My introduction

Hello all. I am now to this forum and still learning my way around. It seems there are lots of areas for different discussions and alot of great people.

My story? I got inspired one weekend in September '06. I hit "rock bottom" so to speak. I knew that I had to make changes and I was the only one accountable for my health. Good news is, since then I have lost nearly 40lbs. and am much healthier than I was 6 months ago.

How have I done it? It took me a while to find my groove food wise but I started walking nearly every day. Eventually I realized that it was simply eating fewer calories than I burn in a day. Who wouldda thunk? So, I am eating less fast food and sugar which in itself made a huge difference in how I felt. Now I am human and have a 4 year old so I am not perfect and still will have things here and there but portion control is key.

Today? Since the weather has been so cold I am not walking as much as I was a few weeks ago but I am still trying to do cardio 3-4x a week and lifting some weights and using a fitness ball. It seems to be working pretty well. I can't wait for warmer weather so I can start doing things outside again.

Hello to you all and I am looking forward to reading more in days to come.

Well you're doing great, and it's good that you made the choice to get healthier, not only for yourself, but to be healthier to take care of your child and to be around for them in later years.

You look like you have a strong grip on the reality of weight loss being hard work so you're already past that first step, and this forum will be good for you to ask more advanced question to help you tweak, improve, and mix up your diet and exercise routines so you don't feel bored or restricted.

Welcome!

Welcome :) And I know all to well that "hit rock bottom" feeling! Stick with it and you will change your life for the better! Glad to see you here!

Wow...I am being objectified already. I knew I would like it here.

Thanks for the welcome everyone.

Well i could've said fresh fat - but i thought that'd be nasty lol :D

But really, we're just a sect of secretive vampires here all just itching to suck the fat right out of you :O

lol if only that was the case!

Boy...you are all inspirational. Such big losses. Congratulations.

Wishes...LOL Fresh meat was definitely a better choice. Fat Vampires huh? Is that the next Anne Rice book?

I have just one word

Woaw! I am very impressed by your website(I know it's your thing but hey!)and I like the way you talk, very down to earth. It makes me believe that I can also do it...How much do you still want to lose? You can really see a difference and you don't seem to need to lose anymore from your face.:)

Eventually I realized that it was simply eating fewer calories than I burn in a day.
Perfect! Not only that, but eat wise calories and you don't even have to feel hungry to lose weight :) Welcome to the boards...

Exactly.... At one point I was trying to get between 2000-2300 cals in and I was forcing myself to eat. It takes alot more food to get there when you are eating healthy than if you run through the McD drive through. I ultimately decided that forcing myself to eat when not hungry was not a good plan either. Eventually I settled in between 1700-2000/day. I am not hungry (do not feel deprived) and still losing about 1# per week. I have always made losing weight so much harder in the past. Trying to "starve" my body into submission and it never works for long.

edit to add: Welcome sandrine and good luck on your journey
