My attempt to stop yo-yoing

Hi guys, I have decided to start my weight loss journey again for the umpteenth time. I’m 25 and 5ft 4 and at my heaviest I weighed 175lbs (at age 17), at 18 I decided I was sick of being fat and went on an extreme diet eating the bare minimal possible, it was totally unhealthy, but I managed to get down 130lbs in the course of about 3month. I was only able to keep up what was basically a starvation diet for so long and over the course of about 6 months I went back to about 150. Then when I was 20 I planned to go on holiday and did the same starvation diet again and got down to 125lb, after the holiday I yet again gained back most of the weight. I have done this so many time over and over again with my lowest weight being about 120lb. At the moment I’m back up to 158lbs and I’m sick of yo-yoing but I keep repeating the same mistakes over and over again. I just get so desperate to lose the weight quickly that I diet in a totally unattainable manner, which leads to me constantly yo-yo.

This is going to change today; I have to commit to making a lifestyle change for me to be able to stop the cycle. So I’m going to write down what I eat and how much I exercise every day and try to monitor and maintain a realistic change that I will be able to continue with even after I reach my goal weight.

Yesterday I ate

Breakfast: oats with skimmed milk and a banana (I would usually never eat breakfast)

Snack: apple

Lunch: chicken salad sandwich and some pineapple

Dinner: baked potato with tuna and stir-fry

Drinks: mostly water but I do have 3 coffees a day

I dont loose if I dont eat breakfast. I eat low calorie cerals, mostly bran. I also dont lose much weight unless I exersize. I am your same size and it has been awhile since I have been 150 but I am working hard to get there. Wish you luck and I know you can learn how to maintan your wieght in time. When you get my age(65) you wont be able to just stop eating and loose wieght real fast as your body slowes down alot.

Good on you! :D

Thanks

I’m going to try and eat breakfast everyday, which is hard for me because I’m not a morning person, but I find when do eat breakfast I don’t have as many cravings during the day. Your right about exercise speeding up weight loss, I want to increase the amount I do but at the minute I feel too fat to join the gym. Currently the only exercise get is walking my dogs, which I do for about an hour and a half every day. Good luck with your weight loss.

A former yo-yo dieter

I also used to be a yo-yo dieter, including the starvation thing. It got to a point where I once refused to eat three green beans for supper because I was concerned about the calories - ridiculous! I have now been on a "diet" for six months and have lost 89 pounds. I eat no white flour, no sugar, no artificial food (no pre-packaged stuff) everything is from scratch. I look great, feel great, have no more headaches and muscle aches. what a difference it makes to eat real, natural food. I know most people think that they're too busy to make all their own food, but I am a mom of 2 kids under the age of 2 and go to college full time, so if I can find the time, so can everyone else. Best of luck to you with your weight loss, hopefully you find some of my suggestions helpful as well!

Hey there sarah

looks like you're off to a good start, your food looks yummy and well balanced.

I get most of my exercise walking my dog too, I try to add on some lunges and squats and things like that to mix it up a bit.

Hey

You are doing well so far. I started around the same weight as you. I had the same issue before, yo yoing. The biggest things for me were:
-Breakfast
-Lots of water 8-10 glasses
-Balanced diet. (more protein than what i was eating.)
-And not cutting things out, just the amount.
(cutting out white flours, sugars and SODIUM) those are the only things i cut out.
I wish you luck!

Wow 89lbs congratulations, amazing job.

I’m going to try to eat mostly homemade food and less processed food because it’s more filling and better for you, but I haven’t cut all pre-packaged stuff yet because if I tell myself I cant have a certain thing I know I’m just going to want it more.

Thanks, I know I need to incorporate more exercise, but I’m not sure where to start. How many lunges and squats do you do?

Salt is the biggest thing for me, I’ve always done a lot of cooking at home and add salt to everything, its one of the hardest things for me to cut out.
