My 2nd attempt

I started a diary on here at the start of the year and kinda fell off the wagon. My diabetes is out of control again, I spent some time in the hospital with a mild heart attach and I'm finally self aware enough to realize that this is probably my last shot at getting healthy.

I'm ashamed to admit I'm up to 356lbs and I can't even tie my own shoes. I just need to change my life and try my best to be a healthier person.

Hey welcome back,

Sorry to hear about the health issues, but it should give some motivation?

Do you have a plan?

Hi and welcome back.
I looked back over some of your first posts. Every time you go to put something you shouldn't be eating in your mouth just think of your Wife and Kids having to attend your funeral. All the grief they will have to go through because you let food control your life. Think of your kids without a father to be there for them. You can control this. All you have to do is change your eating habits.
If you think I'm being hard on you it's because My husband died last year and I know what kind of grief, pain, and hell they will go through, all the sleepless nights your family will have to endure if you don't do anything to help yourself. Your Kids will wonder 'why didn't dad love me enough to do something to get better'.
If you had one MI you are at a very high risk for another as I'm sure you DR. has told you. Coming here is a good start.
Now I wouldn't be here if I didn't need to lose weight. I find this a good forum to get support and information. When you find yourself want to eat things you shouldn' t just come to this forum and start reading the posts. It has helped me a lot.
All the best to you, Lynn

You can do it, we're all here to help support you. Very wise words from Lynn (Lynn I'm so sorry for your loss xx), she is right , you've got to get your health on track and your kids should really help motivate you.
Best of luck, I really hope thing go great for you from now.

You can do it!

BigLyn10 sorry for your loss and that's exactly what I've been using as motivation right now. I think I need to try to visit this site at least once a day because it has so much great information and awesome people who give you motivating words like the people who posted above this post.

I know how hard it is to lose weight. My highest weight was 242lbs 10yrs ago. I lost 100lbs back then and over the years my weight has crept up to 210lbs. I've lost 36 1/2 lbs so far this year and still have 33 1/2 lbs more to go. I'm 5'4" and almost 54 yrs old.
Keep coming back, reading and posting how you do. We all 'fall off the wagon' at times. I know sometimes I just want to kick myself when I gain weight back. How many times have we all said to our self "why do I let food control me, why can't I just stop stuffing my face"!
Just take each day as it comes and work on small goals at a time. Sometimes thats a lot easier.
Good luck Lynn

Been doing really good with my diet other than when I ate one holiday cookie on Saturday night. Been walking every day on a treadmill I got for free off of craigslist and working out the best I can while keeping my heart rate where the Doctor said to keep it. I feel like I lost some weight but won't know until Jan. 6th when I return to the doctor because our scale at home only goes up to 280lbs.

So went to the doctor and he prescribed me some more meds for my blood sugar. I also started getting some extra exercise by walking on my treadmill for 15 min every hour during the 8 hours I'm working from home.

It's admirable that you're taking such a jump on the physical part of losing weight; I know a lot of people only want to start with dieting (or, on the opposite end of that, only want to start with exercise), and to throw yourself into both of them is a very cool thing.

Best of luck to you.

Been getting a lot of foot and ankle swelling after my walks but I'm still going at it. At least the back pain I'd get during the walk has now almost completely ended. Kinda excited to get on a scale and see if I lost anything

Ok still going at it. Been eating right for the most part (Yes I did cheat a few times but I'm still eating a lot better) and exercising. I've started to go for more walks but I've noticed that about a block or two into my walk I'd start having back pain. The pain stayed for how ever long I'd walk but the second I'd sit down it was gone and it wouldn't start until I'd walk more than just a few steps. This doesn't happen on the treadmill so I'm starting to think my body just has a problem walking up hill.

Congratulations on your decision to get healthy. I have so much compassion for people struggling with diabetes and obesity (I still quaify as obese at 5'4"). It is not all our fault. There has been a paradign shift in the way that food is produced and obesity only began to sky rocket 30 years ago in 1980. There are forces greater than ourselves at work. A good read is "Globesity: A Planet Out of Control".

Love to you and yours.

While I'm recommending books another great one is "The Vice Busting Diet". Its a compassionate realistic 12 week approach - the first week is devoted to just getting your water in. Then week two - eliminate your biggest food vice. She focuses on us eliminating what we are doing wrong BIT BY BIT.

Anyway, keep up the good work.

I decided I needed to try to get out more so I've been walking. I walk to the grocery store, I walk to the park and I even just walk around my neighborhood. The coolest thing is I discovered my phone has an app that keeps track of the distance I walk and how long I walk for. So starting tomorrow I'm posting these to my facebook and twitter to keep me accountable and motivated to be sure I walk everyday.

Well i have to do a lot more walking myself so if you don’t mind i would like to walk with you. How far do you walk a day or for approximately how long? I will match your time or distance and hopefully we can keep each other motivated.

I'm up to 4.5 miles per day right now.

Thought I'd drop in and say Hi, That's pretty good that your up to 4.5 miles a day. I only walk 2 miles a day but it is all up and down hills. I have increased my speed to a much faster pace and maintain that speed even while walking up hill. I an unable to do any running due to my joints but I'm thinking that when I am unable to increase my pace anymore I'll start using some ankle and wrist weights while walking.
Keep up the good work.

I don't do it all at once I do 2 in the morning 2 in the evening and a half at night. Did a little more today because it's the weekend.

Lol ok 4.5 it is ... My Sunday today and i spend it with my husband so i will start with you tomorrow
