My Journey to "the gap"

Hi Everyone,

I decided to start a weight-loss diary, because I REALLY need the motivation. I've been trying to lose some weight for a while, and I lost about 9 kgs in 2 months.. then started losing motivation again. So today I've decided I need that kick in the butt to get to my goal weight!

I know as well that my personality type is *instant gratification* and also I have a REALLY short attention span (so much so, I start talking about completely unrelated things in the middle of convo's!), I do NOT specialise in long-term goals at all!

Anyway my vitals are as below -
I started in November 2007, I weighed 77kgs - (169lbs?) then. I'm now sitting on 68kgs (149lbs)
My height? 156.5cm (the .5 makes all the difference!)

GOALS

I want to be 50kgs to 55kgs ATMI'm 68kgs, but have been since just after xmas. I think I really lost motivation around xmas, and Chinese New year ... but that's just excuses!

WHY

  • I want to be healthier, and also I'm vain!
  • Also this may not be a good reason, but as I'm asian, my relatives and other asian people constantly talk about how fat I am. Everyone is so tiny :( I want it to be so I never have to listen to them complain!
  • Also the really big straw for me is, during summer your thighs chafe! I'm obsessed with getting 'the gap'. When my thighs no longer chafe, and I'm NOT in pain, I'll know I've reached my goal!

My De-Motivators

I know my major downfall is I eat absolute crap. This is why I havn't shifted any weight in ages. I'm also a big emotional eater. When I was really depressed I actually went up to 88kgs (my heaviest). But when I became happier the weight just feel off naturally. The biggest battle as well is getting the motivation to do something everyday, exercising that is. I also have problems eating well, cause I LOVE food, when I go to restaurants. I take ages to order cause I can't decide, then I browbeat my friends into getting what I want and sample their dishes!!

MY EXCERCISE AND FOOD

I'm currently doing 2 sessions of 1 hour Personal Training sessions, the only way I will excercise! Food..... is not so good, but this week I have started keeping a food diary, to try to make me accountable for the bad things I eat! I also noticed, that I am eating a sweet - cake/biscuit/chocolate a day. So I'm going to start cutting that out. I'm also trying to do this with some friends, 2 others. One girl who has already lost 13 kgs, and another who has lost 10kgs. We're going to start a 12 week challenge this weekend. Hopefully we'll see good results!

WHAT I WANT OUT OF THIS DIARY
I really would love tips and ideas on how to get motivated or to fit in some excercise during the day. MOST important are food tips, because I'm a student, and work two jobs, I find it really hard to eat regularly and fit in good food. I'm always grabbing food on the go, and BAD food. So would look forward to any ideas you guys have!

That's about it. I don't want this to get too long! Maybe I will get to post some photos and other things soon. I also love the trackers that so many other's have on their posts. Am thinking of getting one. But everyone here has motivated me so much, I think this is what I need! Wish me luck :)

Well, I think you're in the right place my dear! My name is Anke, I joined this forum last week, and it really does help! Look forward to hearing more from you soon!

OMG today, I had a personal training session with 3 other girls at 8am in the morning. It was really really really awful. At one point I actually felt a bit sick. I KNOW I pushed myself hard.

I think I really needed it though, it was hard for me to wake up because its soooooooooooo cold in the morning now. I had to wear gloves. And especially since I quit full time work, and went back to Uni full time this year. I've been sleeping in heaps. I just can't hack the early starts anymore.
Anyway lots of legwork, cause my trainer knows I want the 'gap' as well.
But the good thing was after that me and 2 other girls, went to brekky for my b'day. Yay me!

But I was a bit naughty, its my b'day! Our fave brekky cafe, has this thing called Eggs Begs, and its honey and wholewheat toast, with avocado, capsicum and spanish onion salsa. With two poached eggs, and a slice of bacon.
Doesn't sound too bad except for the bacon right? Except I had hollandaise sauce on top! OMG Hollandaise will be my downfall. I love that stuff. But I worked so hard this morning I feel like its kind of ok..... hehe

But tonight I have a James Bond party to go too. So... its going to be hard not to drink the alky. Gah! Maybe I'll stick to red wine. Tomorrow my family and I are going out to a nice restaurant for my b'day as well.. This is worrying as it means.......FOOD CHOICES! I'm worried I'll succumb and have a massive dessert.
Anyways we'll see.

This morning I had a weigh in as well. Which was great, but a bit disappointing. My friends weighed in with me and both had lost 1kg. Made me a bit dispirited, because I was the only one that hadn't lost anything. At the same time I was so proud of them, and happy for them. But also a little bit jealous inside. Is that mean of me? I know I just need to ramp it up! Oks. Next week I better lose 2 KGS!!

Not Again!

have had a horrible horrible weekend, in terms of food! am so angry with myself!

