My freshman 15

Well yesterday went decently well...

I ran - good
I had a good lunch - good
I had an okay dinner - decent
I snacked around midnight - bad

The good outweighs the bad, so I guess that's a start.

I weighed myself this morning....140.6, so basically I'm saying that I'm at 140 and I have 10 pounds to lose before June 13th.

Ate lunch a little bit ago...I had a salad with some very hard (microwaved) chicken breast slices and 2 pieces of peanut butter and jelly toast. It was yummy, but I can tell that my stomach has expanded since college because t didn't fill me up AT ALL. Boo.

Now I'm just giving myself some time before I go on my run.

I really need to start getting up earlier, but I keep waking up at 11:30, and then eating lunch at like 12:00 or 12:30. No breakfast at all. I know that's not good for me.

So today I ran earlier, around 1, and it was hot. Around 80 degrees, which is not something I'm used to yet. Maybe I should start pushing my running time back to the evening when it's cooler?

I had a sandwich and a package of strawberry oatmeal for lunch. The sandwich had chicken, ham, onions, and honey mustard, and it was the first time I think ever that I used rye bread. It was okay. Nothing to rave about.

I might be working tonight, and I am not allowing myself to eat ANYTHING there. Not even 1 crouton.

Water is tasting magnificent right now. I haven't gotten a pop in weeks!

Hey there. I was just reading over your past posts and wondering how you're doing now.

I wanted to comment on one thing that I noticed in your past meal lists. With every meal you're eating a lot of starch. I think one meal I noticed said you had corn, potatoes, and pasta salad; that's a huge amount of carby calories, and not much of a veggie nature there. Also I noticed with lunch that you seeming always have chips and cookie. If you're getting your cookies from the cafeteria I'm almost willing to bet they're the big ones and those cookies can have 500 calories each in them.

I suspect you're eating a LOT of calories in a fairly small amount of food, just by making not so great choices. It's pretty common I think, so I don't think you should feel bad about it. Just maybe be more aware of what you're eating.

1 piece of peanut butter toast on whole wheat is a good snack. 2 pieces with pb and jelly .. not so good. Also are you measuring your pb or just putting it on? that can make a difference too.

It's tough, I know, especially when you're not used to really thinking about your food that much. :)

I definitely was eating a lot of carbs. College makes it tough for me to get a lot of veggies in, but now that I'm home I have been eating a salad with almost every meal, and once my mom goes to the store I'm going to have bell peppers, banana peppers, salad greens, cucumbers, carrots, and green beans.

So hopefully if I do have a carby main dish for a meal, I can also have a lot of veggies as sides.

Well hello again...

I bring good news...I did well today! Woo!

Breakfast - Blueberry bagel with lowfat cream cheese
Lunch - Sandwich (whole wheat bread, colby cheese, light mayo, banana peppers, onions, and spinach leaves) and a banana
Snack - 6 veggie Ritz crackers with slices of pepper-jack cheese
Dinner - Leftover pasta (whole wheat penne, arrabiatta sauce, spinach, mushrooms, and sliced grilled chicken), salad with cucumbers, banana peppers, and Italian dressing, and 4 sliced up strawberries with a little bit of splenda sprinkled on top.

I went running tonight and definitely ran at a faster pace than when I do during the day, so it looks like this is going to be a permanent change. I also ran probably 3/4 of a mile more than usual. :)

And I'm even more excited because I get to see my boyfriend tomorrow! :)

Okay, well I've doing well for the most part, but my weight isn't reflecting my efforts at this point. Annoying! But I know better than to get down about it.

So let's see, today. Well, my boyfriend stayed here last night, and he wasn't feeling the lunch options I was giving him, so we ended up at Wendy's. I got 2 spicy chicken snack wrap things, and I had about half of a yogurt thing. That all together is around eh, 700 calories. Yikes. But I didn't snack at all today, and I ran around 4 miles (40 minutes) before dinner. For dinner I had 1 chicken enchilada that my mom made, some crackers with pepper jack cheese, and a side salad. This isn't terrible, but I think I need to step it up another notch, and maybe then I will see scale results.

So I plan on going to bed early. Maybe even when I'm done with this post, which would make this my earliest bed time since God knows when. haha Then, I want to wake up early and have a bowl of multi-grain cheerios for breakfast. After that, who knows, but my big goal is to actually have a breakfast.

Oh my goodness...

