my face is thinner, my clothes are much looser etc. So, I know its coming off I just don't see it as much as I thought I would. I've still got a long, long way to go so I'm not too worried, just kind of surprised.

Thats it for now. I'll post either tomorrow or Sunday after my workout. Greg

I bet I didn't weigh 222 today. I've splurged the last couple of days. Took today off and went deer hunting. Should have slept in and gone to the gym, no deer. Will have get back on track tomorrow. I've got a couple of things planned but I'll be back in the gym tomorrow afternoon. Will still take pics on Wednesday AM no matter what I weigh. That will be 1 month and will give me another couple of pics to go off of for the next month. My next goal is to be down to 210 by February 1st. Thats somewhere around 3 lbs per week which is very achievable. Thats it for now. Will post after workout tomorrow. Greg

Finally I've had a decent day eating. 2 pieces whole wheat toast for breakfast, a large apple about 10:30, Pulled pork sandwich at lunch with coleslaw that wasn't good so I didn't eat it. But, I chose it instead of fries. I ate a couple of pieces of pork roast for dinner and will probably eat some vegetables too. I expect since my splurging is over that I will be quite hungry for the next few days. I'll be eating breakfast, mid morning snack, lunch, maybe afternoon snack, then dinner to finish it up. I missed 2 workouts this weekend. I'll go to the gym tomorrow. Thursday my wifes dog is having eye surgery so that day is out. I feel more in control now that I've had a good day. We'll take it one day at a time and plan on posting pics tomorrow. See ya, Greg