But it was fun whilst it happened :( But I ended up have FOUR cocktails, lychee martinis mmm. At the party, plus a mini muffin and one profiterole.
Then for my b'day lunch on sunday I had :

I shared the ENTREES

Escargot (just one tiny one, but it was soaked in butter herbs and breadcrumbs)
yellowfin tuna sashimi with beetroot and parmesan wafer
seared scallop with capsicum and tomato salsa (just one!)

Main -

I had sirloin steak (280gns) with Bearnaise sauce , one spoonful of scalloped potatoes, mushrooms and potato gnocchi. (2 spoonfuls) and chips.

Dessert (shared)

two spoonfuls of :
Raspberry and Rhubarb Creme Brulee
Apple, cinnamon muffin, with almond anglaise and ginger gelee.
One French coconut hot chocolate and one Madeleine.

It was aaaaaaaall so yummy. And so bad for me :(
And later in the vening my friend bought me
1 chocolate dipped churro, with a berry smoothie.

I feel like such a big pig.
I know it was my b'day but I really overate. I couldn't eat anything for the rest of the day cause I was so full!!!!

I have resolved to be good for the rest of the week. Also, my pedometer challenge with my friends start today!! I need to do minimum 15,000 steps a day I think, to kick this!

Good Intentions. I have to be strong.
This morning for breakfast I had one chicken satay skewer with salad leaves.

snack - One scotch egg (my mom made it) are they bad for you???

Just green tea and water so far.
MUST GO FOR WALK NOW!!!

Well, a scotch egg is a hard boiled egg (good), wrapped in sausage meat (okay...) covered in breadcrumbs (alright...) and deepfried (hmmm).

From my above analysis, 1 scotch egg a week won't kill you, but stay away from it as you would with most deep fried things.... and experiment trying to find a healthier way to make something similar.

Actually my mom does a scotch egg a different way. haha
She gets the hardboiled egg, and then in a separate bowl, she has lean beef mince, corn and a little bit of cheese with an egg yolk. Then she covers the egg in this mixture and bakes it for about 20 mins.

Is this healthier?
Anyway its yum. But I never knew people deep fried it! My mom has always made the eggs this way, so I always thought that it was the definitive. haha

For dinner tonight, I had some Pad Thai, and a little bit of red chicken curry with my friend over dinner.
Think the curry is a bit naughty..... But since I only had a little bit, I don't feel too bad about it.
Problem is I always eat out heaps with friends. Its such a social thing for me.
When I was trying to do no carbs, I swear I was the waiter's(ress) worst enemy!

Anyways I've tried to just go with the flow now, and just pick the healthiest on the menu, but not go to extremes.
I also ended up going for a half hour run, which made me feel teensy weensy bit good. But I think I overestimated my steps. Its really hard to rack up 15'000. Even with my run I did about 7000. Maybe I have to start catching public transport again......

Okay, that version actually sounds like the perfect protein punch snack. I'm gonna try that!

It's really yummy too. I have to prevent myself from eating more! haha

Sometimes she also adds peas (cause she uses the frozen mix). But yes. Thanks for keeping me company Anke! I know I'm not lonely now :)

Am trying to plan what I'm going to eat tomorrow..... Am going to see my trainer tomorrow, and I KNOW he's going to ask me what I ate hehe

Hehe, unfortunately... I AM MY PERSONAL TRAINER :)

Anyway, I started running last week, plus strength workouts at the gym, so hopefully this dedication will hold out!

I'm going grocery shopping today. I live with my parents, but the rent I'm supposed to pay them I usually spend on groceries for the house. That way I get to buy all the healthy stuff I want! This week my focus is on getting enough fruit veg and fibre in... really didn't eat enough of any of that last week!

I'm so excited, I just started belly dancing and there's a show in October... I get to go shopping and looking for my own outfit... glittery, sparkly jingly stuff yay!!!

haha i tried to do it myself too, but I have not enough motivation. Also My trainer is really cheap and costs the same as a gym membership for two sessions with him. He is also really excellent! I figure its more value for money because with the gym I might have 25% usage, but with him I have 100% usage haha. He just knows when to keep pushing which is great for me.

I live with my parents too! So often mom cooks for me, but she knows I'm trying to lose weight so she has been great and supportive and tried to fill the house with vegies. Its expensive trying to eat healthy! I use to buy all the healthy stuff I wanted to eat for only one week, and it added up to quite a bit!!!~

That is faboulous! i love Bollywood stuff, You should watch some bollywood movies to get inspiration! My friend did a belly dancing course as well, but her experience does not sound as good as yours! Where do you get stuff like that in South Africa?
Would you have to special make it?

Well, South Africa has big cities... so there are shops that sell these things. Mainly I'll go look at big oriental markets we have here. There I can buy my material cheaply to make things with... and find all kinds of other shiny things :)

So anyway, ye I had a personal trainer for a while, pretty cool coz they hold you accountable.