144 after this weekend!!! What on EARTH?!?!

Blah. I can't believe I gained that much weight. No, actually, I can. I ate basically everything under the sun, and I didn't run at all. Not one day. What am I doing?!

There is good news, however. Tonight...I cooked my own dinner!! 2nd time in history. I made penne pasta with presto traditional sauce, and added red peppers, onions, mushrooms, and sliced chicken that I baked. I'm so proud of myself. I even added salt, pepper, garlic salt, and roasted red peppers, and it tastes sooo good. Maybe that's because I made it?

Any way...back on track tomorrow. I've got a lot of back tracking to do. I'll probably have to set new goals tomorrow, once I get my official weight, but I leave for South Carolina in exactly 1 month. Oh noooo!

Oooh ... that sounds really yummy. Good for you!

My dinner tonight was super boring - eggs and toast. But I'm not all that hungry. I knew I needed to eat something though, so there you have it. :)

That reminds me that there was a period of time when I was younger that I went through a cereal phase. My dinner consisted of nothing but cereal for probably a week! I was a weird kid. :)

I weighed myself this morning and I'm at 141, which is waaay better than what I expected, as you may be able to tell from my last post.

Regardless, today I am tackling this thing hard. I had a piece of peanut butter and jelly toast on whole wheat bread for breakfast, and for lunch I fixed a bowl of leftover pasta. I was still hungry though, so I grabbed the bag of carrots, poured some fat free ranch on a plate and snacked away. My feelings are that I can eat as many carrots as I want. Is this a safe assumption?

Dinner is a mystery at this point.

I'll be posting later on dinner and my workout.

I cooked my own dinner again tonight! I grilled 5 chicken tenderloins, sauteed green bell peppers and onion, and topped my 2 fajitas with some cheese and salsa (sour cream substitute). Oh my gooosh! I ate them slowly too, so that I could enjoy them more and drank a lot of water in between bites. Now I'm full, and I feel good!

I'm starting to like this cooking thing. :)

Now I just need to wait and go running for the perfect cap on the day.

Heh. I'm glad you're liking cooking. I really do love to cook. It's fun to make things that taste good and are healthy.

One thing - well maybe two:
for lunch I fixed a bowl of leftover pasta. I was still hungry though, so I grabbed the bag of carrots, poured some fat free ranch on a plate and snacked away. My feelings are that I can eat as many carrots as I want. Is this a safe assumption?
I suspect the reason you were still hungry is that pasta is mostly carbs. You need to add some protein to that to keep yourself feeling full. Eating carbs is going to make you feel hungrier sooner. The same pasta with a chopped chicken breast or some shrimp or something like that will solve the hunger issue.

And unfortunately you CAN'T eat as many carrots as you want. ;) Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Carrots have probably the highest calorie count of any veggie - because they have so much sugar in them. A single serving of carrots (about 1 cup) is 50 cals. It's really really easy (at least for me) to eat 2 or 3 cups of carrots at a sitting, just mindlessly munching down on them. And while 150 or 160 cals isn't a huge amount, it can be enough to stall out weight loss.

Ok, but that said, carrots are a much healthier choice than some other options, so don't feel bad about it. Better too many carrots than a bag of chips. :)

The pasta actually did have chicken slices in it, but I just made one average size bowl of it with no sides in addition. I think that probably killed me.

And the carrot news isn't terrible. I like carrots but don't love them, and I doubt I have ever eaten more than 2 cups at any one sitting. I prefer peppers! Yum. :)

Bad news...I can't find my ipod. AHHH! No ipod has proven to be devastating for my runs in the past.

No worries...I found the ipod, and it served me well. :)

I ran my typical 4 miles, but I had killer cramps practically the whole time. That slowed my pace down a bit.

Now Im just relaxing with my mom, watching the basketball game. Go Cavs!!

Woke up this morning at 139.6! :)

I have to work though, so this is just going to be a quick post. I had a blueberry bagel and low-fat strawberry cream cheese for breakfast and a chicken fajita for lunch. I'm going to be sure and have lots of veggies for dinner because I'm lacking them as of right now. Cucumbers, carrots and peppers, oh my! :)

My run was TERRIBLE. Because I have to work at 6, I had to run during the hottest part of the day. I felt like a slug, and I don't think I even ran half of my normal course. I'm happy that I got a run in at all though because I didn't think I had to work tonight and was planning on running later.

Alright well shower then off to work.
