Hi All! I just found this site about an hour ago. It looks really interesting; I'm looking forward to looking through it more tomorrow. I wonder, is there a separate section for "before and after" photos of people who've lost weight? I find seeing those kinds of things very motivating, but it's hard to find a good collection of authentic success stories on the net. Would love your input or suggestions! Thanks!

Wow. 2 replies so soon! That's great! :) It's nice to meet you!

Here's (more than) a little about me and my weightloss journey:

I'm currently 19 years old and have struggled with my weight since I was about 11. I've tried lots of different diets, but I have poor will power and I am an emotional eater so my "diets" seemed never to last more than a month. Needless to say, I only gained weight and the endless amounts of self-dislike that came with it.

About 3 months ago I peaked at 182 pounds on a 5'9" frame. I hated it, so I slept my days away so I wouldn't have to acknowledge it.

Finally I realized that my 20th birthday was coming up this year. All i could think was "I DON'T WANT TO SPEND MY 20s OVERWEIGHT!" What if I grew into my older years never knowing what it was like to be young and fit? Never knowing how different life would be without this extra 50-60 pounds? I couldn't bear the thought. I knew I had to do something to change my lifestyle, not just my eating habits.

So I started slow: For the first 2 weeks, I started walking in the park with my mother. I made no change in my eating habits.

Then i incorporated my homemade Diet Journal. Which has been my saving grace. I write down everything I eat, even now. This is probably the most helpful tool in my weightloss. Once I stopped telling myself, "I don't have time" or "It's such a hassle" and made myself do it I finally came face to face with what I was eating and how much. I never realized how unhealthy i was!

Then I started limiting my calories...and my willpower proportionatly started fading. I was desperate to find a way to solve this problem, and finally I did:
Healthy Choice,Smart One's, and weight watchers frozen meals and desserts. I feel like I'm eating out almost every meal! And they're so convenient in my hectic college/work/social schedule! Since I started eating these, I've found it so much easier to remain under 1300 cals/day and feel like I'm eating everything I want to! I lost 10 pounds in 2 weeks after I started eating this way! That's NEVER happened to me without feeling extrememly deprived.

The next step was a nutritionist, who warned me about the sodium levels of frozen meals and suggested potassium supplements to counter-balance the salt along with a much increased water consumption. She agreed to see me every 4 weeks to make sure I stay on track.

And finally, my gym membership and a personal trainer, Roshiki. He's absolutely wonderful: VERY supportive and motivating. When I first met him I thought, "He's got the most unbelievable biceps!" Then he showed me a picture of him 100 pounds of fat heavier! He said, "This is what a healthy diet and excersize will do for you. You don't need pills, crash diets, or patches. You just need you and a positive "never-give-up" attitude." Since meeting him, I've been sore in muscles I never knew existed and pushed farther than I ever would've pushed myself alone. I LOVE IT.

It's been 55 days since I started my diet journal. And 15 pounds of weightloss. This was encouraging, but I really realized I was making a change when I allowed myself a 2 week break from the planned snacks and such to get through my final exams, and still maintained my weight! I'm just now starting back into my routine since finals are over. And I'm so happy to know I don't have to recover lost ground! I feel like I'm finally succeeding in this! Slowly, but surely.

Where can I find out more about you guys?

Sarah
