I tried to find anything that said ephedrine caused mitral valve prolapse in anyone. I couldn't. I did repeatedly find that someone that has mitral valve prolapse should not take ephedrine.
I even found one website that said this: "Researches and studies have also revealed that products containing ephedrine is also beneficial in treating mitral valve prolapse."
This illustrates the point to consider the source, including an unscientific weight loss forum post, when deciding what information to consider.
It is possible, however, that the ephedrine was a contributing cause of the Valve prolapse.
But what about your Sketcher's Shape-Up shoes? My heart is still ticking.![]()
I'd like to chime in here if no one minds. For more than a decade I was using all sorts of ephedrine based products for weight loss, including metabolife. I know I'm not going to change anyone's mind here, but I wanted to get my little opinion out there too as a former ephedrine user.
I'm trying to lose weight without the aid of anything but willpower for the first time in my life. And it's pretty scary.
Yes, ephedrine curbed my hunger. But now I have to do the same thing on my own. To be honest, now that I've pretty much managed it for more than a month on my own, I'm even more proud of myself than I was when I was taking a pill for help.
OK, so I don't actually eat as well as I should yet, but I'm learning. And I have managed to get to the gym six days a week for the last six weeks.
I won't risk gaining all my weight back once I stop taking an appetite suppressant. I'm struggling with the hunger part now, instead of masking it and having to deal with it later. I won't get to my goal then have to struggle with maintaining it when my pills are gone. Instead I'm overcoming the hurdles on my own as I go.
I won't say that this is better, because everyone is different, but I will say that it is better for me.
But what about your Sketcher's Shape-Up shoes?
so if i had crack before it was illegal, i can still take it?
Don't think so. It's still illegal. I know people have come on here and tried to push using asthma medicine for it.
You lost your weight by changing your lifestyle. The pill had nothing to do with it. I applaud you chaning how you eat and exercise but i won't praise taking that crap.
I bet you reduced your calorie intake didn't you?
I bet you started exercise more and move around more huh huh?
Guess what? You would have lost weight without putting your heart and future at risk. It worked for you..I'm glad but I hope that your future health is ok.
For everyone else who comes to the forum, don't take these pills. You don't need them for weight loss and the medical documentation shows the risk is was too much.
Sorry, but I hate seeing people come here saying 'I took Ephedrine and lost weight' when the reality is, you changed your diet. You changed your exercise. You did the right things and the pill was not the reason.
Jerico you are absolutely incorrect. I took ephedrine everyday for 9 years. I was the healthiest I'd ever been in my life. It curbed my appetite, helped me shed fat, build muscle and stay out of the doctors office. Either your a plant from the government or you're actually a real troll. You're making statements that are incorrect; truth mixed with slight deception equals incorrect statements.ok that I am going to dispute. If ephedrine caused weight loss by itself, then you are saying that you could change nothing in your diet and you will lose weight.
That's not the case. The instructions with your pills say you have to change your diet and exercise. This is the bigger part of my complant. You feel that because you lost weight while reducing calories and taking the pill. Instead of saying you lost it cause of reducing calories (science), you say it's cause you took the pill.
that logic fits to the idea that I lose weight just following this forum cause I lost weight since joining instead of the science of reducing calories.
One doesn't mean that is the factor. Now, studies do say that combined with caffine, it has shown weight loss (1-12 month study), but it also shows dangerous side effects.
Just wondering why you rather hold the pill up as the reason than the reduction in calories? Why not just eat a tapeworm or such then?
Sarcasm noted and ignored.
I stated it could be possible. That is opinion. Let's look a little more at fact.
Yes, it doesn't state that ephedrine causes it. Chances are more likely is that the ephedrine caused what was once there but undetected to get worse. That is the more likely case. This still does not lessen the danger of this drug.
Is it the death pill some made it out to be? No.
Do we tend to support people taking pills to lose weight? Hell no.
In the interest in keeping this thread from becoming personal bashing, let's look at the facts only.
1) We know that ephedrine can be quite harmful. Medical studies has proven that. Those studies do focus on having either pre-existing conditions or misuse.
2) the purchase of ephedrine as a weight loss product is not allowed in the United States.
3) It is generally accepted on this forum that pills are not the answer and we tend to aggressively dispute that fact.
4) The usage of any drug like this should be monitored by a doctor as well as a full physical before hand.
