My Diary: Hope4Loss

Hi! I posted this in the 150’s club, but no one replied and it looks like that thread is not very active. So, posting here for support:

Hey everyone. It’s been a few years since I was on this site, but time for me to return! I weigh more than I ever have in my life. I am 5’3” and just weighed in at 156.5. Two years ago I was diagnosed with a mild heart condition and Hashimoto’s Disease. Right after all this got sorted out I became pregnant and delivered a healthy baby boy. I am so happy to have him, but breastfed and justified overeating as “I’m breastfeeding, so my body needs it.” While it’s true you do need some extra food, I was overeating. So, here I am! A healthy weight for me both physically and psychologically would be in the range of 120-135. I am 20 pounds over the highest limit.

I just returned from a trip to China and South Korea, where I was for 2 weeks. The fat shaming there is intense. But the good news about that is it helped to motivate me to get healthy. I am hoping really to lose weight for my health. I want to be a healthy mom and live a long time to be there for my son. I am also wanting to lose weight to boost my self-confidence. Also, I want to look good for my husband and friends. Vanity is a part of it, but it is a definite health concern.

In the past I found this forum very supportive and helpful, so I’m hoping to recapture some of the great motivation I found here. One of the most helpful aspects was these clubs! It’s a great idea to break down goals into 10 lb. increments and get support along the way. It’s been YEARS (a decade?) since I’ve been in the 130’s, but I am hoping this is the year I can do it.

I know I have to start slow/ramp up with the exercise, but am hoping to not go too slow and take advantage of my wave of motivation. I’m giving myself 3 weeks as my first benchmark. I want to do a real, solid checking in on my progress at that time. Of course I’ll check in a lot between now and then, but 3 weeks is my first milepost.

That’s all for now - excited to be back and to get and give support!

Posting again just because I’m starting something new (eating healthy, exercising, working on weight loss goals), and so I need to get this energy out! Yesterday I went running for 45 minutes, today I didn’t want to work out so decided to walk to work (1.25 hours) instead. Since I don’t have my car now, I’m thinking I’ll have to get back on my own power as well!

It’s easy to stay motivated for a day...then want to take it easy or slide right back into the old behaviors. I am craving dessert, for instance. Trying to stay strong....!

Hi, Hope4Loss & welcome back to the forum. The diary section is fairly active & has a lovely mix of friendly & supportive people.
It is hard to maintain motivation, but it is very much worth it. Be strong & determined, but not in too much of a rush. You can do this! :)

Great article! I'm wondering if you add any type of special herbs and spices to your daily foods? Have you ever tried the right spices and herbs?

Hey guys,
Just saying hello again. Tomorrow will be one full week of conscious eating. My goal has been to eat 1300 calories per day, because that is what worked before. I have been only managing around 1500-1600, and that has been SUPER difficult! Given how difficult that has been, I can't even imagine how many calories (lots more) I was eating before I started these efforts! Wish me luck on my first weigh-in...I don't expect to see miracles, but hopefully a little movement on the scale.

Hey Guys!! I have been on my diet and exercise plan for 7 days/one week now, and I have lost 2 pounds. Maybe this will work! It's only 2 pounds and only one week, so I'm not sure yet. Let's keep at it...and we'll see....!

Hey Everyone....
I am getting into a groove with what I think is a lot fewer calories per day then I used to eat - I think maybe even 1000 fewer calories. I wasn't counting before, but I was eating and drinking whatever I felt like. Now, I am counting and ending up around 1400-1500 each day. The problem is, I've been at this about ten days and have only lost 2 pounds. Because I've also been exercising, I'm surprised that my loss hasn't been bigger. That being said, I do seem to vaguely recall (from past weight loss efforts and successes) that weight loss happens in fits and starts. I hope my memory is correct. But really, I just want to enter a state of ketosis and torch that fat! I do think I am being very disciplined, and have found extra motivation thinking that if I can lose the 30 pounds of excess weight I am carrying, I will live longer and be healthier for my son. It's no longer just about vanity anymore...

Also, took my measurements today so I really have some more data. Looking forward to noting where the inches come off first...

Wish me luck in sticking with all of this - it's been years since I've tried like this....

Hi Hope! After having been inactive for a while exercise will cause your muscles to hold on to more water until they get used to the extra work, which usually takes a couple of weeks (the card my brain throws up says around 6 but I´m too lazy to check). That water is probably balancing out the fat you´re losing on the scale right now and preventing you from seeing more of a loss. Trust the process. Give it some time. Since that amount of water in your muscles isn´t likely to go up any further the loss of fat should start to outweigh the extra water in a week or so. Then in a couple more weeks, if you stay on track like you have been, you´ll suddenly dump a couple more pounds than you´re expecting because the water´s going.

Hey Everyone! I am back! I weighed myself today and am 150.6, which is 5 pounds less than i was at the end of October. Not very quick, but still a loss. I’ve had a cold and am still stuffed up but otherwise better. Want to get back to the gym after taking time off to heal....

Hi Hope and welcome back! A 5 pound loss between the end of October and early January is about 10 pounds better than your average citizen so well done!

Hey guys! I weighed in at 138.5 today! Maybe this is possible...?! My first goal was to get to 136. Hopefully I can get there in 3 weeks. I know that seems like a while, but my weight loss pattern has not been linear (is anyone’s?).mine looks more like the “staircase” pattern...plus I gain weight at certain points in my cycle, then drop a ton at other point. Hormones...But I think I will solidly be at 136 soon, hopefully. My next goal is 125. That’s as low as I plan to go and would be put squarely in the middle of my BMI. Plus, to be honest, it is a healthy weight for me - I am short. Wish me luck

Best of luck! You're doing really well if you're losing a pound and a half a week on average, staircase or no.
