My latest weight loss revelation

I have discovered the easiest possible way for me to lose weight. I've always hated having to keep track of every little morsel that I eat day after day. But, lately I've lost about 8 or 9 pounds over the past few weeks following one simple rule. Only eat my mother's cooking.

I absolutely hate my mother's cooking. Stringy roast beef, meatloaf, vegetable soup, chicken and yellow rice, mystery casseroles and other unappealing foods for a young man. Therefore, I only succumb to the bland nasty food if I'm really and truly hungry and even then I don't eat much of it. I used to opt for fast food, but cutting that out to maybe a few times a month and otherwise living off mother's "cuisine" has worked wonders!

Hehe. I can understand what you are saying, but honestly I don't believe in the long term eating food you don't like will be maintainable :) I do believe, however, that it is possible in the long term you will start to like your mother's food!

Or, here's an idea, why don't you cook once in a while? preparing food yourself can be a very rewarding experience ;)

^ I completely agree with the above. I think eating food you hate will just lead to a crazy binge somewhere along the line. I also think that cooking for yourself is potentially an answer. (I track everything I eat, but I suspect if you keep your food at a low calorie density you won't have to)

I totally hate cooking, and find it a lot easier to track my calorie intake with ready meals. I know they aren't the most healthy things, but I think there is much worse out there as well. And I know what I'm eating at a glance - no need to weigh and calculate and cook.

I agree, I don't think this will be maintainable unless you really do start to like the food. It may happen, you never know. I like the suggestion of cooking once in awhile. I didn't start cooking really until I moved out on my own in February of this year and have to say cooking a nice meal really is rewarding and sometimes quite a workout!

You may also want to be careful, you mentioned you only eat her food when you're really hungry and then don't eat much. Are you eating other meals? You need at least 1200 calories if your female and between 1500-1800 if your male to keep your body functioning correctly.

I'm pretty sure I'm eating enough.Although I'm not counting calories, I eat when I am hungry til I get satisfied, but not stuffed. Usually when I tried to eat 1500 or less I'd be constantly hungry all the time (male by the way). I think the big thing is that I have completely cut out fast food. That alone was a 2-3 times a week habit and I'm sure that makes a big difference. I used to scarf down a Big Mac meal large from McDonalds. With that and a large sugary soda that meal was around 1500 calories. I'd be hungry 2 hours later.

AThis made me laugh and feel bad for you all at the same time. My mothers cooking also sucks but I am pretty sure I would GAIN weight if that was all I ate. Lots of white pasta fatty meat and the like. Luckily I have my own family and do the cooking now.

I agree, your plan is probably not going to work long term but as long as you are getting sufficient calories then their is nothing wrong with it.

Hehehe... My mom used to make these really weird dishes on occasion. Most of her food I loved, but sometimes it was a guessing game between types of meat an body parts.

I think the biggest thing is to not eat fast food as often. Try adding some variety to what you do eat out, and perhaps you'll find something more healthy that's tasty, and you won't have to endure 'stringy roast beef'.

And hey, try making your MOM a Casserole sometime, and make it something you want to eat, like lasagna, or enchiladas, or something else. You can keep track of the calories better then, too. There are some delicious and lowish calorie meals you can find online that only take a couple of ingredients, and then eating won't be torture!

Good luck!

Hi I am new - but looking for a better way of losing weight - I have tried calorie counting, not eating (Bad), Atkins and south beach, self hypnosis (but it did help the jet lag!), carbs, fats - yes I have done them all like you all have I am sure and still looking - I don't cook much which does not help but I find that not drinking alcohol at all and drinking loads of water helps for a time but even that gets boring.

I travel a lot again this is no help, try to keep fit by running but that just builds up muscle. ebrowno8 said eating slowly - yes that helps a bit.

the best way I have found to losing weight without all of the calorie counting (which I have done, and am going back to) and the exercising (which I was very lazy with, and sometimes didn't do at all, gonna change that this go round) is simple .... sorry to shout.... PORTION CONTROL...

Guys, I ate what I wanted, when I wanted, just very smaller portions of it, really smaller portions, it was hard in the beginning, but it worked.. I didnot feel deprived, I ate foods that I loved and I still lost the weight.

For example, if I wanted pasta and some really high caloric sauce, I got out my handy 1 cup, measured, then ate, and if I was still hungry drank alot of water and filled myself up on leafy greens and salads, without the dressing.

After a while I didnt need the measuring cup, I could gauge how much one cup of the food was. Try it, it works and since I didnot feel deprived, I didnot binge or feel guilty.:Angel_anim:
