Hi everyone I'm Alexis! I'm 18 and here is my story! I've been heavy as long as I can remember. At age 15 I weighed in at about 259 lbs. I felt terrible and I looked terrible. When I was 14 I had been diagnosed with PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Disease) and Severe Acid Reflux. When I was 16 I was hospitalized with a bad liver and I was throwing up almost everyday from my reflux. At 17 they discovered my gallbladder was bad after I had not had much to eat for about 6 months. I now weigh 185 due to my illnesses, but I'm very unhappy about how I lost the weight. Now I am better. I take my medication everyday and can eat a lot... I have trouble losing weight and keeping weight off. I don't want to be back where I was... I want to at least be 135 in about 1-2 years. If someone can give me some suggestions on what I should do... I've been to dietitians and nothing has worked! Nice to meet you all!

you have to give people a chance to respond! it hasnt even been 2 hours since your first post, lol.

welcome to the board, i think you will find that most everyone here is going to tell you the same things the dietician did, assuming you had a halfway decent dietician. have to eat less calories than you expend each day, but within reason. that is probably the single most important thing to know about weight loss.

there is lots of helpful info on the board, read around and educate yourself. thats the quickest way to success.

My

Body is really weird though. I eat 1,000 calories a day. I don't exceed that. And I normally walk 3 miles and do weight training/yoga. This is everyday that I do this. Plus I work at bath and body works so I'm always at my feet at work. I still have trouble losing weight.. I don't know why..

Assuming that you are counting your calories correctly, and staying on track the majority of the time, i guess i have to wonder what you mean by "trouble losing weight". Are you not losing anything at all? or losing less than you think you should be? what is your expectation for weekly weight loss?

also, are you weighing yourself in consistancy? same time of the day, same clothes, same scale? are you in menstruation? (can also affect weight due to water retention, etc).

How long have you been eating only 1000 calories a day? if its been quite awhile, you might have downregulated your metabolism, since that is a fairly low number.

Also, you have had some pretty harsh health issues recently in your life. Perhaps you should speak with your doctor and see if any of your troubles could cause issues with metabolism, or maybe the medication you are taking has some side effects.

Basically, there is some variable that is not being taken into account. answer these questions, and lets go from there.

Well I've been doing it for a very long time. Ever since my surgery which was last year. My doctor said my metabolism is really bad, and he said even with exercise and dieting it may be hard to get it back to a normal running one. I'm not sure if the gallbladder effects weight loss. I know PCOS tends to make women heavier set who have it. I have asked about that and they said there is no real medication and they don't want to give someone at such a young age that. I don't get menstrual cycles much. When I do I'm usually bedridden and can't eat. I do weigh everyday once in the morning (around 6 am in my pjs) and sometimes in the afternoon (with no cloths on.) I always weigh less when I have no cloths on but I know thats why I do. The scales I use always fluctuate. At one moment I'm 180 and the next I'm back up to 185. The only time I find I lose weight is when I'm not able to eat... But thats only when I'm sick with my illnesses. I have tried herbal stuff. I was a vegan for 6 months about 1 year and a half ago and I still lost no weight. I'm wondering if there are any more medical conditions that cause this? I've never taken any sort of diet pills either. I don't really trust those. It's really upsetting me... Because I work so hard.. I'm a size 12 at 185... I'm not sure if thats what size women of my weight are... I just want to get down to the 140's.. And be around a size 5-6.
