My hopefully not so tragic weight loss diary

I am starting today. However, I am not going to concentration on eating healthy EVERY single day as I'm a student I can't afford to keep buying fruit and veg so I'm just going to try and stick to 3 meals every day and drink lots of water...
which will probably consist of, cereal, porridge, tuna, chicken, pasta, and stir frys with the cheapest stuff in ASDA. LOL if only we could all afford organic food and a personal trainer...

I'm 5 Ft 3 (160cm)
I weigh 9.8 stone (137.2 pounds)
Aiming for 9 stone (126 pounds)
Dreaming of 8.5 stone (119 pounds)
So technically I need to lose 11.2 pounds :)

I'm hoping to get that within 4 weeks for a certain festival AND my birthday!

Good luck to me :)

Today:
Breakfast: Porridge
Lunch: Pasta
Dinner: Pasta
Drinks: Lemonade (fail), 3 cups of herbal tea, 3 glasses of water)
Exercise: Zilch

(I had to eat the pasta otherwise it would have gone off). I resisted going to the shop and buying biscuits and energy drinks :|

Hi there girl. Welcome to the forum and the diary pages.

Well i know what it is to be that pooor however, are you really only eating plain pasta iwht not a smidgin of anything on it to make it taste interesting. What were you eating to get overweight in the first place? Did it cost your less.

I think its pretty risky to eat NO fruit and vegetables at all. You will end up being seriously malnourished. I think porridge and pasta are good for you but you need to find some money to eat some vitamin rich foods. Where are you parents? How come they don't help you? You should cut your budget elsewhere as this really isn't sustainable. If nothing else you will end up rundown and sick.

Its also unrealistic to try to lose 11 pounds in such a short period of time. You may achieve it but there is a good chance of piling it all back on and more shortly afterwards when you relax about your diet.

Please chooose a healthy sustainable path for weight loss and have a little patience. See if you can afford biscuits and energy drinks, then you can afford some fruit and veg. Buy the cheapest things that are in season. You can make anything taste good when you know how.

See what i do with cabbage! I make a very yummy meal of cabbage and rice. IN fact i have two very yummy recipes. For one you need a box of indian spice mix and for the you need soy sauce. For both you need garlic and some vegetable oil. See my diary for this and other recipe ideas.

Also drink 2 cups of milk a day. I don't care whether its full fat or low fat or skim but drink it or eat it on your food. Its vital for healthy bones that you get enough calcium daily. And the easiest way to get it is from milk. Milk is cheap. You also need vitamin D so get a bit of sunlight onto your skin or eat some fish oil or other vitamin D rich foods.

YOu also need some vitamin B. You had better look up teh function of vitamins and minerals and while you are at it, look up about the function of hte macro nutrients too - protein, carbs and fats.

Good cheap sources of protein is baked beans, lentils, chickpeas. Even whole grain breads have protein. You need protein to avoid muscle loss when on a diet.

Try to walk at least 30 mins a day.

Thanks for your welcome :)

Well, for months I was strict on what I eat - junk food, crisps etc and now I've just been eating them like the plague - thinking I wouldn't gain cos I was happy in the body I was in cos people had told me I've lost weight! So I thought it'd be fine (stupid thinking). I've also been binge drinking every weekend since I lost my job at working at a night club where I'd be working every weekend so I didn't drink. Not to mention the amount of fast foods I've been eating on my hangover! But now I need to be careful on what I'm spending so I'm stopping the take aways and the ridiculous amounts of nights out.

My mum helps me but I live in a City where accommodation is dearer where my university is placed and the food is a lot more expensive and she's a single Mum who has my little brother to vend for too. So I'm stuck to supermarket brands.

I have been drinking lots of energy drinks cos it's exam period and I am useless and I can only concentrate at night. After this week, they'll be over and I can take this weight loss seriously :)

I'm going to take a look at your recipes :) thank you!

I agree fruit and veg can be expensive. I'm also a student (although I'm in a better financial situation than a lot of students, I'm not exactly rolling in cash), and for awhile I used to shop at Asda. Their fruit and veg doesn't usually last very long and sometimes leaves a lot to be desired, so I can understand wanting to buy it. Have you considered looking at their frozen stuff? I buy frozen berries (from Tesco, admittedly) which are very low calorie and much cheaper than fresh. You can just bung it in a covered container and microwave it. A lot of it is very cheap, and can also be used as a cheap supplement to healthy meals. (It's not so cheap when you consider the kinds of ready meals Asda sell, I know, but those are pretty bloody bad for you)

Edit. I originally had posted here links to the frozen fruit and veg in Asda, but their website isn't letting me link it across. Go to Asda's website, go to the frozen section, hit "frozen desserts and fruit", under "shelves" select "fruit". That's what frozen fruit they have. Then go back to "frozen", and hit "frozen vegetables and rice". Not everything in the frozen vegetables and rice section is good for you, but that's the kind of selection you'll be looking at.

Alternately, some canned stuff can be ok- though watch the salt content in veg and sugar content in friut.