I joined a weight loss club, "Weigh-Less", about 6 weeks ago, so I'm going for my seventh weigh in tonight. So far I have at least lost a little bit every week, so hoping for the same tonight, hold thumbs!!

Ok yesterday, I did about 22'000 steps!
Yay!

But I only did about 7000 on Monday so I need to pick up my game. today was hovering round the 7000 mark as well :(

Anke its great that you can go shopping for that material. I took a sewing course but it is really hard for me to find the time and patience to keep going with it :(
I made a shirt and a skirt and one dress. haha

Food wise, yesterday I was quite good, I had some more of my mom's scotch eggs, and for dinner, I had a small bowl of pasta with bolognaise sauce, I admit I put Parmesan cheese on top. But I love that stuff! Also added yummy tabasco.
Today, I had grilled chicken with sundried tomato crust, and some boiled vegies, bad part was I helped myself to some lemon sauce (which is bad for you!)

But other than that lots of water and tea. Tonight I'm going to have Japanese for dinner, so I think I will be ultra healthy!

Yeah I love my PT he is ultra nice, and ultra hot (of course married with three kids). But he is so full of knowledge, and he doesn't mind when you call him to ask him questions etc.
I'm definately going for an extra long walk tomorrow, still time for me to fit in one more walk or so!

Wow!~ Well done :)
I'm sure you would've it sounds like you are doing all the right things!
Good luck~!

OMG that is great!
Makes me want to make sure I lose something at my weigh in! Mine is this Saturday so I'll let you know how it goes.
Seems like you are making really steady progress!
I just convinced my sister to go for a walk with me and it was great. I'm so happy she did, because actually its really late here. About 9.44pm and it gets really dark at about 5pm now cause we are in the middle of winter.
Anyway it can get really creepy, but it brings my step count for today to about 12'000. So I've averaged 15k steps so far per day.

I was reading another ladies diary, Omega, and she does min 30k steps per day!
That is so amazing, I've been trying to do that, but I can't fit it in! Its hard to find the time :(

Yeah, but remember that Omega (margaret, if I'm not mistaken) is no longer working and has dedicated her daily life to full time weightloss. Don't worry too much, the steps you're getting in is great! Isn't it an awesome feeling to know you could've just left the exercise, but you made a plan and did it anyway!

Good luck for your next loss, you can do it! Yeah, I've really been losing at a steady, comfortable rate... about 2.2 per week averaged out... it was more like 1 pound one week, 2.5 the next, another pound, etc. I've also been taking measurements.

Yeah my friend, when we last did a pedometer challenge did about 38k steps a day!
Which was a bit scary for me, don't want to go into this with a defeatist attitude, but I think she may take this pot! haha I will try! but.........

Yeah it was good, because my walk was very low key but helped me feel like I still did something. Tomorrow I'm going to try and fit in a run after work. I hope my boss doesn't want me to do overtime. There are a couple of big Marketing projects coming up, and I think the deadlines are due soon :(
One time I basically stayed there for 12 hours so that we could iron out the kinks in the surveys and reports. gah! Anyway am going to put my foot down and say no!

Also I have exams next 2 week, so I'm going to focus on -
1. studying
2. eating well
3. excercise

Tonight for dinner (Japanese) I had Teriyaki salmon with rice and one poached egg. Also had for entree 1 squid ball, one slice of sushi, and one fried eggplant with chicken and miso sauce. (was about a spoonful)
I did think I overate a bit, as my salmon was quite large. But they do the BEST salmon at this restaurant, I HAD to have it. But other than the fried eggplant, I think I was quite healthy.

That sounds like a lovely meal. I just bought us some salmon fillets, can't wait to eat em, can't remember the last time I had salmon!

Long Weekend!

Ok.. I didn't get a chance to post, because I stuffed up some stuff with my log in etc. Anyways long story short it was fixed by the lovely Jaclyn.

So yesterday I did heaps of steps! about 25k. Which I was really please about.. .except I agreed to go for a run with my friend at about 6.30pm.
I dunno if you know but it gets really dark around 5.30pm.
So we're running along and its been about 10 mins, I step in a pile of pine cones, under a tree. and WHAM! I fall on my face. Its like a banana peel moment!!!

I also ended up with an awful sprain. Which I'm a bit sad about because its going to cut down on my steps :( Also because my ankle swelled up heaps, I didn't end up going to Personal Training this morning.
I just called today a cheat day, really a bad move on my part. Had a chocolate brownie to wallow in my misery. But hey I can't be good all the time ok!

I've been good the whole week, so I think just today will be alright.
Its the long weekend, and I've got some activities planned, but I REALLY should be studying as I have exams next week :(

I havn't really done anything which is not good. I want to pass! Especially since these are my first exams in like 3 years. But its been a really stressful time. My parents are getting sued by these stupid people T_T but yeah.
Hopefully I will try to keep on track, pass, lose weight, all of that whilst being beautiful!
haha
