My Fitness Story

Hello all! Here's my recent fitness story:

Always involved in sports from a young age, I've never been one to neglect fitness, even in a place as remote as the approximately 1,000-person village where I lived and worked for two years as a Peace Corps volunteer. During this time, I decided to make the best of my surroundings and, rather than going to the gym, would regularly do general exercises that required no equipment or weights. I asked other volunteers about their fitness routines and found that some used a deck of playing cards to mix up their workout. They would first write down on a sheet of paper the cards: ace, two, three, etc; next, they would write an exercise next to each card: abs, push-ups, lunges, etc.; finally, they would shuffle the cards and complete the workout in random order. They called this workout "The Deck".

I really liked the idea of The Deck and incorporated it into my own workout, using my favorite exercises. I did The Deck on a regular basis and became a big proponent, introducing the workout to other friends including my twin brother, Jeff, who visited me during my service. After his visit to Bolivia, Jeff found out about a deck of exercise cards complete with images and instructions for each exercise. The exercises required no weights or special equipment and thus were perfect for myself and others who didn't have regular access to a gym. Jeff mailed the product to me in Bolivia and I immediately began using it and incorporating it into my current workout.

I took time off from my busy Peace Corps schedule during the holidays to visit family and friends. While home in January, 2006, I introduced the product to my friend, Joel. A year later I was again visiting for the holidays. By this time, Joel had purchased FitDeck, finding that it was a good fit for his work-travel lifestyle. When Joel and I met we discussed the possibility of taking the card concept and putting it on mobile devices; thus, xFit was born, allowing people to put fitness on their mobile devices and exercise anywhere, any time.

xFit is my current workout of choice although I still go to the gym, play basketball, snowboard, mountain bike, etc.
